Principal’s Greetings 校长前言
In August, we celebrated our 51st National Day and our first Olympic Gold medal brought home by
Joseph Isaac Schooling. Much has been reported on Schooling’s glorious achievements and the hard work
he had put in to achieve this pinnacle of success. The stories about his quest for Olympic gold are inspiring,
and we hope that our students will emulate his success and strive to do their best in all their
undertakings. On 22 August 2016, we were deeply saddened by the passing on of our former President
Mr S. R. Nathan. Mr Nathan was one who never said no when called to serve, no matter how small or how
big the task. We urge all students to learn from him to persevere, work hard and believe in themselves.
As a school, we are heartened that our innovative teaching and learning strategies were featured
during the recent Mother Tongue Languages Symposium held on 20 August at Suntec Singapore
International Convention and Exhibition Centre. In recent years, Pei Chun has worked on leveraging
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Media Studies to provide more applied learning
experiences for our students. This has in turn helped develop 21st century competencies in our students
through authentic contexts and greatly enhanced their learning in school.
Coming up soon, will be our Teachers’ Day Celebration on 1 September 2016. Teachers play a
critical role in educating and shaping the lives of our children. We are touched by the enthusiasm shown
by many students who have come forth to put up performances to show their appreciation to their
teachers on that day. The Mid-Autumn Festival will be celebrated on 14 September 2016 during curricular
hours to encourage full participation from all students. Through activities such as lantern-riddles, paper-
cutting, clay-modelling, chopstick-painting and lantern-making, we hope our students will learn more
about the Chinese culture and appreciate harmony and family unity during this joyful occasion. It leaves
me now to wish all of you an enjoyable September break.

UPCOMING EVENTS
TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS
Teachers’ Day is a special day set aside to pay tribute to our
educators for their dedicated service in nurturing the next
generation. There will be no school on 2 September 2016. The
school will be celebrating this special occasion on 1 September 2016. Pupils will be putting up
performances to showcase their talents and express their appreciation to their teachers. We
understand that many students will take this opportunity to thank their teachers and make them feel
appreciated on this special day. Telling their teachers how much they appreciate them or giving them
handmade cards with notes of affirmation are some simple but meaningful ways students can consider
to express their appreciation to their teachers.

nationhood, rapid urban development and beyond.

Time” to bond with your child and discover the stories of
our people, places and events through the Jubilee Walk? You and your child can learn about our heritage
and connect the past, present and future of our Singapore Story through fun activities in the ‘Jubilee Walk

PSLE
How time flies! Our P6 students are now into the last lap of their preparations for
the PSLE. While we understand that they are working very hard to achieve their
goals, their well-being is of utmost importance to us. A five to ten-minute break
for every thirty minutes of revision may help them achieve more. Regular exercise can also help to
reduce anxiety levels. Let us, parents and school, continue to support and encourage them.
