The MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE ecosystem, was founded in 2013 at MEDICA, the world´s largest medical trade
show with more than 120,000 visitors and 5,500 exhibitors. The conference has been THE highlight of MEDICA for the past eight
years and will once again be held during MEDICA 2021. In 2016, the worldwide hotspot for innovation and networking in sports

Prof. Dr. med. Wilhelm Bloch Speaker
Prof. Dr. med. Wilhelm Bloch is a professor at the German Sport University Cologne and the head of
the Department of Molecular and Cellular Sport Medicine at the Institute of Cardiovascular Research
and Sport Medicine. A recipient of the venia legendi for anatomy and cell biology, University of Cologne
2000 (best habilitation 2000 at the medical faculty), he derived the additional membership of the
Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne 2005. He has served as chairman of the scientific board
and Vice President of the German Sports Medicine Society DGSP from 2011-2018, and a member of
the Scientific Committee of the European College of Sport Science from 2012-2016. Since 2020 he is
editor in chief of the journal “Translational Medicine and Exercise Prescription”.
Dr. Chris Castel Speaker
Dr. Chris Castel received his PhD at Showa University in Tokyo, Japan in Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation Research. His expertise is in the development, regulatory approval and
commercialization of therapeutic medical devices for physical medicine, rehabilitation, and wound
healing. His products and services were deployed in over 6,000 post-acute care facilities and provided
technologies for pain management, stroke recovery, wound care, and incontinence management. His
new venture, CareWear, develops patient-oriented therapeutic wearables which use printed light and
ultrasonic substrates. Dr. Castel holds numerous patents and has published extensively. He was one
of the first researchers during the 1980s to publish the effects of infrared and red light on collagen
synthesis and has spent his career developing new technologies to treat pain and accelerate healing.
Prof. Dr. Alexander Ferrauti Speaker
Prof. Dr. Alexander Ferrauti is full professor for Training Science at the Faculty of Sports Science at
the Ruhr University of Bochum (Germany). He is the head of the Department of Training and Exercise
Science, president elect of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS), former dean of the faculty
and scientific consultant of the German Tennis Federation. His special working fields are training,
testing and recovery as well as energy metabolism in team and racket sports. He published numerous
papers and textbooks related to applied training science. He has sports practical experiences as an
A Level Tennis Coach.
Pedro Gomes Speaker
Pedro has a MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in
Germany. He joined PLUX in 2015 and has since then played an active role in company’s Product
Management, with the drive to identify the needs of researchers to built versatile biosignal solutions
for almost any researcher’s need. In addition, his role at PLUX supports active research projects in
sports science and physical rehabilitation to develop computer-guided training and therapy systems.

Dr. med. Lutz Graumann is a specialist in Sports Medicine, Nutrition and Chirotherapy with focus on
performance enhancement. He is President of the International Association of Performance Medicine,
founder of Sportmedizin Rosenheim and Quest Vitality, head of education at Blackroll, author of
the bestselling books „REGENERATION“, “Functional Fascial Training with Blackroll” and „GET FIT
TO RUN“, and lecturer at the German Armed Forces Leadership Academy in Hamburg. From 2015
till 2021 he was team physican and Chief Medical Officer for the German Icehockey Federation. He
integrates sports and military medicine and cutting-edge technology to create data based movement,
nutrition, recovery and mindset strategies for work and play.

