Registration Information
1. Registration Forms — are found at the back of this brochure. NO PHONE REGISTRATIONS.
2. You may register the following ways:
In Person — Our office is located in the High School. Enter the Community Ed/District Office Doors. Second door
on your left (formerly the District Office).
By Mail — Completed registrations and fees may be mailed to
NL-S Community Education/Youth Services, 101 4th Ave SW, New London, MN 56273
At School — You may send your registration with your child to any of the schools and drop it off with the
receptionist/secretary. Please make sure a completed registration form and fee are included and are sealed in an
envelope marked to NL-S Com Ed/Youth Services. Double check your child’s book bag that night to make sure it
was delivered.
ONLINE—at www.nlscommunityed.com (with a credit card/debit card)
Registrations accepted on a first come basis. Registrations not including course fee will not be considered received.
3. Fees — All checks should be made out to NL-S Community Ed & Youth Services. Checks will be cashed upon receipt.
4. Cancellations — If a class is canceled due to low enrollment you will be notified and a credit will be issued to your
account. If you need to cancel out of a class, notification must be given 7 days prior to the start of class or before the
registration deadline of the class for a credit. A credit will be issued to your account. Cancelations less than 7 days prior (or
after the registration deadline) may mean a forfeited fee or service charge. If refund to a credit/debit card is requested there
will be a minimum $10 service fee.
5. NO Refunds will be given once class starts.
6. Confirmations — Will be by email and only if there is an email on file.
7. Photography Policy—Pictures may be taken during programs. These pictures may be used to promote future Adult/
Youth Programs. By registering and participating in our programs you are giving NLS Community Education permission to
use these photos in news articles and promotions.

Driving Course

attended the 8 hour course then this refresher is for you. Ready to renew you defensive
driving certificate? After attending the initial 8 hour course you are able to renew every 3 years for

Porchfest is a citywide collaboration with the New London Arts and Culture Alliance (NLAA), Little Theatre
Auditorium, the NL Human Rights Commission/Welcoming Committee and the City of New London.
Net proceeds benefit NLAA Porchfest.
NLAA is an artist-led, volunteer-based non-profit dedicated to building community and civic pride through art.
We engage artists, writers, musicians, performers and historians as facilitator, coordinator, collaborator and
co-creator of equity-based art experiences, activities, projects and events.
Nordic Walking! More Energy and Less Stress
Why just walk when you can Nordic Walk? With poles in hand you will
enjoy an all body workout complete with upright, balanced posture,
improved core strength, and a stress busting rhythm all its own. Learn
about the benefits (heart health, posture, weight management, bone
density, less pain, more confidence) and the specifics of the poles,
followed by instruction on basic technique. It’s fun! and you can share it
with friends and family. This class is appropriate for all levels of fitness.
Poles will be available for use during the class and you will be encouraged
to walk at a comfortable pace and distance. Put on your walking shoes and

National Diabetes Prevention Program
The National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) is a collaborative,
community-based, lifestyle change program designed for people with
pre-diabetes. It is based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s curriculum and
National Diabetes Prevention Recognition standards. Hundreds of in-person and online lifestyle
change programs nationwide teach participants to make lasting lifestyle changes, like eating
healthier, adding physical activity into their daily routine, and improving coping skills.
Class Start Dates: This is a yearlong program that meets weekly for 8 weeks, twice a month for 4 months, and
then once a month for the remainder of the year.

Muscular Strength/Range of Movement Classes
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of
exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and
activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for
resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Instructor: Amanda Peterson

Functional Interval Training
F.I.T. Functional Interval Training. Utilizes your own body weight, hand
weights, stability ball, bands, etc. to mimic many motions that you perform
daily. Cardio intervals are alternated with weight training exercises.
Interval training keeps your heart rate up which translates to a boosted
metabolism and a good overall workout. You will not only become stronger
but will get the added benefit of control and balance. FIT: Functional
training teaches the muscles to work together rather than independently;
using your core to hold your body, not relying on a machine to do it for you. Note: Please bring your own

10Driver's Training Classroom
(For MN Drivers Permit/License)
If you are soon to be 15 years of age or older and needing to meet the
requirements from the State of Minnesota for classroom instruction before
taking your permit test, this class is for you. The State of Minnesota requires
that you successfully complete this mandatory class and be registered for a
Behind the Wheel Training Instruction in order to obtain your blue card making
you eligible to take your permit test online or at your local DMV office when you reach the minimum age of 15.
Attendance on ALL days for the entire time is mandatory to receive your blue cards. Students cannot be
late to class. Before signing up for a session make sure your calendar is clear to attend all sessions for their
entire length. We encourage students to take the class within six months or less of their 15th birthday. Priority
will be given to those students who are within 6 months of their birthday. (Any changes to attending a session
once registered will be charged $20 and any cancellations once registered will be charged a $40 cancellation
fee – so please plan ahead.) If your child misses any time during the session they are registered for you may be
subject to a rescheduling fee up to $50. Once you have completed the course, reached a minimum of age 15
and passed your permit test you have to drive with a parent or guardian for a minimum of 50 hours over a period
of no less than 6 months and keep a driving log (15 hours of night driving), complete a six hour Behind the
Wheel course and reach age 16 before taking your driver’s test for licensure. Class Fee includes a $20 non-
refundable registration fee towards your Behind the Wheel Training and your Behind the Wheel Training will be
$260.00 due at time that training starts. (Closer to your 16th birthday) ***Parent Classroom Portion: Parents
attend a 1& 1/2 hour classroom session to learn more about the parents role in teen driving, tips on teaching
your teen to be a better driver, new Minnesota laws and safety information. Parents attendance at class will
reduce the minimum number of mandatory logged driving hours to 40 hours over a period of not less than
6 months. Parent will receive a certificate for completing the class when your child receives their white card.

Behind the Wheel Instruction for Obtaining
Your Driver’s License
If you did not take the classroom portion through NLS you must register to be
on the call list. Once you register we will call close to your 16th birthday to
complete this portion of training before your driving test.
Students who take the Classroom at NL-S (automatically registered)

We encourage students to drive several hours per week with their parents to make
them more comfortable behind the wheel.

Come enjoy music and movement using a variety of instruments and activities! We will be dancing,
singing and doing a craft together. Music offers a great opportunity to socialize and get some wiggles

to help dancers develop and improve skills, confidence and technique. You will learn combinations in jazz, high kick,

dance, high kick skills, advanced leaps and jumps, intermediate and advanced turns, flexibility, choreography and more.
Dancers will also participate in leadership skills activities during their lunch break. Ta taught recreational and competitive
dance at the number one studio in Las Vegas and is currently a dance teacher at Northern Lights Dance Academy (NLDA)
of Frazee. She has worked with MN Dance Teams and UDA dance teams throughout the country. Kiala’s studio elite
dance groups and soloists have won numerous awards including a 2nd place out of 1600 dances. She has won 9 separate

21Summer Beginning Band Camp

Band camp is for ALL NL-S students who will be in the 6th grade band, fall of '22
as well as ALL CCS students who will be in the 5th grade band fall of '22. The
beginning band camp is one of the most exciting times for students each and every
year. This two-week camp is designed for students that are excited to join the band program for the first time.
Each year, we welcome between 70 and 90 students who are taking their first steps in their band journey.
