England international Lucy Bronze has resigned for WSL
side Manchester City on a two year deal. The defender left
the north-west for Olympique Lyonnais in August 2017,
where she won three successive Champions Leagues,
three Division 1s, two Coupe de Frances and a Trophee des
Championnes. She previously played 53 for the Citizens
between 2015 and 2017, where she scored 9 goals on the
way to picking up a WSL title as well as an FA Cup and
Continental Cup. Arriving on a free transfer, she becomes
Citys’ fourth arrival of the summer.

Manchester United are reportedly set to sign Tobin Heath
from Portland Thorns and Christen Press from Utah Royals,
both world cup winners with the USA. Manager Casey
Stoney has revealed that they are set to join the club on
one year deals. The players, who each have over 100 caps
each, join a United side who finished fourth in the top flight
                                                             last season.

The FA have this week announced that both the men’s and
women’s national teams are receiving equal pay. Players
of both genders reportedly receive the exact same pay in
terms of match fees and bonuses, which was said to have
started in January, which is believed to be around £1000
per game. This news comes several days after the Brazilian
FA announced that they are doing a similar scheme.
The head of the FA professional football has said
that the recent increase in big name signings by
WSL clubs will help make the league one of the
worlds’ best. The last several transfer windows have
seen increased spending by women’s sides, with
many acquiring international stars, including world
cup winners. Reigning WSL champions Chelsea
spent just over £250,00 to capture Pernille
Harder from Wolfsburg, which is thought to be a
world record. This also comes after TV deals for
the league were signed in the USA and Germany.
Sunday 29th August saw WSL winners Chelsea
defeat FA Cup winners Manchester City 2-0 in
an empty Wembley Stadium in the Community
Shield. This years’ edition was the first to be played
since 2008, when it was revived after eleven
years. The game was the first of a double header
at the national stadium two weeks ago, with the
men’s equivalent being played later that afternoon.
The shield was to ultimately remain in London, with
Chelsea taking the lead on 66 minutes, thanks
to Millie Bright, with their win ultimately being
sealed in added time at the end of the half, when
substitute Erin Cuthbert found the back of the
net.

                                                         Rose Lavelle, the USA international
                                                         who signed for Manchester City
last week, has revealed that she
thinks that a rivalry has now been
                                                         formed between the USA and
England teams. This comes after the
                                                         England national team has gotten
stronger over recent years, and can
                                                         now threaten the dominance of
                                                         the Americans. The former Boston

                                                         only intensify, as England continue

Six new Bees make debuts
           On opening weekend
    DESPITE DEFEAT TO COVENTRY
       UNITED LAST WEEKEND
One major positive was the new players who made their first appearance in a
                             London Bees shirt.
We take an individual look at each debutant in a little more detail:

                   Olivia Smith
Smith joined the Bees on the week of the opening
game and was thrown straight into her FA Women’s
Championship debut in Coventry last weekend. The
defender came to The Hive London, having previously
spent time with FA Women’s Super League side West
Ham United. Smith linked up well with both Charlie
Estcourt and Lauren Pickett on the right hand side of
                                               the pitch.

             Sophie McLean
Sophie knows exactly how it feels to be promoted
from the FA Women’s Championship having achieved
the feet with her former Club Tottenham Hotspur
Women. McLean is already well accustom with her new
team mates and put in a solid debut performance in
the centre of the pitch last weekend. Lee Burch will be
looking to his new midfielder as an experienced head
in a young Bees side. We’re looking forward to seeing
                     McLean’s home debut this afternoon!
Charlie Estcourt
There’s no doubt that Estcourt is a very exciting signing,
the senior Welsh international will be one of the most
eye catching players in the league. Estcourt joined
following a spell with FAWSL side Reading and will
be looking to impress manager Lee Burch in the early
part of this new campaign. The creative midfield player
found herself in good positions in the early stages of last
week’s match and will be looking to find that finishing
touch on her home debut this afternoon.

           Marianna Taho
The former Arsenal striker caused some problems on
her FA Women’s Championship debut, her physicality at
the top end of the pitch will certainly be of benefit to
Lee Burch’s side. Taho held the ball up well and linked
up nicely with strike partner Lauren Pickett. She’ll be
hoping to get off the mark with Liverpool in town this
                                                afternoon.

                               Mel Filis
Yet another exciting young player who joined on the
last week of pre-season, was former Arsenal attacker
Mel Filis. Filis played 45 minutes last weekend and
caused Coventry some problems with her pace and
agility on the ball. She is tipped to be one of England’s
future stars and in glimpses you could see why in the
                                second half against Coventry.

Millie Constantine
What a proud moment for our academy, as 16-year-old
Millie Constantine made her senior debut in the final
minutes of last weekend’s match. Millie has impressed
massively when playing for u18 team and was rightfully
handed the chance to be with the senior squad for this
campaign. There is no doubt that many of the stars of
the future are right here at The Hive London. We’d like
to congratulate Millie on her wonderful achievement.
From the
Press desk
Hello to everyone reading today’s match programme from
afar, as we take on Liverpool in our first home matchday of
the new season. I want to take this opportunity to give a
warm welcome to my counterparts who have travelled down
   from Merseyside.

Firstly, I hope everyone has kept well in this really difficult
period, it’s been a really tough time for a number of people.
Hopefully, we will be able to see you at The Hive for a Bees
game soon. The Club are working really hard behind the
scenes to ensure that when we’re given the green light to have
you back, we will be ready to welcome you back safely.

I wanted to use this opportunity to give some well-earned
recognition to the charitable arm of our Club, The Hive
Foundation. Between Matt, Sian and the rest of the team, they
have done an amazing job supporting lots of people during
the pandemic. From the support for key worker children, the
food bank and over 40,000 meals for NHS hospitals, their
   tireless work deserves applauding.
From a media point of view, you may have seen our new goal
GIFS for this season. With any luck we will see those GIFS
pretty often this year! The group we have this year are a great
bunch both on and off the pitch, the aim is to highlight that
through our media content throughout the year.

There will be plenty of interviews in these programmes
throughout the season, so please do keep reading them. If
you don’t already, make sure you follow us across our socials
because there’ll be plenty of good stuff on there throughout
   the year.

Let’s hope we can mark our return to home soil with a big
   victory against Liverpool this afternoon!
