Term 2 Issue 6 Thursday 6th August 2020

              TEN4TEN LEADERS
The TEN4TEN program is a unique opportunity for local youth leaders to come together with ten
community leaders for a conversation and mentoring opportunity. Canobolas students Blair
Bella and Isaiah King were successful applicants from among 40 local students who applied to
be a part of the program. They met with their mentors at the launch of the program recently.
Here is an email that we received recently from the coordinator of this initiative.
“All of us at RDA Central West want to thank Canobolas Rural Technology High School for
supporting Blair Bella and Isaiah King to participate in the TEN4TEN Leadership Program. Last
Thursday's launch was a huge success, and we are so impressed by the calibre of all the young
people who are participating in the program, as well as the wonderful mentors they will have the
opportunity to connect with over the next six months.
Once again, thank you so much for supporting the program.”

Kindest Regards
Suzi Welch, Grants and Events Officer, Regional Development Australia Central West

HSIE REPORT
Year 8 were learning about Japan under the
rule of the Shoguns last term. In the final
weeks of the topic, Year 8 classes had the
opportunity to attempt a STEM challenge
relating to the topic.

Students were required to create a Zen garden
using the information that they had learned in
                                              class and limited supplies.

Students could bring in extra resources
that they would like to decorate their
gardens. Some students went on a
scavenger hunt around the school to
find moss, sticks and rocks to give their
gardens different heights and textures.

Supplied with only sand, paddle pop sticks,
tooth picks, coloured paper, foil and PVA glue,
students had to work in groups to design a
blueprint and then construct a garden.

Sudoku
                     MATHS GAMES
Sudoku is played over a 9x9 grid, divided to 3x3 sub grids called "regions". Sudoku begins with
some of the grid cells already filled with numbers:

The object of Sudoku is to fill the other empty cells with numbers between 1 and 9 (1 number
only in each cell) according the following guidelines:
1. Number can appear only once on each row:

Allowed

Not allowed

2. Number can appear only once on each column:

Allowed Not allowed

3. Number can appear only once on each region:

Allowed Not allowed

A summary of these guidelines would be that a number should appear only once on each row,
column and a region. That's it. You are now ready to solve Sudoku puzzles.

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY
Come and check out the new games in the library at lunchtime. The new games include:
Sushi Go Party, Exploding Kittens, Saboteur, Vadoran Gardens, Coup, Codenames, 5
Minute Dungeon as well other games of Uno, Scrabble and Chess.

                         CHESS REPORT
On Wednesday 29th July the school chess team consisting of Brock Anderson, Sean Morial,
Jayden Christoff and Tyler Gilbey along with reserves Cooper Smith, Oscar Knight, and Zak
Moss competed against Kinross Wolaroi in the third round of the NSW Junior Chess league inter-
school competition.
While the tie was lost all games played were highly competitive with Sean's board two game
lasting almost an hour and half and very entertaining to watch. The final results
saw Jayden come away with a win but losses to Tyler, Brock and Sean in his epic match.

The team and reserves enjoyed playing competitive chess once again and look forward to
competing again next year. Being mainly juniors, the team knows that these matches are great
building blocks to team success in the future. Chess players meet in the Library at Recess on
Tuesdays for practice games. The boards are also available all week during lunchtime for
students to practice this clever sport.

CREATIVE ARTS NEWS
YEAR 8 TO 12
Students have been very busy during the past term creating a wonderful collection of artworks.
These paintings, drawings and sculptures show some of the amazing talent we have here at
CRTHS.
TEN4TEN LEADERS - Canobolas Rural Technology High School
Some of these artworks have been produced
during the `Work From Home’ isolation period last
term. Creativity and imagination is a great way
to keep yourself busy and sane through this
crazy year of uncertainties.

Photography and Digital Imaging News—Semester 1 Report
Year 10 Photography and Digital Imaging worked really hard to complete a unit of work based
on the History of Photography, which included an investigation into traditional modes of
photography, including negatives and photosensitive papers. Students experimented with
pinhole photography and cyanotypes as part of practical activities that complimented the
historical investigation that were studied as part of this unit of work.

Stage 5 and 6 Photography has continued to provide opportunities for students to express
themselves during this very difficult time and we have encouraged all photography students to
continue to take photographs and get out and be creative. If one of your children have an
interest or “eye” for photography they can always come and speak to the CAPA teachers who
will advise them on elective choices for Years 9/10 and 11/12.
Happy Phototaking

The dance group are excited to be attending Dance once again for
school sport, with Mrs Emily Rue at Dance HQ . The group continue to
develop their core skills and are currently working on a Lady Gaga
dance routine. Each week the students continue to amaze me – they are
well mannered, impeccably behaved and demonstrate respect at all
times. Their confidence grows each week.
Students in Years 7 –10 have been participating in a variety of
sports on a Thursday as a part of the whole school sport program
at Canobolas High School. Below are some action shots from our
Ten Pin Bowling and Wentworth Golf Crew. A reminder for all
students to be in full school sports uniform on Thursdays and to
bring their own drink bottle and a hat for outdoor activities.
Year 11 students have the opportunity to purchase a Year 12 jersey for 2021. The
jersey design is below. The jersey is in school colours and has the school crest on the
front and the cost is $75. Although the jersey is not compulsory, it would be great if
students could purchase one as part of the 2021 senior year. If you would like to
purchase a jersey, please complete the order form and return to the front office with
payment by Friday 7th August 2020.

Please note that the nickname is required to be appropriate and will be approved by
the Principal before the order is confirmed. To assist with sizes, students are
encouraged to try on one of the sample sizes available from the PDHPE Staffroom.
After the orders are collated, there will be an approximate turn around date for
delivery of 8 weeks.

                              P&C ASSOCIATION INC.

Dear Parents,

I would like to extend an invitation to all new and existing parents to become a member of the CRTHS
P&C.

The P&C consists of parents who wish to be kept informed of what is happening in the school and who
want to take an active role in helping improve the school for their children. At the meetings we have
informed discussions with the Principal, who keeps us up to date on issues happening in the school.
We also organise fundraising which helps assist with financial support for school projects and
excursions.

The P&C represent the parents of the school and therefore your views and input are of great importance.
If you are unable to attend the meetings you can still become a member of the P&C by making a $2.00
contribution, which will entitle you to receive the minutes of meetings and be kept informed on any
issues that arise.

The P&C meet on the first Wednesday of each month during the school term at 6.30pm. You do not
have to become a member to attend meetings but you will be unable to vote on any issues unless you
are a member.

Membership can be paid at the next P&C meeting or to the front office. If you have any queries, please
leave a message at the office.

Kind Regards
Lyn Furlonger
P & C President 2020
