In our initial year the school will accommodate 72 students and ultimately we will provide for up to 1,000 students. 2
Curriculum The Framework for Junior Cycle provides the basis for the Le Chéile Secondary School to plan quality, inclusive and relevant educational programmes. These will be designed to provide a high quality teaching and learning experience for all students. The school has considerable freedom to design Junior Cycle programmes that meet the needs of all students. The curriculum will include a mix of subjects and short courses, as well as other learning experiences. The full range of traditional subjects will be covered and decisions in relation to European languages, technolo- gy subjects and short courses will be made in collaboration with school partners in the coming weeks. Our aim is to achieve the highest possible level of academic excellence for all. Senior Cycle Provision The Senior Cycle caters for students from Transition Year to Leaving Certificate. The full range of subjects will be available at Senior Cycle for the traditional Leaving Certificate. Decisions regarding Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) will be made in conjunction with school partners at a later stage. Programmes for Students with Additional Needs The school will use the Department of Education (NEPS) Continuum of Support Framework to identify and respond to students’ needs. Using this framework will ensure that interventions are incremental, moving from class-based interventions to more intensive and individualised supports that are informed by the careful moni- toring of students’ progress. Extracurricular Programme The range of extracurricular activities will ensure that the school’s culture and ethos are visible to all students. Every opportunity to enhance the physical, mental, spiritual and social wellbeing of students will be provided for. Involvement in sporting, arts and music, theatre, debating, community outreach and other activities will enable students to build life skills and develop a strong sense of connection to their school. 3
