advancement to the 2021 National Fine Arts Festival is not available due to this category not
being offered by the National Fine Arts Festival.

3. This category is a single participant category, and entries must be the original work of the
student registered.

5. All baked goods will be sold at the conclusion of Fine Arts – with all proceeds going to Speed
the Light.

#NDFAF21LODGING:
• Rooms have been blocked at various hotels. Please see the enclosed lodging table. Churches are responsible
for their own reservations. Reserve your anticipated number of rooms as soon as possible and be sure to note
the deadlines.
CHAPERONES:
• Each group should bring their own mature chaperones. An acceptable chaperone/student ratio is 1 to 6.
VOLUNTEERS:
• Each participating church must fill one volunteer slot for every six festival entries. These volunteers will work as a
door monitor during one segment (usually 2 hours) of the festival on Saturday. Fine Arts is a volunteer driven
event. We appreciate each church providing adequate volunteers to help keep costs minimal.
SCHEDULE NOTES:
• The final schedule will not be released until the week of the event. The PRIMARY CHURCH FINE ARTS LEADER,
as noted on the church registration form, will receive all communications about the event and schedule.
• We cannot schedule categories for specific times, as the schedule is dependent on student entries, judge
availability and other factors. We will not accommodate requests for events to be at specific times. Participating
students should plan to attend the entire festival. The system in place eliminates most students from being
double-booked for event performances. However, students with several entries may run into problems. If a
student is double-booked, it is the student and youth leader’s responsibility to arrange a switch with another
person. NDSM will not be handling the schedule changes.
• The Festival Orientation and Celebration Service are integral parts of this event. The Friday evening
orientation/service are MANDATORY for all student participants. The celebration service is optional; however, to
qualify for the Merit Award, all students in a given entry MUST attend the ENTIRE Saturday Celebration Service.
CATEGORIES:
• Please read the attached sheet for category listings. Only the categories listed will be offered.
• Rulebooks can be downloaded and printed from NDSTUDENTMIN.COM/FINEARTS
ART & WRITING ENTRIES:
• All art & writing entries must be checked in and brought to the appropriate room by the start of orientation on
Friday. See the change noted above – writing entries are no longer emailed in advance.
SHORT FILM:
• Short film entries must be provided digitally. Send an email with the link to your video to office@ndyouth.com
with a subject line that contains the participant or group name and “2021 Fine Arts Short Film Entry.” The e-mail
must be received by Monday, April 19. Late video entries will not be accepted.
• The provided link can either be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo or a download service (such as Dropbox). For
download services, the movie must be either in .mp4 or .mov format.
PARTICIPANTS:
• Fine Arts Festival is open to all Christian students who meet the following criteria:
1. Participating students must be enrolled in grades 6-12 or be 12 to 17 years of age as of September 1, 2020.
2. Participating students must be in good standing with a local A/G church and/or youth ministry.
*Note: 19-year-old students may not participate in Fine Arts unless they are enrolled in grades 6-12 as of
September 1, 2020.
#NDFAF21MERIT AWARDS:
• The Merit Award has been established to honor technical excellence and ministry engagement. We want to help
students develop their talents as well as deploy them in real ministry. Fine Arts Festival is a tool and not the end.
The Merit Award is meant to give honor to students who:
• Exhibit the attitude of ministers
• Use material that is easily understood by the intended audience
• Have been involved in some form of ministry at their home church during the previous year
• Perform well technically
Methods of determination:
• Evaluator scoring sheets to determine level of excellence and appropriateness
• Inspection of attitude pre, during, and post presentation
• Interaction with the student/group following the presentation
• Interview with judges following the presentation (students should be prepared to answer all of the questions
listed below)
Questions that may be asked during interaction:
• What does this piece mean to you and what do you hope to accomplish through this?
• How are you currently involved in ministry at your home church and school?
• How could you use this talent/gift to minister to others?
MIDDLE SCHOOL MERIT AWARD
• In an effort to encourage younger students to explore their gifts without hindrance, we offer a few Merit Divisions
specifically for Middle School Students in Grades 6-8.
• To qualify for these awards, an individual must be in one of those grades. For a group to qualify for the award,
ALL members of the group must be in Middle School. Middle Schoolers will be given a wristband at check-in,
which will signify to the judges that they are eligible for this award.
• Middle School students are still welcome to participate in groups with high school students and will be eligible
