President’s Report
Hello Everyone,
The trees are starting to bud, and the frequency of snow flur-
ries is diminishing. These are good signs to get the old cars
out! The weather for Saturday (April 24th) is looking good for
ditch clean-up, or if the weather turns on us, Saturday May 1st
will be the day. I mention this in the May’s Siftings since some
of you will read the online version before May 1st. We are go-
ing to have our first cruise to General Meetings on Thursday
May 13th . Our meeting will be held at Duane Gilleland’s “Hot
Rod Shop” located at 8186 Delta Circle in St. Joseph, MN. If you have not seen his collection, it is
worth seeing. Thanks to Duane and crew for the use his facility for our May meeting. Don’t forget to
bring your own lawn chair. No meal will be provided, but the club will have the Tool Box available. We
will also be selecting cars for the 2022 Pantowner calendar, so if you haven’t already, send your pho-
tos to Darlene Dickinson. Please come early to the meeting with your photos so they can be entered
into the mix prior to membership voting. See Darlene’s notice for more details. We are making pro-
gress towards our annual car show in August. Flyers are now available. We will have our flyer posted
in MSRA’s June 2021 issue of LineChaser. This will give our show a lot of exposure. Bruce is continu-
ing with all car show preparations. As we see it, the only thing that would be a show stopper is if the
State or Benton County shuts down activity at the fairgrounds. Our contract with the county fair
board should include language holding us harmless if a shutdown were to happen. The “Cruisin’ in
2021” events (put on by us and other car clubs in our area) is already in motion. Watch for events by
other clubs we are invited to. As I had noted before, this is a great way to meet and gather with
other clubs in the area. See information that Bob will post in the Siftings. On Thursday May 27th ,
Bruce and I will be meeting with Sartell-St. Stephen Community Education department speaking at
one of their senior citizen events. I have a PowerPoint presentation about our club to share with
them. I am looking forward to doing this event, it is a great way to share what we do as a club. If
anyone knows of an organization that has an interest in hearing about our club, please let me or any
board member know. As a reminder, the Stearns History Museum (located at 235 South 33rd Av. S.
– west of the new CostCo) is having a grand opening to show off their new displays at the end of
May. Consider checking out what they have done to the displays of our Pan Car and the Pan Motor
Company. Remember you can get in free as a Pantowner (show your badge), although they would ap-
preciate a freewill donation. Anyone have a story to share about a project they are working on? If
so, send your story along with photos to Jim Zwilling to get it posted in the Siftings in our “Sifting
Gears” column. It would be great to see what club members are doing. There is no project too big or
too small to share. That’s all I have for now (think summer). Thanks and remember to…….enjoy the
ride!

                                                          Dennis Arntson (aka:) President

Calendar Car Voting We will be voting on the 2022 calendar car entries. Please
bring your picture for submission to the May Membership Meeting . Thank You

Vice Presidents Report
Hi Everyone, It is great to see more & more car show and
swap meet activity as we move into that season. There are a
handful in May and June is actually filling in very well. Of par-
ticular note this month is the show at the St. Cloud Eagles
Club on May 20 th . from 4 P.M. -8 P.M. Make sure you check
out the show and swap listing of events tentatively being
planned. As before I included only the local events with-in a
50/60- mile radius or larger national events I know some of us
typically participate in. I’m also including the list of Cruizin’ In 2021 events that some of the central
Minnesota car clubs are hosing this spring/summer. There were a couple of new clubs added for a
total of 8 this year, so check out the list and hopefully you can do some cruizin’ and show our club
support of this activity. I’m very pleased to announce that Dale and Carol Ann Zika have volunteered
to organize our nursing home activity again this year. I feel this is an important club function and
was very happy Dale and Carol Ann decided to take on arranging these events again. They will be
publishing a schedule so please make sure you participate if you are able. As far as local parades go,
as I said last month some are happening and some are not. We know both the Waite Park and the St.
Joseph Parades are cancelled, but a few others are being planned to still take place. I passed around
a signup sheet for some local parades at the April general meeting and we had some interest so I
currently have our club signed up for the Avon Spunktacular days parade on Saturday evening June
19 th . and the Foley Fun Days parade on Wednesday evening June 23 rd . If you are interested in
participating in either one of these parades, please let me know and I will give you the information.
Also, if you would be available to pull the Pan trailer in either of these parades, please let me know.
It would be great to have our trailer as part of our parade unit to help promote our club and car
show. Again, please keep in mind we are still dealing with the COVID-19 virus around us, so these
events are tentative and what happens in the coming months will decide if we will see them actually
happen. I will continue to provide up-dates on events as I become aware of them. Weather permit-
ting, we will be having our first pre meeting cruise of the year before the May 13th . general
meeting, We will meet at the St. Joe. CentraCare parking lot and leave at 6:00 to give us
time for our drive and arrive earlier to view Duane Gilleland’s collection. So, if it is not raining,
join us for a little more scenic drive to our meeting. That nasty Covid virus is still around us so
please continue to pray for God to watch over our club members and their families. Thanks

