                                            Working Demonstrations
                                   Pre-registration requested by April 19, 2019
Members giving working demonstrations do not prepare a talk on the topic. Instead, they select a skill in which they
have considerable experience — one that they can demonstrate for 15 to 30 minutes. They sit at an assigned table
and work, more or less continuously. When an audience member makes an inquiry, the demonstrator describes
what they are doing and continues the conversation as long as the person has an interest. When the onlooker
leaves, the demonstrator continues working until another person makes an inquiry. This type of demonstration is
good for fairs, displays, in shopping centers or at special events.
1. Working demonstrators should bring enough materials to work for approx. 30 minutes. They do not talk continually but
must be able to engage the audience in conversation and answer questions during the demonstration.

                                                                                                                            4

brief 2-3 minute talk on a topic of personal appearance. Example topics are: “How Food
Affects You”, “Standing Tall with Good Posture”, “Proper Way to Brush Your Teeth”, etc.

Interview and self-evaluation with judge -- 40% of score. Each participant will have a
personal interview with the judge, telling how they prepared for the event in the way of
personal grooming – polished shoes, practiced correct posture from walking and sitting,
etc. They may be dressed formal, dressy or casual. They should discuss the occasions the
garments or accessories are appropriate for.

Written Quiz – 30% of score. Each participant will take a written quiz. An oral test will be
read to younger members participating in the event. Questions will be true/false.
(Example: exercise is important to keep your body in good working order; you do not
need to wash your comb and brush regularly; a friendly person likes other people; you
should never say “thank you” for a gift unless you really like it; iron helps build blood)
