 Congratulations on starting your journey at Algoma University!
We are so excited to have you with us for the Fall 2021 Semester!

 We understand that the first few weeks of university can be
 both exciting and challenging. To help ease this transition, we
  have designed a series of sessions and events to help you
                   start off on the right foot.

  Fall 2021 Orientation will begin MONDAY, AUGUST 30th and
         will conclude on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th!

   To help you stay up to date on what's happening we have
   created a schedule of events that includes all 3 campuses
  (check out a virtual offering at any other campus if you like!)

highlight and showcase wellness resources, supports, programs,
and initiatives within our communities of Brampton, Timmins, and

Description: This session covers basic things that all new students
need to know about courses, the academic calendar, student
portal, and academic supports. We will also spend some time
talking about mindset and the role it plays in students being
successful (hint:it plays a HUGE role!).

Managing Stress @ University

Description: Transitioning to university can be stressful, and it's
important to learn to manage that stress so it does not become
overwhelming. This session will look at the main stressors
experienced by students, general understanding of mental health
and some resources and tools to access.

Timmins Campus Orientation

Description: Being a student is hard, but there are ways to make
yourself more effective and efficient and those are called
learning strategies. This session is completely academic and
discusses what you need to do as a student, and some solid
strategies on how to do it

Description: Queer 101 is an inclusive safe space for open
dialogue and learning virtually through zoom. ALL are
WELCOME. Interested in knowing more about Queer*/Trans*
folks? Then this is the place for you. Build consciousness and
allyship, through education and open dialogue. Join us for an
exploration of privilege, history and what can be done to create
change and develop inclusiveness. A safer space to ask

Brampton Farmers Market

Description: The City of Brampton is celebrating 35 years as the
operator of the Brampton Farmers’ Market! We look forward to
seeing you on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm starting June 19 until

Social Work 1st & 2 Year Student Orientation
When: 1:30 -4:00 pm
Where: During SWRK 1006
Description: The session aims to welcome students to the school
year and give them a sense of academic and professional
expectations, and important policies that guide in the BSW
program. Students will also learn more about how admission to the
BSW program is a 2-step process, and all students must apply to
the Professional Years program which includes years 3 & 4. It is
also an opportunity to meet and network with faculty, staff, and
other students and to learn about existing supports and resources
available for students.

Description: Students in the Professional Years are welcomed to the
final year of the BSW journey as the begintheir field placements.
Students will review professional expectations in the field placement
context, and the roles of the faculty, staff, and director who are a
part of the field education team. Students are introduced to the Field
Education Manual and other key information needed for their field
practicum experience.
