The IAPB was founded in 1963 and is the largest professional organisation
representing the interests of the world-wide plant biotechnology community
with membership drawn from over 50 countries.
Advances in science and technology are continuing apace, aimed at addressing
the serious challenges faced by humankind, including how to feed an ever-
growing population in a way that does not destroy the planet for future
generations. Compounding the issue is the effects of global climate change,
access to land and water for growing crops, emerging pests and pathogens
and issues with large scale food waste, amongst others. Other important
areas where plant scientists are making significant contributions include: in
the improvement of food quality and in the design of ‘specialty food’ using
biochemical engineering, and in the production of biomaterials.
The Association has the only journal devoted solely to worldwide coverage of in
vitro biology in plants. The journal, published by Springer, was founded in 1965
and ‘ its high-caliber original research and reviews make it required reading for
anyone who needs comprehensive coverage of the latest developments and
state-of-the-art research in plant cell and tissue culture and biotechnology
from around the world’. We understand that the widespread acceptance of
new technologies can only be achieved by providing the public with clear
and unambiguous information and to that end many of our members are
engaged in outreach activities and act as ‘ambassadors’ for the dissemination of
information in this area.
Since 1963, the IAPB has been hosting quadrennial congresses around the
world. The next IAPB quadrennial meeting will be held in Dublin, Ireland in 2018.
Plant scientists have made major contributions to all of these areas
to date and our members and colleagues around the world continue
to highlight the necessity of strong investment in research and
development by Governments and the importance of nurturing
collaborations between the public and private sectors, in order that
timely solutions can be found to address these very serious issues.
ABOUT IAPB 2018
Over the last two decades the meeting has moved between Israel, Florida,

China, USA and Australia. The last time this meeting was held in Europe was 2
over 20 years ago i.e. Florence, Italy in 1994, where over 1500 people were in
attendance. In 1990 at the previous meeting, a record 2,566 people attended
(Amsterdam, The Netherlands). We are excited to be bringing this meeting
back to Europe, to a world class venue in the heart of Dublin, Ireland where we
promise you will experience a truly vibrant, scientifically challenging and socially
engaging meeting.
OBJECTIVES OF IAPB 2018
– THEME TOPICS – KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
It seems almost trite to say that we live in challenging times. Notwithstanding
the clear advances that are being made in science and technology in the 21st
century, it is remarkable that every day, millions of people go hungry. Add to
that the issues surrounding ‘hidden hunger’ e.g. in relation to micronutrient
deficiencies, it is clear that a lot of work is needed in providing solutions to
these problems. Plant biotechnology is and will continue to provide some of
the solutions.
To that end, this congress will enable world class scientists to present their
work on areas such as latest innovations in precision breeding, in vitro culture
and morphogenesis, food security, plant nutriomics, biopharmaceuticals, roots
and tubers and under the banner of communication, regulation and public
acceptance of new technologies.
HOST ORGANISATION
The conference is being hosted by the IAPB Executive and Conference Partners
based in Ireland. The current Executive consists of the President (Dr Barbara
Doyle Prestwich, Cork), the Treasurer (Dr Eoin Lettice,) both based in University
College Cork and the Editor-in-Chief (Dr Ewen Mullins) Teagasc, Oakpark,
Carlow. The Executive is backed up by a Local Organising Committee drawn
from other Universities, Institute of Education and the Environmental Protection
Agency within Ireland and an International Committee with membership
from four continents including the immediate past president from Melbourne,
Australia.

Display your corporate advert digitally within the Conference venue. Maximum
of 2 adverts per company. Within a two minute period your advert will appear
for 10 seconds. This means your advert will be shown 300 times over the day
on one screen, and 2,100 times throughout the venue in 7 prime locations. The
floor plan, programme and key note speakers will also be shown on each of

Organised by the sponsor, this exclusive in camera themed focus groups
will take place onsite at the CCD. These 45 minute dedicated focus group
sessions (up to 10 participants) will include some keynote speakers, principal
investigators and scientific committee as identified by the chair of IAPB 2018, in
conjunction with the local organising committee, industry advisory committee
and the sponsor. IAPB 2018 will encourage the right attendees to participate

early May 2018.

opportunities are subject to VAT at 23%. All VAT registered EU organisations
outside of Ireland will not be charged VAT on Partnership if a VAT number is
