THE STRIPPER 2 Looking Forward to 2021! Goodbye 2020! Welcome 2021! I hope that you all had a restful and joyful holiday season. Your Board has been hard at work already planning for this upcoming year. Show Chair Mark Allen has secured a new location for our Regional and National Specialties. If you have not heard, the Harvest Moon Classic will not be able to use the Pleasanton Fairgrounds. Anticipating this change, committee members researched alternate locations. We hope to see many of you at our new location - the Leone Equestrian Center in Sacramento on October 22-24. We are planning to have at least two days of Conformation and three days of Performance Events. Lorie Abbott will be our Show Secretary. In the works so far are Fast Cat, Agility, Barn Hunt, Scent Work, and possibly Trick Dog. The Committee is also looking to add Obedience and Rally. Come join the fun! A sign-up to chair or assist in organizing these three fun-filled days will be along soon! While the Specialties are a huge focus, there is plenty of fun to be had otherwise – check out the calendar below! We will have our missed “holiday auction” on our May 2nd Herding Day – an “auctioneer” is needed! Membership renewal has been extended to March 15th. THE STRIPPER 9 Try Something New! Dock Diving! Article from AKC.org Diving Dogs Will your dog do anything for his favorite toy? Have you watched him fearlessly dive into water – say, in a lake or pool? If so, he might love participating in one of the fastest growing sports, Diving Dogs! Almost any dog can do it, as long as he loves water, knows how to swim, and has a natural passion for retrieving. Diving Dogs is a fun, exciting but easy to do sport with simple rules: You throw your dog’s favorite toy into a pool while he waits on a dock about 40 feet long. On your command, he runs along the dock, flings himself off the end of it, lands in the water and grabs his toy. The goal? To have the longest jump possible, which could be as short as two feet for beginners, but could be as much as 30 feet for those more experienced!
THE STRIPPER 10 No matter how far your dog jumps, you’re guaranteed to have a blast – and you may get a little wet! Diving Dogs is a great activity to share with your best friend! Titles earned through North America Diving Dogs (NADD) will be recognized by The American Kennel Club. To apply, simply complete the Title Application. NADDS events may be held in conjunction with AKC events. For more information about Diving Dogs and getting involved in your local area so your dog can be recognized, please visit NADD. There you can learn more about Diving Dogs events in your area, diving facilities and more! To get started be sure to obtain a registration or listing number for your dog. In order for dogs to receive a title, owners must have a dog number in our records so the titling information can be recorded. See the types of numbers available and which one best fits your situation. • Title Eligibility— o AKC Registration Number -This number is provided to a dog owner via a registration certificate received from the previous owner or via a puppy registration paper given to the new owner by the breeder. o Purebred Alternative Listing Number (PAL) If a dog is purebred but an AKC Registration Number is not possible owners can apply for PAL number. o Foundation Stock Service® (FSS) Number, This number is used for breeds whose status is currently in the foundational stage of being recorded into our registry and requires a copy of the dog’s pedigree. o AKC Canine Partners Number – This number is given to either mixed breed dogs or a purebred. Visit akc.org for more information and links.
