Welcome
A welcome from the Phillip Island Nature Parks Chief
Executive Officer, Catherine Basterfield.
Womin jeka (Welcome) from Phillip Island Nature Parks
CEO Catherine Basterfield
We are extremely proud to share our Island home with you and showcase its natural
beauty, special wildlife and world-class visitor experiences. We pay our respects to
Phillip Island’s Traditional Custodians, the Bunurong People, and are committed to
our shared journey of understanding and caring for Country together.

The Nature Parks team takes the responsibility of protecting our island haven very
seriously - ensuring we can contribute to Victoria’s biodiversity through ongoing
management and restoring threatened species. We value the relationships we
have with our partners in helping us to achieve our conservation goals. I would
encourage you to lend your support to this important symposium which provides
an invaluable forum for knowledge sharing and making a real difference to island Catherine Basterfield
landscapes and their people across our region. CEO, Phillip Island Nature Parks

2021 THEME
Partnering for land,
sea and coast
Partnering for land, sea and coast has
been selected to recognise the significance
of partnerships that effectively manage
the natural and cultural values of islands,
surrounding seas and coasts.
It seeks to highlight the leading role of Traditional
Custodians and Community Groups in island, sea and
coastal management. Through joint efforts and shared
understanding the environmental, cultural, social,
and economic values of islands can be protected.

The ISLAND ARKS SYMPOSIUM VII brings together
scientists, researchers, conservationists, environmentalists
and experts in their field to present a symposium
like no other.

PARTNERING FOR LAND, SEA AND COAST - 6-10 September 2021 Millowl (Phillip Island), Victoria, Australia
OUR UNITED PURPOSE
The Island Arks Symposium VII is a well-recognised
event around Australia, New Zealand and other

The symposium is a targeted opportunity for Ranger teams, Traditional
Custodians, community groups, practitioners, policy makers and scientists
to explore the challenges, pathways and solutions to forging successful
partnerships to manage island systems, and examine how the resilience of
island systems can be enhanced in a changing world.

Millowl (Phillip Island) will host the 2021 Symposium, bringing great
opportunity to showcase local conservation, tourism and wildlife
