Inner Wheel Club of Havant District 11 March 2021 President : Jeanette Crane Secretary : Maggy Chesters Well, here we go again! I hope you are all well and not too fed up with the lock down, I am trying to think if I have done anything this month that might be of interest to you! But the answer is No! It’s all the same as last month! Gardening is on the Agenda now and I enclose a picture of my River flowing well. I cut my lawn yesterday, but sadly it is full of moss, so some hard work is needed. It’s so lovely to see the bulbs appearing and hopefully they will soon all be out in bloom. Spring is such a lovely time of year. Jan has kindly arranged a Speaker for our next Zoom meeting which I am very much looking forward to. Please all take care and hopefully it won’t be too long before we can meet up again. Jeanette Club News We were very sad to learn that Bryan Bouch, the husband of past member Sandra Bouch, has passed away. He has been unwell for a number of years but always remained cheerful and optimistic. We send our sincere condolences to Sandra and her family. International There had been various suggestions from District that we should celebrate International Women’s Day, so it was very appropriate that Dot suggested we should join with Havant Rotary who were buying a Shelter Box. This box is earmarked for North West Syria and is concentrated on the needs of women and children. There were pictures on TV a few days’ ago, showing these dreadful camps, where there is no hope of a decent life for them. All this is caused by their government’s persecution of its own citizens! Havant Rotary found some more money and so two boxes have been sent.
Next year, 2021 -2022, the Executive Committee will be much the same as this year for obvious reasons. The plan is that Jeanette Crane will be Immediate Past President and Speakers’ Secretary, Vice President Jan will move in to the President’s chair, and Frankie Moore will be Vice President. This year is a Convention Year, when Inner Wheel Delegates from all over the world congregate in an overseas venue. Obviously, due to the pandemic, this will not take place, but nevertheless, is being held by Zoom. At a recent Zoom meeting of the Executive Committee, we considered all the various proposals very carefully. Sometimes, it only consisting of changing the wording of an existing rule, for greater clarity. Proposals for the National AGM were considered too. District Chairman Mary Fenn was appointed to be our voting delegate and more details will be posted next month. What are we thinking of now? For at least the last 12 years, lavender has been utmost in Lesley’s mind at this time of year. There have been meetings between Rosie, the lavender farm owner’s wife, Carol of Chichester IW who liaises with Lesley, and Lesley herself. Although we will not know with any certainty of opening until nearer the time, we need to be prepared. We were all good Girl Guides! It was decided that, all things being well, we will do the refreshments on Monday 12 July,th and Tuesday 13th July. There will will a big emphasis on hygiene and general safety, and bio-degradable products will be used as far as possible. Cakes will be served in boxes, coffee will be served in biodegradable cups. Milk will be in individual portions and juice will only be in bottles. All this will mean that there is little to be handled, so therefore it will be very much safer. All these items will mean that there will be less profit, but that seems a small price to pay for everyone’s safety. Lesley would be very grateful to know how many people are prepared to make cakes. The usual Victoria sponge is the ever- most popular, in all flavours, particularly …..guess? Lavender ! Lesley would also like to know how many members are prepared to help on the day. This is all hypothetical, but we have to start planning at some point. A jockey decided to exercise his horse after dark. It was a nightmare !

The one which tripped many people was number 20. A lady called Maud , who lived by herself, was very keen on jigsaws. One day, she was given a big box, with a beautiful brightly coloured cockerel. She was delighted with it ,but when she opened it and tipped out all the pieces, she found that it was very dif cult indeed , She decided to ask a neighbour, Fred, to come and help her get started. Fred duly came to the house, and when he saw the problem, he said, “Maud, you go and make some coffee and I will put all these Corn akes back in the box!” Am I alone in thinking? Phrases come and go in the English language, often meaningless waffle. The one which is constantly used, mainly by politicians, at the moment, is …Going forward. Everyone is going forward! Have you noticed a phrase that is in constant use? Please tell the CC. At least it has replaced “So!” fi fl
