• This calendar contains all currently scheduled MDHHS trainings related to
HIV Care, Prevention, and Partner Services.
• On the next screen, you may click on a month to view that particular month

to provide analysis of possible external and internal socioeconomic, cultural, and social
factors a client may experience. Participants will also learn about injection drug use and
syringe access programs, as well as additional behavioral assessments and referral options
available to clients. Upon completion of the module, participants should be able to facilitate
client-centered prevention counseling, understand how external and internal factors can
affect a client’s behavior, and offer a variety of prevention options based on the client’s

Partner Services (PS) Certification Training
The two-day Partner Services Certification Training for Local Health Departments is designed to
familiarize staff with a number of strategies to control and prevent the spread of HIV and other
STDs. Utilizing the updated “Recommendations for Conducting Integrated Partners Services for
HIV/STD Prevention”, participants will learn about program policy and practices for conducting PS
activities. Emphasis will be placed on techniques for working with individuals diagnosed with HIV
and other STDs to identify their at-risk partners, so prevention counseling, testing, and referral
services can be provided. Participants will learn skills to conduct thorough field investigations and
techniques for personal safety. In addition, participants will learn skills to enhance the delivery of
partner services.
Intended Audience: This course is required for all HIV Test Counselors who are employed in a local
health department and who are designated to conduct PS field investigation activities.
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of all three CTR module trainings prior to registering for this
course.

CM Training – Part 1: Fundamentals of HIV
Case Management
The medical case management training curriculum consists of three parts. Part One:
Fundamentals of HIV Case Management and Part Two: Medication Adherence are two days
each, and Part Three: Case Management Resources is only one day. Case managers need to
attend all five days of training to be fully trained in medical case management by MDHHS.
This training will focus on the State of Michigan Standards of Care for Medical Case Managers
to ensure the quality and consistency of delivering HIV services across the State of Michigan.
This training will include interactive components, such as discussions, activities, and quizzes.
Intended Audience: Medical Case Managers that are newly hired (CM Training – Part 2: Medication Adherence This training will review current recommendations for antiretroviral therapy and examine emerging and newly-approved HIV Medications. It will also cover the impact of adherence and resistance on the clinical management of HIV, will introduce adherence counseling techniques, and have interactive components. CM Training – Part 3: Case Management
Resources
The medical case management training curriculum consists of three parts. Part One: Fundamentals

This training will cover necessary resources for case managers to help meet the needs of their
clients. The day will include overviews of and instructions for the Michigan Drug Assistance
Program (MIDAP), Michigan Dental Program (MDP), Premium Assistance (PA), Insurance Assistance
Program (IAP) and Human Services, Affordable Care Act (ACA), Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP),
and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA).
Intended Audience: Medical Case Managers that are newly hired (Early Intervention Services (EIS) Training This two-day training will provide an overview of EIS and go into depth about the State of Michigan Standards of Care for EIS workers, linkage and outreach strategies. The last day will cover necessary resources for Early Intervention Specialists to help meet the needs of their clients. Intended Audience: EIS staff that are newly hired (

Perinatal Health Care
This update will look at pregnant women living with HIV in Michigan, as well as
what services pregnant women or those planning on becoming pregnant may
benefit from. Participants will also learn about the updated law regarding
testing requirements for HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B related to perinatal care.
Intended Audience: All interested persons are welcome to apply to attend
update training courses. Applicants who are employed and/or volunteering at a
State-funded agency will receive priority for course placement.

This update will explore inside the issue of human trafficking in Michigan.
Participants will learn the myths of trafficking, stigmatization, legal
ramifications, identify the health needs of multiple stages of victims of
trafficking, and explore how to collaborate in addressing the need of support
for victims.

Communication for Sexual Health Providers
Providing sexual health services goes beyond knowing what to swab and how
to treat. It involves navigating complex conversations that incorporate
topics from partners to pleasure. This training is designed to help you practice
the skills to make those conversations go smoothly and create an environment
in which patients feel comfortable sharing intimate details of their sex lives.
Intended Audience: All interested persons are welcome to apply to attend
update training courses. Nurses will be given preference for this training.
