After busy months with examinations and academic activities, the coming big event of the college will be the
Annual Social Function to be carried out in October 2019. Please find the extensive coverage of the activities in
this issue of your college newsletter and mark your calendar. Looking forward to seeing new and old faces in the
function.

Underpaid Mail
Senders have the responsibility to ensure their mail items bear sufficient postage before posting to the College.
Mail items if underpaid are subject to surcharge and hence delay in delivery. The surcharge for local underpaid
mail items is double the deficiency. Underpaid mail items with no return address will be disposed of by the post
office and the College would not collect such mail from the post office or pay for the amount of deficiency. To
avoid unnecessary delivery delay, please ensure that sufficient postage has been paid before posting

For your information, from 1st Jan 2018, postage will be charged by SIZE of the envelope as well as by WEIGHT.
The minimum postage for local mail has already been increased from $1.70 to $2.00.

(3) The Committee for Subspecialty Boards (CSB) has conducted a series of meetings with trainees and fellows
    of our College to collect feedback about paediatric subspecialty development. The meetings were conducted
    as follows:

    1. Open Forum for College Fellows and First Fellows (28th February 2019)
    2. Forum for Chiefs of Service of the paediatric training centres (2nd March 2019)
    3. Meeting for College Fellows involved with the subspecialty accreditation process who did not achieve
       First Fellow status (2nd March 2019)
    4. Open Forum for College Trainees and Young Fellows (25th May 2019)

   In addition, a survey on subspecialty development was conducted by the Young Fellows’ Subcommittee to
   collect the views of College Trainees and Young Fellows.

   Several issues were raised and discussed in the meetings and many Trainees and Fellows gave opinions
   regarding the appropriate pace of subspecialty development, the balance between the reality of subspecialty
   services throughout Hong Kong and the needs of trainees undergoing subspecialty training, and the balance
   between general paediatric training versus subspecialty training.

   The CSB and College Council will further discuss the issues raised in the meetings and survey in a retreat to
   take place in June 2019. Trainees and Fellows are most welcome to continue to provide feedback and
   information regarding paediatric subspecialty accreditation and development via the College Secretariat
   (enquiry@paediatrician.org.hk) to Dr CW Chan, Director of Subspecialty Boards and Dr Simon Lam,
   Honorary Secretary of the CSB.

Dear College members,

We are happy to inform you that the Professional and General Affairs Committee (PGAC) is working with RTHK1
《精靈一點》again this year on the 2nd series of radio interviews with Hong Kong College of Paediatricians 香港
兒科醫學院系列 II to promote Child Health and Education as what we had achieved during the 1st series in 2017.

There will be 17 episodes of live radio interviews, which will introduce to general public the many subspecialty
societies and services. We have much pleasure to update you that 17 subspecialty societies will co-host this series
with our College.

Our President Dr. TSE Wing Yee will kick start this 2nd series with a co-host subspecialty Hong Kong Society for
Adolescent Health at 14:00-15:00 on 4 June 2019. The remaining 16 co-host subspecialties will appear in the
subsequent episodes at the same time slot on the first Tuesday of each month until 6 October 2020. This
programme will be broadcasted live on RTHK1 (radio), which will also be archived in its website
(https://www.rthk.hk/radio/radio1/programme/healthpedia) for later access.

RTHK is working with participating societies on the speakers and topics in the meantime, and our Committee will
update you about the programme details in due course.

Annual Social Function 2019
A Thrilling Day Trip to ‘Zhuhai’ of the Greater Bay Area
via the hundred billion ‘Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge’
粵港澳大灣區、千億港珠澳大橋***珠海一天遊
Our College is pleased to present to our members and their families an enchanting day tour to Zhuhai on 27th
October 2019 (Sunday).

We shall have the opportunity to view the magnificent and reputed HK-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and several
highlights in Zhuhai:
珠海圓明新園 (清廷皇家園林主題公園)、唐家小玲瓏山館 (名人唐紹儀的私家園林)、日月貝
(新地標建築: 貝殼設計大歌劇院)、愛情郵局 (珠海最新地標: 欣賞城市的浪漫)

This fantastic event will assuredly bring a superb outing experience to all participants with much amusements and
precious enlightenments for all ages.

Subsidy is offered by our College according to the following scheme:
 Sponsored:
      Limited to College member and four guests of all ages.
      Adults and children (aged ≥ 12 years): HK$280/head for College member & the first two guests;
          HK$340/head for the third and fourth guests.
      Children (aged 3-11 years): HK$140/head.
      Babies (aged ≤ 2 years): free (still counted and charged as participant by the tour operator).
 Unsponsored guests:
      HK$400 per head.

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis, which is limited by capacity of the coach.
 1st coach can accommodate a maximum of 44 participants.
 A 2nd coach may be arranged if there are another 40-44 participants.

Please complete the Reply Slip (Appendix II) with clear indication of the number of sponsored and unsponsored
participants, and send with your cheque payment to the College. The deadline for registration is 20 September
2019.

The participants must possess valid travel document. Successful registrants will be notified to send in their
personal details to the tour operator directly. 參加者必需持有效旅遊証件 (see Appendix III)
