CARessentials CARessentials Small ways to save big on tyres. Five easy tips to get the most out of your car’s tyres and maximise their lifespan. Tyres play a huge role in ensuring the performance of your car. That’s why choosing the best tyres is essential, as well as taking proper care of them. The good news is, tyre maintenance is a simple affair. Follow these quick tips to save big by prolonging the life of your car’s tyres while getting the most from them. Keep up the pressure Wrongly-inflated tyres not only wear out faster, they offer less grip for roadholding and can increase fuel consumption. Air seeps out of tyres slowly (at 1-2 psi per month), so it’s important to check the pressures at least once a month. Look out for the label that tells you what pressures to use: it’s usually on the inside of the fuel filler cap, or on the driver-side door pillar. Regular rotation rules All four tyres wear at different rates, so it’s essential to rotate them every 5,000 km to even out the wear. This helps to keep them performing well and safely, minimising road noise issues from worn tyre treads. Simply take your car to any Mercedes-Benz Drive-in Tyre and Battery Shops with no appointment needed, and our certified technicians will assist you. It also gives them the chance to check for abnormal wear, which could point to other problems in your car’s suspension. Be aligned If your car pulls strongly to one side or requires you to make constant steering corrections even on straight roads, you might be facing signs of alignment trouble. This not only affects roadholding, but also causes your tyres to wear out quicker. Perfect alignment is possible when you pay attention to the details, getting tiny adjustments just right. Rest assured that our Mercedes-Benz Authorised Service Centers are equipped with accurate and most up-to-date specifications for your car from the factory, as well as state-of-the-art computerised laser wheel alignment machines. Some models with special features, such as Active Body Control or AIRMATIC, also require specialised tools and software to have their wheel alignments adjusted. It’s best to leave it to the experts in order to avoid any potential damage to the steering system. Stay on point with Nitrogen Nitrogen inflation helps to keep your car’s tyre pressures constant, more stable over time, and prevents other problems such as oxidation. The good news is, Mercedes-Benz Drive-in Tyre and Battery Shops offer nitrogen filling, so taking your car to any one of them is an easy way to benefit from using this inert gas. Keep your distance from potholes Make sure to stay away from potholes as these can damage your car’s suspension components, wheels and tyres. The best way to avoid potholes and other obstacles is to keep your eyes peeled. Watch the car in front of you for any swerving movement, as the driver might be steering around something. Maintaining a safe distance also helps to provide a better view of the road ahead.
