Registration Appointments
All students are assigned a “Registration Appointment” in order
to register for classes each semester via Student Services Online
(SSOL). Your Registration Appointment times will be viewable in
SSOL beginning the week of 12/24 by clicking “Reg Appts” in
the menu on the left side of the screen. The FIRST appointment
time listed is the most important, as it indicates the FIRST time
you have access to the registration system.

Wait Lists
CSSW utilizes a wait list function for all courses. Students will be
able to join a wait list for desired courses that are full. Students
will be admitted from the wait list as space becomes available in
the course based on the date and time-stamp of their initial
placement on the wait list. Once a student has been admitted to
the course, they will be notified that course registration has
been successful and removed from the wait list.

Useful guidelines for successful course
              registration EVERY term
• Ultimately, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that you are enrolling in all of the classes
needed to fulfill your degree requirements.

• You may only register during your scheduled appointment times. The registration period
will continue daily from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. weekdays through Friday, Feb. 1st . Note:
There are no appointment times on weekends or holidays.

• The Spring 2019 Directory of Classes (DOC) is still a work in progress and is subject to
change up until the first day of classes. Please check it regularly.

• You can view the LMSW & LCSW Information guide for courses approved for clinical
    licensure.

• Courses taken outside of CSSW to satisfy a minor or to count for elective credit must be
first approved by the Office of Student Services via submission of the Cross-Registration
Course Approval Form. Not all graduate-level courses offered at other CU schools are
deemed appropriate as CSSW electives or minor courses.
Useful guidelines for successful course
          registration every term (con’t)
• Faculty CANNOT authorize your enrollment into a course that is full. In other words, prior
faculty approval does not permit you to be over-enrolled in a course that has reached its
maximum enrollment. (Our suggestion is to check the enrollment of the class you want
to take on a daily basis.)

• You may always consult with your academic advisor or staff in the Office of Advising to
ensure that you are registering for your required classes.

• As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact
    swstudentservices@columbia.edu

• ONLINE sections of courses are designated by the following: the letter 'D' in the Section
number and the word "online" in the course title and/or NOTES section.

• Residential students WILL NOT be permitted to register for online courses during the
upcoming registration period as we must ensure that all Online Campus (OLC) students
are accommodated. Any remaining space will be made available prior to the end of the
add/drop period. Students will be notified via email when this option is available.

CSSW Statistics Requirement
Students may fulfill this requirement in ONE of two ways:

OPTION 1: Pass the Statistics Waiver Exam:

• Please follow the link below to register for the waiver exams that
will be administered Friday, 1/18/2019. Note that this exam is
OPTIONAL and offered at NO ADDITIONAL COST. The exams are
only offered ONLINE and the minimum passing score is 80%.
   – Spring 2019 Waiver Exam Registration Form (IMPORTANT: You
must utilize your Admissions Application Login Information to
access this form, NOT your Columbia UNI and Password. If you
have forgotten these credentials, please click "Forgot your
      Password" on the login page.)
CSSW Statistics Requirement
OPTION 2: Complete T6505 Introduction to Statistics (5-week course):

• All students are required to complete this 0-credit course prior to their second
year of study. In the course, students acquire the language of statistics and learn
the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics. The emphasis of the course is
on a conceptual understanding of basic concepts to aid in interpretation.
Specific topics include descriptive statistics, standard errors, type I and type II
errors, t-test, chi-square, and analysis of variance.

• Students have the option to take either one of the synchronous (live; online)
sections being offered or the asynchronous section, which allows students to
complete the course via pre-recorded lectures and embedded quizzes. Not sure
which option is right for you? (Login requires your Columbia UNI and password.)
Please follow the link for more information about the two versions of the
  course.

                     registration appointments.

                  4. We will always make sure
that you have a seat in a
                     required class. (Caution: It
                     may not be your first
                     choice.)

                  5. Read your emails!
