2Access to Devices and Internet
Chromebooks are available to all students in grades K-12 for use at home. Below please find
the action steps related to providing home access to devices and internet:
Each building is responsible for ensuring that we’ve made contact with each family and
determining their needs moving forward. We anticipate that some families will continue to need
paper/pencil resources although our goal is that the majority of our families will be able to
access online at-home learning.
How do we plan to connect with families that have not yet responded?
● Individualized communication
○ Phone calls
○ Home visits (administrators)
What is our distribution plan for families that still need Chromebooks?
● All buildings distributed Chromebooks from March 20th - March 27th
● Starting March 30th: Parents can contact buildings to arrange a pick-up time
● Buildings will determine which students do not have devices and make contact with
households
What is our plan for families that do not have internet (not available)?
● GASD will explore providing hotspots
● Families will be given phone number for free internet from Spectrum on GASD website
● Families should check with their cellular provider for free hotspots/increased data
Communication Tools
● Asynchronous Communication Tools
Please continue to document parent/guardian communication in the eSchool phone journal
○ Phone
■ If you choose to use a personal phone to communicate with families,
please dial ‘ * 6 7’ to block your number.
■ You may check your school voicemail from home by calling your school
phone number, entering the extension ‘6999’ and following the prompts.
■ You may also use google chat through your GASD email account to make
“restricted” phone calls.
3○ E-mail
○ GASD Website
○ GASD Facebook Page
○ Google Classroom
● Notification Tools
○ School Messenger
■ Robocalls
■ Emails
■ Text Messages
● Synchronous Video/Web Conferencing Tools
○ Google Hangouts Meet: as of now, used for colleague collaboration. In the
future, Google Hangouts Meet may be used with students pending updates from
Google.
○ Teletherapy for Related Services: please see page 13 for specific information
Due to confidentiality, we highly encourage all staff to use a district-issued laptop/Chromebook
instead of a personal device.
Grading
As of April 1st, we are providing ‘At Home’ Teaching and Learning with feedback to students.
We are not grading students at this time, however, this may change pending guidance from the
New York State Education Department.
In Google Classroom please ensure that you check ‘ungraded’ for any new assignments in the
classwork tab. If at some point we get updated guidance regarding grading from NYSED this
may change.
