Principal's Message - Pinewood Primary School
3rd June 2021
                                                       Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,
CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE
Congratulations to students, teachers, parents and carers for making such a successful transition to the Remote
Learning platform. I have had the privilege of working with some students on site this week as they confidently
navigate their way between Webex sessions and the Seesaw platform.
On behalf of the students, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our teachers and teacher aides for the
commitment they have made to the education of students at the school, by providing students with high
quality and engaging daily teaching and learning sessions during this Remote Learning period. Together, we will
get through this current challenge.

GREAT INTERVIEW - YEAR ONE STUDENTS
Whilst on site on Wednesday, some Year 1 students, who were attending the onsite program, interviewed me
about their research topic, ‘What school was like in the olden days?’
The students looked at me in total disbelief when I told them there were no TV’s in classrooms, nor iPads or
Laptops, no apps or email, nor air conditioners or carpets on the floor to sit on. We discussed analogue time
(reading clock face time) as there were only watches and clocks to tell the time by, there was no digital time
available as there is now on a mobile phone or alarm clocks, as this technology came later. The idea that people
lived in a house without a play station, a dishwasher or a microwave during those days just bewildered some of
them. It was a most enjoyable interview…. Great interviewing Year 1 students! How quickly life has changed for
students both at school and at home with the advances of technology…

STUDENT REPORTS AND THREE WAY INTERVIEWS
Student Reports for Semester One will be distributed electronically on Friday 18 June (Week 9). Three Way
Conferences (teacher, parent and student) will occur during Week 10 of this term. The timing and nature of
these will be based on the updated DET advice closer to the time.

EXCURSIONS POSTPONED
Due to the current Circuit Breaker Lockdown restrictions, the school has postponed the Prep excursion to the
Farm and the Year 2 excursion to Werribee Zoo. Both of these excursions will be rescheduled for term 3.

PREP ENROLMENTS - 2022
We are currently enrolling Prep students for 2022. If you are a parent at our school and have a younger sibling
to enrol for next year, please download an enrolment form from the website and return it to the school, or see
Mrs Kelly Douglas or Ms Simone Shoppe at our school office for an enrolment form as soon as you can.
Our transition into Prep program will commence in the second half of the year with visits to the school in Term
4 for next year’s prep children and a comprehensive parent information session.

Bonjour, Pinewood Primary School community. I hope you are all coping well in supporting your
children’s learning from home. I would like to encourage you to allow your children to complete the
remote French activities. I made sure that all the lessons require no parental support, except for some
Prep students that will need help entering my quizzes. Every Seesaw French lesson comes with clear
written and audio instructions. Many also include a video tutorial showing each step that the children
will need to take to be successful. The feedback from all the children that submitted their work so far
this week was that they enjoyed very much remote French. The lessons are full of games, quizzes and
funny videos. The only challenge is to make sure the children are reading and listening or
watching the instructional videos carefully to the end. The main issue that most had this
week was accessing the links included in the lesson. What they need to do is click to the
symbol looking like this, located to the left of the image of the linked resource:

Our school subscribes to 2 online language learning platforms: Linguascope and Languagenut. The
children are welcome to use those any time they like, using their usernames and passwords.
Here is a list with some useful websites and apps that can help your children practise their French at
home.
 Linguascope is a very enjoyable platform that includes a multitude of mini apps. It works as a
website as well as a series of tablet apps. The most useful apps for our students are Linguascope
Elementary, Linguascope Beginner and Linguascope Lingua League. Right now, years 1-6 should be
able to use it. It can also be available to preps with a little login support for now. Later in the year
they should be able to use it independently. Our school is a subscriber and has the same login for
       all the students.
       Username: pinewoodps
       Password: french
       https://www.linguascope.com/default.htm

 Our school is a subscriber to Languagenut, a learning platform that works as a website as well as
an app. It is suitable for years 3-6, therefore all our students in those year levels have an individual
login and password. Your children can use their details to login at home. The app is free to
download from the app store, but your children will need to enter their login details
in order to complete the fun learning activities. If you need another copy, please
contact me, the classroom teachers or our IT department. This is the website:
      https://www.languagenut.com/en-au/

 Languages Online is a free app developed by the Department of Education and
suitable for students in years 3-6.
      https://www.education.vic.gov.au/languagesonline/french/french.htm

 Duo Kids is a free app suitable for the years Prep-6.

 Tiny Cards is another free app that complements Duo Kids and can be used by
      Preps - Year 6.

Hoping that your children will enjoy practising their French,

Meilleures voeux,
Madame Vinga

Please Welcome our New Co-Coordinator Stephanie Voon!
We are so excited to welcome our new Co-Coordinator to the OSHClub team! Steph has just
recently started with us and she has been loving getting to know all of your wonderful children.
Always up for a chat, please feel free to stick around at Drop-Off or Pick-Up times if you would like
to have a little chat with Steph!

   A bit about Steph:
 I am currently studying to become a Primary School Teacher.
 I greatly value trust, honesty, and mutual respect.
 I like to maintain a friendly presence and positive attitude that I
hope radiates to all those around me.
 I love spending my weekends outdoors, finding a new hiking
trail, or catching up with family and friends.

   Medical Management:
So we can provide the best and safest care, it is important that you
inform the service if your child has an identified dietary or health
care need, allergy or relevant medical condition diagnosed by a medical practitioner. Please ensure
medication and medical forms are up to date at the service, however, we will also inform you of
close to expiring medication and medical forms as early as we can!

Looking forward to seeing all our children back at OSHClub once lockdown ends!
