What is Impact
                   The Impact21 Employment program is a one-of-

a-kind 24 month work readiness and personal

growth program for adults with Down

                   syndrome/intellectual disability aged from 22

years of age. Through Impact21, students will

gain a customised role in a national company

earning award wage. They will have opportunities

to increase social and civic inclusion,

greater independence, and grow in their work

                   skills.

Impact21 focuses on work readiness in a way

that helps the individual "step into" the best and

most professional version of themselves, by

nurturing and challenging growth in every area of

their lives. Impact21 is holistic in nature; aiming

to fill gaps that have been created through time

                   passed since leaving school, limited

opportunities at school and work, social barriers,

                   and limited expectations.

We believe in learning by doing, experiencing

real-life work through hands-on practice at uni

and real work experience in real workplaces.

Impact21 has taken its knowledge of intellectual

disability and learning, and found what works to

get young people with intellectual disability

ready for work. Impact21 aims to provide

authentic and applied learning opportunities for

all students, with work, through work, at work.

                   Students will attend Torrens University's

Flinders Street Campus in Melbourne's CBD.

They'll experience commuting in the hustle and

bustle of the city, grab a coffee, have lunch with

friends, and live life as a professional adult!

Who is involved in Impact 21?
The Impact21 program is delivered by highly qualified staff, including program

facilitator, work coaches, speech pathologist, specialist fitness and nutrition
educators, all operating with students on a 1:1 through to 1:3 ratio. This
high level of support enables meaningful growth and development through the

program.

Employer Partners
Throughout the program, Impact21 students regularly engage with
our employer partners, who are some of the biggest corporate names in

Australia. These employers have committed to working with Impact21 to create an
inclusive working environment, and to support Impact21 students as potential future
employees.

Program Delivery Partners
Impact21 works in partnership with a values-aligned DES partner, CVGT. They provide job

coaches trained in Impact21's methodology, supporting students whenever they are
working in employer partner workplaces.

                                              Rainer Stefani, Impact21 Graduate,
                                              completed a successful internship with
Sodexo in 2019, and is now employed.

What does the journey look like in 2021-2022?
Year 1 – Skill Development
The Skill Development year is delivered at Torrens University three days per week, on

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, over three trimesters.

Throughout the program, participants will:
have exposure to different types of employment and employers
learn how to be a professional adult at work
gain a broad range of skills to prepare for work

   practise working
grow and operate as an independent individual and as part of a team
engage in fitness classes for improved energy, endurance and mobility
grow in their understandings of good nutrition and food as energy for work

participate in regular 1:1 Speech Pathology therapy sessions (where required), to
   improve language and communication skills

The program is individually tailored to each participant, to support their optimal

learning and development.

Students will have frequent engagement with employer partners throughout Year 1.
This helps participants to:
have regular exposure to different workplaces and industries
explore a range of tasks in these workplaces
develop a broader understanding of tasks and roles
develop physical and mental stamina through doing work at a gently increasing
   pace

Employer visits increase in length of time during Year 1, in preparation for employment

in Year 2. These visits are:

Workplace Orientation | Task Tasters | Job Tasters | Internship

Employer partners then work with Impact21 to help match the right participant for their
business. At the end of Year 1, participants have completed the Skills Development
Year, and are now Impact21 graduates.

                                                                                     PAGE | 03

Year 2 – Employment and Alumni

In Year 2, Impact21 participants move into the second phase of the program, the
Employment and Alumni year.

Participants will have signed an employment contract with their employer and be
working for a minimum of 15 hours per week. The role will be customised to

participant strengths and will be able to be expanded to develop more skills. The
vision with our team, the new employee, and the employer is that there is always room

to grow and develop.

Participants will receive on the job support by a CVGT Job Coach. This job support will
incrementally decrease over time, as employees and employers build skills and

confidence, and feel comfortable and capable in the workplace.

Also, the Impact21 Alumni sessions commence in Year 2. Participants are required to
attend a weekly Alumni class on Fridays. These classes may be in person at Torrens

University, online via video conferencing software, or a combination.

Alumni classes provide participants with the opportunity to:
   further develop skills
   problem-solve work concerns
celebrate and share achievements and learnings from the workplace
stay connected to fellow participants in a professional network
be supported by the Impact21 team as they grow as professionals.

There are also opportunities for participants to become mentors for future Impact21
participants.

                            Genevieve Rufus, Impact21
                            Graduate, completed a
                            successful internship with
                            Sodexo in 2019.

Our Partners - a codesigned approach

These are the employer partners who Impact21 worked with in 2019-2020, and who

are now the proud employers of the first students to graduate from Impact21. There

will be more employer partners as the program grows.

Torrens University Australia and CVGT Australia are our program delivery partners.

Students attend Torrens University's Flinders Street Campus, and the Impact21

team is supported by Educational academic researchers and experts in inclusive

education. CVGT is a Disability Employment Service, and their coaches are aligned

and trained in our values and approach. CVGT provide job coaches for work

experience and internships in partner workplaces, and then provide ongoing

support on-the-job in employment.

                                  you.
You and your young people have a wealth of experience in navigating, celebrating,

and problem- solving their worlds; their passions, barriers, skills, challenges, and

ambitions. We work collaboratively to understand their needs and overcome

barriers to success as a team. We regularly seek parent/key support person

contributions to the running of the program in overarching and specific ways at

regular intervals throughout the year.

                                                                                PAGE | 05

A holistic approach to growth

Every person is different; everyone has different work experience, different skills,

different passions and dreams. This means that each Impact21 student will join

the program with their own needs in their learning and their own way of setting

and working towards professional goals. This is a personalised approach to

planning, learning, and working.

We guide students through a growth journey towards becoming professional

adults, so that at the end of the program they can:

think ahead, managing a physical and mental workload

develop strategies to problem-solve confusing tasks or interactions

manage their fitness and nutrition, and understand the link between food and

its effect on their energy levels for work

understand their work hours, pay, and leave entitlements

interact appropriately at work in a social, polite, and friendly way

follow instructions from a boss and work in a team

use strategies to regulate their emotions independently

plan their days/weeks with a calendar, and navigate a work commute.

                                                                              PAGE | 06
