About this Paper

Augmented Reality (AR) powered virtual try-on has become a dominant technology trend
and is now influencing the jewelry business’ younger, tech-savvy buyers. Leading retailers are
successfully using AR technology to provide an interactive and personalized try-on experience
on multiple channels, which has enabled traditional jewelry retailers to stay relevant.

Consumer outlook and shopping patterns are rapidly changing. Digital trends have unlocked
new ways of catering to evolving consumer needs. In recent years, there has been an increase
in online consumer presence, and the adoption of online technologies is accelerated further
by the social distancing regulations brought into effect during the 2020 global pandemic.

Gartner predicted emerging technology, AR, has now become an industry-proof technology
that executives can safely invest in to improve and innovate their business [1, 11].

Despite growing enthusiasm, AR-powered virtual try-on technology is not widely known by
       luxury jewelry retailers.

What is a virtual try-on? How do luxury jewelry brands position themselves in the digital
world with virtual try-on to boost sales, lower the risk of returns, and facilitate consumer
       engagement?

      Shopping Trends

              ONLINE RETAIL GETS HIGH TRACTION
1 Due to the increasing advancement in online marketing trends
and the growing adoption of technological advancement
techniques, the demand for online jewelry shopping is predicted
to witness tremendous growth in the coming years. At present,

                                                                                   70%+

              CONNECTED IN-STORE EXPERIENCES
3 Nielsen’s global deep dive into emerging consumer demands points to the growing role
of in-store technology [4]. In-store tech is posed to enable retailers to use augmented
intelligence and customer data to personalize, predict, and recommend their products,
              optimizing the customer’s in-store experience.

In-store technologies will help shoppers quickly navigate through the products, enable
social sharing, and provide real-time promotions, all based on shoppers’ preferences,
allowing brands to combine tailored luxury shopping experiences with trust.

              CONSUMERS DEMAND A PERSONALIZED SHOPPING
        4 EXPERIENCE
From bracelets to engagement and wedding rings—essentially any piece of jewelry—
retailers are seeing a huge trend toward customization [13].

Personalization is becoming a priority for many couples when buying engagement rings.
Almost 50% of engagement rings now feature custom-designed elements [7].

IDENTIFYING SHOPPERS TRENDS TO GET A COMPETITIVE EDGE
5 Deloitte’s jewelry industry report points out that the jewelry industry has a lot to benefit
from the potential of data-driven insights and advanced analytics [5].

Retail analytics will help organizations have more flexible, receptive, and cohesive data
management systems and assist them in devising new strategies to target specific
objectives such as increasing footfall and improving customer loyalty. Companies will
be able to improve their targeted marketing strategies with location-based offers and
increase upselling opportunities with current customers [6].

GEN Z WILL BE THE AR GENERATION
6 JWT Intelligence reports 56 percent of Gen Z (born ’96-’10) use social apps to express
themselves creatively [14]. In the information age and with growing competition, jewelry
retailers will have to employ innovative approaches like AR, targeting online marketing
channels with cameras as the first touchpoint to attract customer attention.

         Findings:

65% said the experience would help them shop for jewelry both online and in-

                  User Dashboard
Trueview AR’s custom-designed user dashboard supported by web plugin technology
assists B2B/B2C clients in collecting product purchase and engagement data along
with customer demographic data. Data is retreived from purchases, abandons,
try-on, and customization interactions, and is filtered through various data science
techniques to analyze the collected data. Jewelers can use the try-on data and product
interaction information to predict buyer trends, inform merchandising decisions, and
encourage engagement between staff and customers. The dashboard also helps
track sales and plan product assortment across multiple store outlets. Further, data
reporting is curated to provide insights based on the unique requirements of each
                  Brand client.

Trueview AR can work with businesses to introduce new data pipelines based on