Car Show Chairman Report
By Chairman Bruce Theisen No.1

Well, as the old song goes: “Another month closer and deeper
in debt” or something like that. We aren’t quite to the “Pedal
to the Metal “stage yet but hopefully soon. We are moving
ahead with all intentions of having a car show -swap -crafts -
motorcycles - snowmobiles - model cars - Dyno - kids tractor
pull and lots of FUN!! Thanks to Dennis Arnston - and a lot of brain - cell killing by Bob Halliday -
Wendy Theisen - and myself - we condensed the flyer back down and cleaned it up. Dennis gets the
credit for the art work - computer work and arranging. I did pick the color - yaaaa!! Anyway, the
flyers are printed and ready to hand out. We cut the number down as social media is taking over.
So if you need some - they will be at the next meeting. They are wrapped in small packs but if you
don’t need a whole pack - take what you need. It seems like after the show that there was always
thousands left so let’s see. I plan to hold off on the mailing till late May?? To see how the State
mandates rules to curtail our fun. Or as Bob H. Says - let’s just protest because then it’s all legal.
We will find out.
The sponsors are on board and lots of the rentals are locked in. The Ice Arena fee hasn’t been
set , but should be about the same dollars. They meet after I wrote this story. The Fairgrounds
fee hasn’t been given to me but we are also waiting to see what the Lions building will cost. We
could use it for crafts inside swap, eating or just relaxing. Let’s see what rent costs.
The only price increase this year by the club was indoor swap spaces - $10.00. Not a large in-
crease. The T-shirts are done but not picked up as of this writing. They will be for sale at the May
meeting. The design looked neat (of course, my design) but I haven’t seen it printed yet. We will
have a large variety of T’s, tanks, v-necks, sweats and pullovers. Some are very limited so shop ear-
ly, shop often - just like voting!
The dyno is a go as of right now so we are really hoping it helps the gate traffic. The kids tractor
pull will hopefully help get the young crowd excited. Both of these will need some help so if it inter-
ests you get in touch with the chairman. If they provide new excitement they will be worth it. The
Next X car club is still on board to provide some help - hopefully some grunt work too.
Last month I forgot till after I wrote my story to give a shout-out to Larry Moline and Helen
Colberg . Both knew where Gross- Wenstrom Phillips 66 was located. They were on the northwest
corner of 5th Ave So and Division. Across from the old Tenvoordes Ford car lot. They got perma-
nently removed when Highway 23 went to 4 lanes I guess. Stuff like that you had to ask Elmer
Dahl. I think that guy not only knew every business in town but the people that worked there. Miss
his insight!
And now for the chuckle of the month. This is a sign that hangs in my brothers repair
shop: “Calm down mechanic guy! Just here for an oil change. If I wanted to know all the shit wrong
with my car, I’d just turn the radio down,” The reason I chuckle is it happened to me years ago. My
bosses sister -in-law brought her car in cuz it was making noise. It was serious, I got it up on the
hoist and removed the front wheel. Not only were the brakes gone , but the rotors were worn com-
pletely away. I asked her if she ever noticed. She replied: “Yup, many months ago. As the noise got
louder I just cranked the radio up louder. It would go away.” I said, Ya, but your brakes went away,
too. Everything is shot! She looked surprised. Oh well. With that - signing off - stay warm - it
will change