Thore Haag worked as head of sports science at the back Institute of Schoen Clinic Munich under Dr Christian Schneider, during his PhD in training science at the Technical University of Munich and his activity as a trainer, athlete, analyst and scout in the German Volleyball Bundesliga. Together they conducted several studies focussing on back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders. Since 2017 he is head of the sports therapy of the Orthopaedic Center Theresie. In 2020 he became CEO of Benefit Service Deutschland GmbH, a medical product company producing low-energy shockwave devices for whole-body regeneration in medicine and sports. At the end of 2020 Christian and Thore published their first book together: “the fitness docs”, where they provide valuable exercises for everybody’s daily minor ailments. Dr. med. Timo Hinrichs Speaker Dr. med. Timo Hinrichs is Deputy Head of Rehabilitative and Regenerative Sports Medicine and senior consultant of the Sports Medicine Outpatient Clinic at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health, University of Basel, Switzerland. He holds national board certifications in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and in Sports Medicine. His research focus is on age and ageing with special interests in the age-related decline of physical function and mobility; the complex relationships between chronic disease, function, activities and environmental factors; methods of assessment of functional status; the benefits of physical activity and structured exercise; and the implementation of mobility assessments and physical activity programs for older adults in primary health care. Prof. Dr. Michael Kellmann Speaker Prof. Dr. Michael Kellmann has appeared in over 130 peer reviewed articles. Michael also authored the Recovery-Stress Questionnaire for Athletes (with Wolfgang Kallus). His recent book „Sport, Recovery and Performance: Interdisciplinary Insights” (edited by Jürgen Beckmann and Michael) was published in 2018. The manual „Recovery and Stress in Sport: A Manual for Testing and Assessment” (co-authored) by Sarah Kölling, describes the tool development on monitoring stress and recovery in sports. In his applied work, Michael has consulted with and conducted research for professional sport clubs and organisations in Australia, Canada, and Germany. Prof. Dr. med. The product is already validated by market leaders and users in Germany and Poland. Lena Mikulic Speaker
Lena Mikulic, born 2000, currently lives in Ravensburg near Lake Constance with her older brother
Jonas, her parents and her dog Kylie. She has been doing Karate for more than 14 years, but up on
the age at 11, she has been doing it as a competitive sport. During her career, the most significant
achievements have been the nomination for the European Championships, vice German champion
and lots of more rankings in national and international competitions. She has graduated from high
school in 2019 and is studying communication and economics at the University. Due to a COVID
infection in November 2020, she is still struggling with long-term health issues.
Dr. med. Theodora Papadopoulou Speaker
Dr. med. Theodora Papadopoulou, MD, BSc, PGDip, MSc, PhD, FEBSM is a Consultant in Sport and
Exercise Medicine and an orthopaedic surgeon. She is the Lead Consultant for Hip and Groin section,
and for the Military Hip Rehabilitation Outcome Study at the UK Defence Medical Rehabilitation
Centre, Stanford Hall. Since 1998, she has been a visiting lecturer for a range of Universities. She is
the Secretary of the Development Commission of the FIMS; the Secretary General of the European
Federation of Sport Medicine Associations; and Executive Board Member of the British Association
of Sport and Exercise Medicine. She has also worked for various sports events, including Olympics,
Paralympics and Special Olympics. She is the Doctor for the International Ultramarathon Spartathlon
and the British Spartathlon team. Dr Papadopoulou has authored numerous papers in scientific
journals, is a frequent conference speaker, and was the chair of the BASEM Conference 2019/20.
Dr. Caroline Pautard Speaker
Dr. Caroline Pautard holds a PhD in Nuclear Physics applied to medicine and is an instrumentation
and electrical engineer. Before starting the Blueback adventure, Caroline worked for several years
in the medical device industry as International Product Manager, managing the transitions between
R&D and marketing teams in companies like IBA GmbH (Radiation Therapy Equipment) or Carestream
Dental LLC (Dental Imaging Equipment). After a role as Project Manager to develop new healthcare
businesses for a French-based subsidiary of Canon, Caroline worked as a Technology Transfer officer
in France: working with research laboratories to secure their IP, and dealing with image and signal
processing oriented companies to help them implement innovation developed by the researchers
into their products. Today, she is managing the R&D within Blueback, and is responsible for the
scientific collaborations.
Romain Peronnier Speaker
Romain Peronnier has over 10 years of experience in international project management and
manufacturing engineering in the medical device industry. He is the Senior Industrial Project Manager
at PKvitality, an advanced bio-wearable company currently working on its innovative Skin Taste®
technology. Romain is in charge of the development and industrialization of the manufacturing of
the K’watch. The K’Watch, is a smartwatch providing a painless and discrete Continuous Glucose
Monitoring (CGM) device. This technology will enable a precise and continuous monitoring of systemic
glucose level anytime and anywhere.
