Selection Policy
We have put a lot of time and thought into creating our teams for 2018. It is incredibly
important that athletes are put into the best team for themselves as individuals, for the
teams and for the program as a whole. There are a number of things we have considered:
- Tumbling Ability
- Stunting Ability
- Commitment Levels
- Availability
- Age
- Previous Experience
This is just to name a few. We have tried to consider friendship groups as much as possible
however it doesn’t always work. If you have not been put into a team with your friend you
are more then welcome to join a group stunt class together!

Within team’s coaches will create stunt groups and assign positions. Coaches will do what is
best for the both individual athletes and the team as a whole. Unfortunately, not everyone
can do the position they want, please respect the coach’s decision.

                                   2018 Head Coach
The search for a new Head Coach is almost complete. More information will be released
very early in the New Year. A gymnastics coach, Meryl, is coming out from America for Term
1 only, she will also be helping out with the tumbling side of Cheerleading while she is here.

                                2018 Welcome Picnic
              st
On Sunday 21 January we will have a picnic at Dee Why Beach for all competitive
gymnasts, competitive cheerleaders and their families. Icon will provide sausages, chicken
wings and sauces. We will also provide plates, serviettes and cutlery. Families are asked to
bring a salad to share, their own drinks, any extra meat they might like to put on the BBQ
and something to sit on. RSVPS are essential, otherwise you will not be catered for. To RSVP
please email:
rosie@icongymsports.com with how many people will be there.
Hopefully we will get to meet our new Head Cheer Coach and Meryl at the picnic, more
information will be released in the New Year.

Commitment and Attendance Policy
Cheerleading is a team sport that requires 100% commitment from all members. The
routine and stunts do not work if even 1 person is missing and we do not have reserves. We
give you as much knowledge as possible in order to enable you to honour this commitment.
All competition, show-off and compulsory dates are given before you sign up. The only date
that are not have confirmed are the Choreography Dates, these will be released in the first 5
weeks of training. Every year we have people ask for exceptions to be made, unfortunately
this is not possible, as soon as we make an exception for one person we have to make an
exception for all. Please understand that this commitment policy is in order to look after the
entire team.

What to do if you’re going to miss a lesson or be late?
Please inform the office as soon as possible. If it is past 2.30pm on the day of training you
must call the office, before this email is fine. If you are missing training for a scheduled
event, you must let us know before the start of Term. If you are sick or something very
important comes up at the last minute, please let us know as soon as possible.

Tardiness to training
Athletes must be at training in the correct attire ready to start on time. If you are going to
be late you must contact the office. Any athlete that is regularly late will be given a warning.
If they continue to be late they will be put on probation. If during this period, they are late
or miss a lesson for an unacceptable reason they may be asked to leave the team. This will
be at the discretion of coaches and management. If this is the case no refunds will be given
for any training fees, registration or competitions.

Acceptable reasons for missing a NON compulsory lesson
- School camp or compulsory school function
- Death of a family member or close friend
- Wedding or similar important family event
- Vomiting or contagious sickness. The office must be notified.

Unacceptable reasons for missing a NON compulsory lesson
- Injury - athletes must be at training watching
- Work - your cheer schedule will not change all year, schedule work around it
- Other Sport Commitments
- School Work - we understand that school is the priority, however you know when
cheer is and you must manage your time.
- Transportation – If you can not get to cheer let us know. We will organise a way for
you to get to the gym. We are a family and we need you at training.
If an athlete misses 2 non compulsory lessons during the year for an unacceptable reason
they will be placed on a 30-day probation. During this time if another lesson is missed for
any reason they may be asked to leave the team. This will be at the discretion of coaches
and management. If this is the case no refunds will be given for any training fees,
registration or competitions.

Commitment and Attendance Policy Page 2
Acceptable reasons to miss a compulsory lesson
- Vomiting or contagious sickness. The office must be notified and a doctor’s
certificate must be provided
- Compulsory school camp. A letter from the school must be provided to say they are
not allowed to miss the camp. If it is close enough athletes are expected to at least come to
some of the compulsory lesson.
- Death or funeral of an immediate family member.
- If an athlete is injured they must still attend training to watch.
If an athlete misses a compulsory lesson for an unacceptable reason they may be asked to
leave the team, their position may be changed or they may not be allowed to compete at
that particular competition. This will be at the discretion of coaches and management. If this
is the case no refunds will be given for any training fees, registration or competitions.

Acceptable reasons to miss a competition
- Vomiting or contagious sickness. The office must be notified and a doctor’s
certificate must be provided
- Death or funeral of an immediate family member.
- If an athlete is injured and unable to compete they must still attend the competition
to support their team mates.

