WELCOME TO
Kalispell
T
AKE A DEEP BREATH, open your eyes and look around.
You have arrived at the center of it all. In the midst of
acres upon acres of earth waiting to be conquered, the
middle of thousands of memories waiting to be made, and the
hub of a wild and wonderful Montana adventure.
Gaze to the northwest and you will be staring into Glacier
National Park, an American jewel brimming with breathtaking
views and endless backcountry opportunities, all draped in a
rich history of preservation. Turn your eyes south and catch the
impossibly clear waters of the largest freshwater lake west of the
Mississippi and see the tranquility contained within. Let your
eyes admire the majestic wildlife, the singing birds, the bright
flowers, the cowboys on horseback, the farmers in the field, the
artists in front of their canvas, the explorers finding themselves
and the wanderers finding their way home.
But then stop for a moment. And look at what’s right in front of
you. See what’s available in downtown Kalispell and map your ad-
venture. Sip a local microbrew crafted right here on Main Street.
Grab a sushi roll made fresh for you. Be awed by a painting
inspired by this land. Gear up for a fishing trip and get an insider
tip from a friendly local. Take another breath, feel the fresh air in
your lungs, hear the buzz of nature and the bustle of downtown,
and smile.
You’re here in Kalispell, far from your everyday and right in the
middle of it all.

KNOW US
Here in the heart of the Flathead Valley, life is awe-inspiring
and simple at the same time. And that ability to both lose
ourselves – to wander in millions of acres of protected and
pristine lands - or find ourselves by channeling the confident
frontier spirit that drove the development of this regional
powerhouse, is what makes this mountain community a place
you’ll want to visit, and perhaps live.
A few of Kalispell’s passionate
ambassadors share their
personal stories.

CULTURE
Montana is the perfect place to stretch out, but even an eagle likes a good nest when
it’s not spreading its wings. Kalispell’s right in the middle of everything — hiking, biking,
mountain climbing, skiing, fishing, boating and more — and is waiting for you, with open
arms. Northwest Montana’s largest city, Kalispell is where the locals live. And play. And
eat. And drink. And love calling home.

snow travel can be rented in historic down-
town Kalispell at the 100-year-old Whea-

thing, skiers and snowboarders can play
all day at Whitefish Mountain Resort and
Blacktail Mountain Ski Area (Lakeside),
which are located in nearby towns, before
heading back to Kalispell for a nightcap
and a good night’s rest.
FRESH AND HEALTHY
In order to climb mountains, swim lakes,
and bike across the land, you’re going to
need some food to fuel the tank. Thankfully
Kalispell has a variety of delicious options
that pleases any palate. Main Street is lined
with restaurants that feature everything
from mouth-watering burgers, fresh sushi,
to authentic Thai cuisine. If you’re looking
to wet your whistle, enjoy a local micro-
brew or libation. Downtown is home to
three breweries and a distillery. If there’s
one thread that runs through them all, it’s
local. The chefs are local, the owners are
local, and the ingredients are local. The
farms and ranches in Kalispell and beyond
provide free-range meats and organic pro-
duce, some of which you can find at farm-
ers markets and natural grocers in town.
FIND YOUR BALANCE
What sets Kalispell apart is the way two
worlds come together. This is a town drip-
ping with history, but not stuck in the past.
You don’t need to look any further than
right down Main Street to see that real-
ity. Without sacrificing that old Western
charm, Main Street has been revitalized in
recent years with new shops and res-
taurants injecting a modern feel into the
classic Western architecture. That’s not
to say, though, that all of history is gone
from downtown. Take a step back in time
and enjoy a classic soda fountain (Norm’s
News), a peanut-shell-littered saloon serv-
ing tasty pizzas (Moose’s) and an ornate
place to lay your head (Kalispell Grand
Hotel). History and modern life collide at
Kalispell Brewing Co., right in the middle
of Main Street, a locally owned craft brew-
er operating out of a historic old building,
and one of three breweries in town.

THE LONGEST OF GLACIER NATIONAL PARK’S 536 streams starts at the confluence
of two delicate creeks draining off the Continental Divide. McDonald Creek winds down
25.8 miles, gaining steam as it picks up runoff from massive glacially-carved mountains
like Longfellow and Heavens Peaks, before emptying into the 10-mile-long Lake McDon-
ald. In turn, these waters drain south into the Middle Fork Flathead River, a powerful
and fast-moving river that originates in the heart of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. At
the southwestern corner of the park, the Middle Fork meets the North Fork, and then, 10
river miles downstream, the South Fork. The mighty main stem of the Flathead charges
toward Flathead Lake. The lake is one of the clearest and cleanest bodies of crystalline
water in the West due to several influences including a relatively low human population
in the watershed, and the rapid flushing of the lake – about 2.2 years for all the water to
be replaced.