Prof. Dr. Yannis Pitsiladis Speaker
Prof. Dr. Yannis Pitsiladis has an established history of research into the importance of lifestyle and
genetics for human health and performance. Following 15 years at the University of Glasgow, where
he created the largest known athletes DNA biobank, he was appointed Professor of Sport and Exercise
Science at the University of Brighton in 2013. Research priority is the application of “omics” (i.e. genomics
and transcriptomics) to the detection of drugs in sport with particular reference to recombinant human
erythropoietin, blood doping and testosterone. His most recent research is funded by the World Anti-
Doping Agency (WADA), he is a member of the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission, Chair of the
Scientific Commission of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), past member of WADA’s
Prohibited List Expert Group and a Fellow of the ACSM. He has published +180 peer-reviewed papers and
books and has featured in numerous research documentaries (e.g. ESPN, BBC, NHK Japan, CNBC).

Dr. Claus Reinsberger, MD PhD, finished a residency in Neurology in Zuerich (Swiss Epilepsy Center) and Wuerzburg (University Hospital) before he became a fellow in Clinical Neurophysiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Harvard Medical School (HMS), Boston. He worked as Associate Neurologist at BWH and Assistant Professor at HMS before he became Professor and Chair of Sportsmedicine at Paderborn University. He is still an appointed part-time lecturer at HMS. His major scientific interests are neurophysiological and neuroimaging aspects of performance and concussion, as well as the role of sports and physical exercise in the treatment of neurological diseases (especially epilepsy). Dr. med. Christopher Schneeweis Speaker Dr. med. Christopher Schneeweis studied Medicine in Gießen/Germany and received his medical degree in 2006. He was trained in internal medicine and cardiology at the German Heart Institute/ Charité Berlin/Germany, where he developed his special interest in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. The field of CMR has been his main clinical and scientifical interest for more than 11 years. In the last years he worked as senior consultant at a hospital in Cologne. He developed and established there the cardiovascular imaging program with CMR and CT. In 2021, he started his own practice called “Herz-MRT Rheinland”, dedicated exclusively to CMR. Dr. med. Christian Schneider Speaker & Expert Committee Dr. med. Christian Schneider, MD, orthopedic surgeon and specialist in sports medicine, head of Orthopedic Center Theresie in Munich, Medical Expert Committee of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). Dr. Schneider is chairman and board member of several associations, including the German Physicians Association (Verbandsärzte Deutschland e.V.), GOTS (German Society for Orthopedic-Traumatologic Sports Medicine), as well as International Medical Commission Bobsleigh/Skeleton (IBSF, IOC). He is chief physician for the German Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Luge Organization, and Head of DOSB sports physiotherapy. Dr. Schneider works as consultant of the Olympic Base Camp Bavaria. He is part of the olympic medical staff since Torino 2006. He also acted as advisor and consultant for several research projects regarding back pain. He has published several papers and books and is medical advisor to different publishing houses. Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Steinacker Speaker Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Steinacker, Dr h.c., FACSM, FECSS, is Professor at Ulm University and head of the division of Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine. The division provides outpatient care in cardiology and sports medicine, rehabilitation services for cardiac and cancer patients, a physiology and performance center for top athletes, and a molecular muscle biology laboratory. He was international rower from 1973-84, team doctor of German rowing since 1989, and member of International Rowing Federation (FISA) Sports Medicine Commission since 2000 (since 2017 Chair). Among others, he is Chair of Exercise is Medicine Europe, Chief Editor of the German Journal of Sports Medicine, and vice chair of the Scientific Committee of the German Society of Sports Medicine. He has published 301 original and review papers in peer reviewed journals and is editor of 13 books or special editions. Dr. med. Geoffrey Wandji Speaker Dr. med. Geoffrey Wandji specialized in Sports medicine, committed practitioner and tech enthusiast, Geoffrey WANDJI has built a solid experience in supporting both amateur and professional athletes (French national teams). Prof. Dr. med. Bernd Wolfarth Speaker
Prof. Dr. med. Bernd Wolfarth is director at the Department of Sports Medicine at the Humboldt
University and the Charité University Medicine Berlin. After his medical studies in Freiburg, and 10
years as a deputy chief at the Department of Sports Medicine at the Technical University Munich he
moved in 2014 to his current position in Berlin. Prof. Dr. Wolfarth is head physician of the German

the German Olympic team. He served as the head physician for the German Olympic Team in the
Vancouver 2010, London 2012 and Sotchi 2014 Olympic Games and Tokyo 2020. Since 2011 he is chair
of the medical expert committee of the German Olympic Sports Federation.
