FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
FOURTH MEETING OF THE AD HOC TECHNICAL EXPERT GROUP
ON FARMERS’ RIGHTS
4 – 7 May 2021
Compilation of the submissions received since the Eighth Session of the
Governing Body on national measures, best practices and lessons learned
from the realization of Farmers’ Rights, as set out in Article 9 of the
International Treaty
1. At its Eighth Session, the Governing Body, through Resolution 6/2019, 1 welcomed the
Inventory of National Measures, Best Practices and Lessons Learned from the Realization of Farmers’
Rights (the Inventory). 2
2. To continue updating the Inventory, the Secretariat issued a notification inviting inputs from
Contracting Parties and relevant stakeholders to update previous submissions they made on views, best
practices and measures for implementing Article 9 of the International Treaty. 3 It also invited
Contracting Parties and relevant stakeholders who could not make any submissions previously to
submit their views, best practices and measures for implementing Farmers’ Rights so that these may
be included in the Inventory.
3. Since the Eighth Session of the Governing Body, the Secretariat received additional
submissions from Contracting Parties: Brazil, Spain and Jordan, and from other stakeholders: African
Centre for Biodiversity, Association for AgriCulture and Ecology, North East Slow Food and
Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS), Southeast Asia Regional Initiative for Community
Empowerment (SEARICE) and South Centre and Oxfam. 4