If you already know at the beginning of the year you are unable to attend a competition,
please do not join a team. Cheerleading is a very big commitment in regards to time and
money and it is not fair on the team if everyone is not 100% committed. If something comes
up during the year that stops you from being able to compete in a competition, please
notify Rosie immediately. You will be asked to leave the team and will not be refunded and
training or registration fees.

We understand that we are asking for a lot of commitment and that this may mean
foregoing other things. This is why we are very upfront about our policies. We truly do
believe that cheerleading is worth the commitment. The life lessons you learn, the friends
you make, the fun you have at training and competition is invaluable.

Group Stunt (GS)
Tuesday 5.30 – 6.30pm
Group stunt is a group of 4-5 people that put as many stunts as possible into a 1-minute
routine, this routine is then competed at all competitions. Group stunt is a great way to
increase your stunting skills, stunt at a level that perhaps your tumbling doesn’t allow for
and give you the opportunity to be in a team with your friends. We are very excited that we
have a lot of people interested in Group Stunt for 2018. If you would like to join a group
stunt, please tick so on your enrolment form. Then we will put group stunts together during
the first few weeks of training.

Flyer Class
Wednesday 5-6pm
Thursday 5.30 – 6.30pm
It is compulsory for all flyers to take 1 flyer stretch class however anyone is welcome to do a
flyer class. Flyers are welcome to do 2 flyer stretch classes at no extra cost. During this class
flyers work on their flexibility, their lines, their form and twisting.

Tumbling Classes
In 2018 no-one will have to do compulsory tumble classes. We have lined the schedule up
so that all cheerleading classes include a tumble class at some point. We hope that this will
make it easier for everyone to do tumbling and will improve the quality of our tumble
classes.

All cheerleaders are welcome to pick up a tumble class or book into private tumbling
lessons. Please speak with us about the cost of this, because of our sliding scale the more
hours you do at Icon the less you pay per hour, so if you do want to pick up tumbling the
cost will be minimal.

To progress to a tumble class you must be able to do all tumble skills in the level below.

                                  Sunday 25th November

On the day of sending this out I have found out the Battle of the Beaches is under new
ownership. If anything changes for the event, I will let you know ASAP!

At each competition athletes will only compete once. However, we do not know days or
times until closer to the date. For this reason, you will need to keep the entire weekend /
day free. As soon as we have more information we will let you know.

If teams are interested in entering more competitions, we are happy for them to do this. We
will ask the team about certain competitions and inform them of the price. If everyone
agrees then they will do the competition if not, they will not do it.

At every competition we request teams stay to watch at least one other team. This is
compulsory. The difference it makes having an entire team of Icon family members cheering
you on when you do your routine is incredible!

At Nationals everyone is required to watch every other team. You will need to arrive 10
minutes before they compete and may leave immediately afterwards.

                                        Show Offs
Before the first competition we will hold ‘show offs’ these are a chance for the athletes to
perform their routines in front of a crowd as a practice. Show offs are compulsory and the
week beforehand is compulsory.
Show Off Date and Time: Friday 3rd August 6.30 – 8.30pm
We will not hold a show-off before National in 2018 as it is so close to the Battle at the
Beaches date.

Choreography Dates
During training teams will be taught their stunt sequences and pyramids. Formations and
dance will be taught at compulsory choreography days. Choreography days will be held in
the gym.

In 2018 Icon will most likely be getting a specialised choreographer in to do the routines,
this will depend on who the head coach is. The cost of these choreography days is included
in your registration fee.

These dates and times are only PROPOSED. More information and exact days and times will
be released in the first 5 weeks of training. If this dates / times do not work for you, please
let us know ASAP as if we know early enough we will be able to work around your requests.

application form with Ezidebit. This must be done before your first lesson in 2018.

In 2018 training fees will be debited on the 1st of each month. The first payment will be
made on the 1st February with the final payment being made on the 1st November. To
cancel your direct debit during the trial period (before 16th March) we must be given at least

membership at Icon you will not receive a refund for any registration fees.

At Icon we operate under a very clear sliding scale. The more hours you train with us the
cheaper your hourly rate becomes. On the next page you will find the cost per month (over
10 months) for a common combination of classes. On the page after that you will find a
copy of our sliding scale for your reference.

All competitive cheerleading fees are worked out based on 40 weeks of training, 1 X 11week
term, 2 10 week terms and 1 9week term. If there is a public holiday a makeup lesson will be
organised.

all parents know what is happening. This is also a great chance for parents to meet the team