Associate Prof. Dr. med. Sanjay Weber-Spickschen Speaker
Associate Prof. Dr. med. Sanjay Weber-Spickschen is head of sports medicine at the Paracelsus Clinic
Bremen. He accompanied more than 250 national team athletes from various sports as the responsible
sports orthopedist at the Lower Saxony Olympic Training Center for the past six years. At the same
time, he worked at the Hannover Medical School as a senior physician in trauma surgery for the area
of knee surgery. In addition to his new occupation as chief physician in sports medicine, Dr. Weber-
Spickschen will continue to serve as team physician for the German national athletics team, which
he most recently cared for at the World Championships in Doha and Tokyo. In addition, Dr. Weber-
Spickschen has been the team physician for the Lower Saxony Football Association for ten years.
Prof. Dr. Bettina Wollesen Speaker
Prof. Dr. Bettina Wollesen (Human Movement Scientist) developed within her cross-disciplinary
research of the past ten years methods and measurements to evaluate training interventions
that reduce cognitive-motor interference (CMI) while walking in daily situations with the focus on
biomechanics at the University of Hamburg. Within her work on CMI she got an expertise about the
taxonomy of different cognitive-motor task settings and their influence on motor performance. She
also integrated her knowledge into framework for understanding CMI in technology development.
Moreover, she conducted health promotion programs at the workplace, for example with a special
focus on ergonomics and technical development eg. for stress reduction. In addition to that she is
the Vize President of the German Sports Science Association (dvs) responsible for the health resort.
Prof. Dr. med. Cindy Lin Expert Committee
Prof. Dr. med. Cindy Lin, MD is a Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Clinical
Assistant Professor at University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle, WA USA. She is an Exercise
is Medicine (EIM) Emerging Leader as well as a member of the EIM Clinical Practice Committee for
the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). She is Associate Editor of PM&R Journal. She
practiced at the Changi Sports Medicine Centre, Singapore prior to joining University of Washington.
She has been involved in national and international sporting event coverage as well as published
journal articles and book chapters related to sports and exercise medicine.
Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Reer Scientific Head of Program & Expert Committee
Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Reer is the Secretary General of the German Sports Medicine Association
DGSP (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sportmedizin und Prävention) and Deputy Director of exercise
science of Hamburg University, Germany. He is member of the DGSP, American College of Sports
Medicine, the European College of Sport Science and Hamburg Sports Medicine Association. Focus
of his research is on spiroergometry of swimmers in performance diagnostics, exercise therapies
for different disease patterns. In 2000, he won the International Science Award (ICSSPE) in Clinical
Sciences in Brisbane, Australia.

Prof. Dr. Ansgar Schwirtz, Since 2002, Prof. Dr. Schwirtz is professor for biomechanics in Sports
at the Technial Univerity Munich. He has been Dean of the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences
there since October 2013. After completing his postgraduate and doctoral studies at the DSHS in
Cologne, Schwirtz received his doctorate in “Movement Technology and Muscular Coordination in
Cross-Country Skiing”. Since 2019 he is the president of DVS, the german association for sport
science.
Christian Stammel Expert Committee
Christian Stammel is founder and CEO of WT Wearable Technologies Group and Navispace AG. Born
in 1969, he successfully enables innovation and cooperation in the Internet of Things and wearables
sector. Christian had already founded his first IT company during his university years, which went
public in 2000. He is one of the digital pioneers with a track record of over 20 years in IoT and has
created some world´s firsts including an ECG shirt in 2002. He advises some of the biggest tech
companies and organizes with his teams important networking platforms in the US, Europe, Asia and
