WELCOME TO RESIDENCE
You’ve been formally accepted to St. Thomas University,
and I’d like to welcome you to your new home — STU
Residence.

This year will be unlike any other we’ve had before. While
the experience of residence won’t look the way you
imagined when you applied, I want to let you know that
there are a whole crew of folks who are here to make your
year with us the best it can be. There will still be lots of
opportunities to make friends, develop networks, and get
support through various virtual programs.

This guide is a resource for you (and your family) as you
prepare for the big move. We can’t wait to meet you and
welcome you to your new home!

MOVE-IN 2 RESIDENCE - STU.CA/RESIDENCE - St. Thomas University
FOR THE STUDENTS
Welcome to Residence at St. Thomas University, your home for the 2020-2021 academic year! Although living in residence
will be different this year, we are working hard to ensure it is still a space you can learn, grow, and share new experiences!

Students can forward any questions or concerns to the Residence Life Office by phone at (506) 452-0578, or email at
residencelife@stu.ca .

RESIDENCE LIFE STAFF
There are different student leaders that live in your building that will provide resources, support and events throughout the
academic year. There are Residence Coordinators (RC) in each building, Residence Advisors (RAs) for each wing and House
Committee (HC) members that live in each building. Residence Supervisors are full-time university staff in charge of fostering
a positive living environment and promoting academic and personal development for you and your fellow residents. Their
responsibilities include policy/procedure administration, crisis intervention, student staff supervision, programming facilita-
tion and direction, and student leader mentoring. They also live in our residence buildings, so they are available for questions
and concerns!

WELCOME WEEK 2020
Welcome Week events are currently underway! Throughout August different Clubs and Societies at STU will be hosting
virtual events for you to participate in. Please look for @STUwelcomeweek on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & TikTok for more
details! All Welcome Week events are virtual and will continue into your first week at STU!

FOR THE SUPPORTERS
We understand that all support circles are different for everyone- whether you’re a parent, guardian, sibling, friend, or loved
one of a student entering the St. Thomas University Residence community, know that you still play an important part in their
education, and growth! To learn more about the services your St. Thomas University student will be able to access, please
visit: https://www.stu.ca/students/

Please keep in mind that because of the on-going concerns with COVID-19, St. Thomas University Residence Life has
implemented a no-guest policy in our residences and will be unable to accommodate any in-person visits until further

notice. As directed by the Province of New Brunswick, if there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in residence, no student will
be permitted to leave residence until directed by Public Health and the Province in New Brunswick.

KEEPING IN TOUCH
It is important to have a discussion with your student prior to move-in on the best ways to communicate with one another
and expectations around frequency of communication.

For some, it is daily phone calls, while others opt for a family group chat, or video chat once a week. We recommend a routine
of regular, consistent contact with your loved one in residence to check-in on their well-being.

Communication during COVID-19 has become increasingly important and to help mitigate feelings of loneliness, people have
been coming up with creative ways of staying in touch- virtual games and activities, watch parties using various streaming
services, or the use of various social media platforms. The possibilities are endless when deciding what works best for you
and your student!
