7. Do you read the NZIOB's fortnightly newsletter, 'News from the Source'? (93
   respondents)

• I’ve been busy, and NZIOB content just seems to focus on in-house awards and patting each other on the
back. Only a scant minority benefit from awards. The focus should be on providing real informative value
across all members. The introduction of CPD webinars sounds like a good move!
8. If you answered Yes or Sometimes to the above question, how would you rate
the 'News from the Source' newsletter? (93 respondents)

18. What suggestions do you have to improve the NZIOB's performance and/or
    membership benefits? (43 respondents)

• Accredited programmed or certified status for membership
• As a registered architect and also an assessor on the NZRAB, I need to keep my NZRAB CPD points up, and
while I am currently well ahead on my actual requirements, it is difficult to also achieve the points for my NZIOB
membership, so need to have my NZRAB points credited to my NZIOB point requirement, and have sent my
points summary to NZIOB for these points to be added to my NZIOB points - can I assume this is still OK
• As per previous comment, only been a member since December 2020, so it's probably too early to make a
    suggestion here.
• Be visible
• Become Chartered
• Can never understand why the higher the grade to more expensive ...
in my opinion the older you get the less readily expendable income relating to work you have
• Can’t’ comment at this stage. I am still finding my way around.
• Carry out a membership vitality survey, as to receiving in dept membership views and opinions. Develop a
strategy that reconnects Branch Committee members with rank and file members by way of personalized
connections and much improved branch communications. Engage more with local and central government and
media entitles (as being the quality Construction industry representative body of choice) that directly connects
them to the NZIOB and diverts these bodies away from connecting with individuals (from within the industry)
who are also NZIOB members and are recognized by the wider Construction industry as being competent
industry practitioners. Increase membership communications significantly and personalize it more.
• CPD in the regions is a struggle. Be good to find a way to assist regional members with this requirement.
• CPD variety is one issue with some more committed structure do enough events to meet our annual
requirements. Keep working on the Comms
• Creation of a resource library / document or depository of industry-based documents, seminar pages and
papers that members can access on-line.
• Decrease event costs.
• Direct entry program
• Do more with the student mentoring programme. I mentored one student last year, which I think benefited both
    of us. Nothing since.
• Fix something that is causing our industry harm.
• Flexibility in workshops locations which allow additional members to attend - for example the building legends
workshop. (I just missed out on the 2nd date, and wondering if it is possible to fit additional attendees?)
• I would like to see the webinars continue in the same manner they were provided over Covid19, I thought
NZIOB did an exceptional job through online platforms during this time and I would hate to see this drop off as it
was extremely engaging and made CPD's accessible. I would also like to see some of the events in the regions
change from the more traditional golf and fishing to more inclusive events taking diversity into account.
• If it isn't broken don't fix it
• Include more students
• Increase profile of the Institute publicly. Educate the industry that NZIOB is pan-industry - increase membership
across all facets of the industry (not just construction companies)
• Increase the chances to register for international Quantity Surveyors. I have 14 years’ experience. But I
recently start working in New Zealand and I can’t get register at NZIQS, because I must work minimum one
    year in New Zealand.
• Make clear what the Benefits are. NZIA / NZRAB offer discounts through partners ie Resene specifiers etc can
NZIOB offer similar. Welfare / Well-being / Stress Assistance (Partners such as Mates in Construction) we
seem to lose far too many of our people to stress and sickness.
• Making events free for members
• More "real life" stories of projects, good and bad, and how issues are dealt with.
• More available online CPD events/courses that can be accessed from the websites members area that will
    contribute to CPD.
• More events.
• More involvement for members outside of Auckland and Christchurch
• More property development content
• More quality CPD webinars and not just awards and ‘legends’ in Christchurch and Auckland
• More site visits, there has been a lack due to Covid
• More social events
• More Study Tours. Yes, i know that Covid 19 has been a barrier to this initiative.
• Much much more networking and site visits. That is the bread and butter of membership.
• Need to have more satellite centres outside the main centres
• Play a greater role in industry issues
• Remember you have members further South than Christchurch. It's not all about the big boys.
• Seminars and CPD events calendar need to increase. Including free to members. Other memberships are
significantly cheaper and have stronger professional development focus.
• Simplify the knowledge, as not everybody is an architect or engineer. It’s good to sometimes strip down the
information to bite size chunks of knowledge.
• Site visit once a month.
• Yearly conference
