About us:
Holdsworth Community Centre is a not-for-profit organisation based in Woollahra in Sydney’s
eastern suburbs. From the centre and other locations in the area we provide a range of
recreational, respite and support programs and activities which promote the well-being of
residents of the five Eastern Sydney local government areas (Woollahra, Botany, Randwick,
City of Sydney and Waverley) especially those disadvantaged by age, disability, income or
social isolation, families with young children and for those who are carers for others.

Our Services for older people are firmly based on the belief that age should be no impediment
to enjoying life and community participation. We offer a range of services to older people from
the active to the physically dependent and those living with memory loss. Our team of
experienced staff encourages independence, self awareness, developing new life skills,
creating pathways & strengthening community connections. We are focused on delivering
person centred activities to our participants and supporting our people towards a Happy Life.

POSITION DETAILS

Position Title:       Meals on Wheels Team Leader

Position Aim:         To supervise and lead daily operations as well as develop and maintain
                      the current service.

Reporting To:         Food Projects Coordinator

Direct Reports:       Casual staff, volunteers

Position Based:       Latimer centre (512 New South Head Rd, Double Bay) to be relocated
                      to Gaden Centre (Corner of Queen St and Edgecliff Rd, Woollahra) mid
                      2013.

Position Status:      Permanent Full Time

Hours:                35 hours per week - (Monday to Friday) Some evening and weekend
                      work may be required on time-in-lieu basis.

All Team Leader positions at Holdsworth are classified at Level 3 under the Social,
Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 and have the
following common attributes:

Characteristics: Works under general direction following well established procedures.
Exercises initiative within established work procedures. Supervise support workers/volunteers
in day-to-day work, within clearly defined guidelines. This might include on-the-job training.

Responsibilities: On-the responsibility for specialised activities or partial responsibility for
parts of more complex projects: assist more senior staff on interpretation of matters for which
work practices not clearly defined.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience: Skill level to an appropriate Certificate IV qualification with
relevant experience. Through knowledge of work activities performed on programs and
relevant statutory requirements.

Relationships: Works under general direction; operates as team member: may supervise
other employees.

Authority: Acts within established practises: problems can usually be solved by reference to
procedures and instructions. Assistance available when problems occur.

Special Requirements:
   • All employees of the Centre must undergo a Police and Working with Children
      background check.
   • All employees of the Centre are required to take up to 2 weeks leave during Centre
      closure - late December to early January

Objectives
  •    To have an understanding of current industry changes and implement person centred
       approaches in all day to day operations
  •    To work within Holdsworth vision of increasing people’s happiness
  •    To ensure best practice service provision to target group
  •    To support Food Projects Coordinator to secure sustainable resources
  •    To supervise the day–to–day operations of Meals on Wheels, including supervision and
       support of casual staff and volunteers, assist with program budget management, client
       assessments, reviews, submission of monthly report and maintaining all necessary
       records and statistics
  •    To assess, review and monitor the needs of people referred to the service.
  •    To ensure that people receive the most appropriate services in a detailed and prompt
       manner
  •    To assist with the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of Meals
       on Wheels Service training needs
  •    To help develop partnerships and networks in relation to the MOW service.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Planning and implementation
   •   Assist in planning the future direction of the Meals on Wheels service.
   •   Liaise and network with all appropriate organisations and suppliers
   •   Promote the service by approaching appropriate organisations and services within the
       community
   •   Assist in developing a plan to increase the number of people accessing the service.
   •   Assist with expanding existing services, plan, design and establish new services and
       activities to meet identified needs.
   •   Maintain information on policies, practices and issues, and implement all necessary
       Government requirements and initiatives.
   •   Provide information, advice and referrals to all people seeking information about the
       service
   •   Assist in developing a strategic food services plan
   •   Help develop and maintain accurate and detailed records.
   •   Maintain ordering procedures

Staff management and training
   •   Assist in managing, supporting, rostering and motivating of staff and volunteers to
       ensure the smooth running of services
   •   Help establish job descriptions/Task descriptions for staff and volunteers
   •   Refer issues relating to disputes, grievances or poor performance to the Food Projects
       Coordinator/ Seniors Community Manager
   •   Help provide and deliver general Holdsworth training with the assistance of all staff
       and Management.

Financial responsibilities
   •   Maintain reporting procedures developed by Food Projects Coordinator
   •   Comply with Holdsworth cash handling, banking and recording procedures

Continuous quality improvement

   •    Supervise and help develop the Meals on Wheels service to ensure that operations
        are compliant with contract requirements as well as local, state and federal laws and
        policies
   •    Liaise with Food Projects Coordinator to help develop effective evaluation systems to
        ensure most effective use of available resources
   •    Maintain continuous improvement methodology in all aspects of operations

Assessment
   •    Implement person centred plans for each individual
   •    Complete initial assessments for Meals on Wheels Clients and follow guidelines
   •    Where appropriate, make referrals to alternative services and other services providers.

Administration
   •    Follow Centre administrative protocols
   •    Complete, sign and submit a timesheet by end of each pay period
   •    Report any incidents/accidents to Coordinator/Manager and submit appropriate
        documentation within designated timeframe
   •    Attend staff meetings and others as required

General
    •   At all times abide by the Centre’s policies and procedures and the Code of Conduct
    •   Observe and comply with WHS standards, requirements and legislation
    •   Participate and assist in Centre and program special events
    •   Promote Centre membership in all activities
    •   Other duties related to position as directed by the Food Projects Coordinator
    •   Attend staff meetings and others as required
    •   Participation in training and professional development as required

The success of this role will be measured by:

   •    The happiness levels of people who utilise, work or volunteer in all aspects of the
        service
   •    Continuous improvement of all service delivery as objectively measured
   •    Demonstrated commitment to the vision, mission and values of Holdsworth

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate that
he/she has the following experience, skills and attributes. Please address these

Essential:
   • At least 1 year’s experience working with older people and/or people with disabilities and
      carers
   • Tertiary qualification in Aged Care or a related area. E.g. Community Welfare, Health or
      Nutrition background or equivalent. E.g. demonstrated experience working in the industry
   • Evidence of strong and effective leadership, team building, interpersonal and
      communication skills
   • Demonstrated experience in development of new or continuing service.
   • Experience in working in a changing environment and flexibility around coping with change
   • Strong computer literacy including knowledge of Microsoft applications, databases, and
      online ordering practices.
   • Outstanding phone manner
   • Demonstrated knowledge and application of WHS, EEO and anti discrimination legislative
      requirements
   • Current driver’s license (C or above)
   • Demonstrated leadership skills
   • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
   • Excellent organisational and time management skills

Desirable:
   • Experience in negotiating and liaison with suppliers
   • Food safety knowledge, nutrition understanding, special dietary understanding
   • Experience in food delivery/catering
   • Experience in writing and reporting on funding and performance submissions
   • Experience working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse populations
   • Senior First Aid Certificate
   • Knowledge of File Maker Pro, Antaris Food Manager Software and TMA database
   • Own vehicle
