Palm Sunday RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM CHURCH OF THE HOLY FAMILY Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before He was crucified. Palm Sunday is known as such because the faithful will often receive palm fronds which they use to participate in the reenactment of Christ's arrival in Jerusalem. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey, and to the lavish praise of the townspeople who threw clothes, or possibly palms or small branches, in front of him as a sign of homage. This was a customary practice for people of great respect. Palm branches are widely recognized symbol of peace and victory, hence their preferred use on Palm Sunday. Video for Parents: Early childhood activity : D Y I Your Own Palm Branches In commemoration of the Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, branches from the yard could be carried in procession throughout your yard or nearby door space. Palm Sunday Readings in English : You can sing or play a hymn praising Christ our Lord and King along the way, such as the traditional “All Glory, Laud and Honor”. No need to be quiet about it; when Jesus was told to silence the crowds on the first Palm Sunday End your procession at home altar, where you can reflect upon the passion narrative before you attend Mass.

Holy Thursday is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when he
established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. It also
commemorates His institution of the priesthood.
Jesus celebrated the dinner as a Passover feast. Christ would fulfill His role as the Christian
victim of the Passover for all to be saved by His final sacrifice.
The Last Supper was the final meal Jesus shared with his Disciples in Jerusalem. During the
meal, Jesus predicts his betrayal and share with His disciples that the unleavened bread
and wine are transformed into the body and blood of himself.
After mass the Blessed Sacrament takes place where the faithful remain in the presence of
the Eucharist just as the Disciples kept a vigil with Christ.

Activity for the family : Jesus washed his apostles’ feet, an act of sacrificial love and service by
which he gave meaning to what he would accomplish on the cross the next day.
Washing one another’s feet would be a great way for loved one to recall the Lord’s Holy
Thursday mandate to love one another as he has loved us.

Good Friday is the day on which Catholics commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
According to the gospels, Jesus was betrayed by Judas on the night of the Last Supper.
The morning following Christ's arrest, he was brought before Annas, he condemned
Jesus for blasphemy. From there, Jesus was sent to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of
the province and they appealed to Pilate to issue the order to kill Jesus. Pilate appealed to
King Herod, who found no guilt in Jesus and sent Him back to Pilate once again.
Pilate declared Jesus to be innocent, and washed his hands to show that he wanted
nothing to do with him, but the crowds were enraged. And the end Pilate agreed to
execute Jesus and sentenced him to crucifixion
During his flogging, the soldiers tormented Jesus, crowning Him with thorns and ridicule,
Jesus was compelled to carry his cross to the place of His execution, at Calvary. After
arrival at Calvary, Jesus was nailed to the cross and crucified between two thieves. He
suffer death and the body of Christ was removed from the cross and laid in a donated
tomb, buried according to custom.
The events of Good Friday are commemorated in the Stations of the Cross, a 14-step
devotion often performed by Catholics during Lent and especially on Good Friday.

Family Activity : Good Friday is a day on which Mass is not celebrated, along with several
other sacraments.
For the veneration of the cross that takes place at this liturgy, we should choose a
crucifix at home by which to honor Christ’s passion and death.
Gather together and read the passion narrative from the day keeping the crucifix as a
focal point in the room. It would be good for each person to venerate it with a
genuflection or a kiss, according to custom.

Good Friday is one of the annual obligatory days of fasting for Catholics. With life so
jarringly altered, perhaps our fasting will take on new meaning this year, and perhaps we
can increase our fasting for the good of all those suffering and caring for the sick

The Easter Vigil is the greatest liturgy of the entire year in the Roman Rite of the
Catholic Church. The Roman Missal guides the celebration of this great night
and even refers to the Easter Vigil as the “mother of all vigils” which is quoting
St. Augustine from the 5th Century. So, the Easter Vigil has real history.
Easter Sunday is the day we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus and
the gift of eternal life that he gained for us. This is the most joyous feast in the
liturgical year and the whole foundation of the Christian faith. Our redeemer
lives and we rejoice in his victory over death and the new life we have through
our baptism! Today is a day of great celebration.
The Easter Vigil is a beautiful experience, one that immerses a person into the
very heart of the Paschal Mystery.
Family Activity :
1. Participate in Mass
2. After Mass, gather your family together for a special meal to celebrate Christ’s
resurrection from the dead.
3. Light the Paschal Candle homemade, reminding family members that Jesus is the light
of the world and that today, he sits at the right hand of the Father. Jesus knows us, loves
us and calls us to spread the Good News of his resurrection to others.
4. Before saying grace, take the opportunity to renew your baptismal vows as a family. If
you have holy water in the house, use it to sprinkle family members after the renewal of
vows.

Domingo de Ramos PROGRAMA DE CATECISMO CHURCH OF THE HOLY FAMILY El Domingo de Ramos es el último Domingo de Cuaresma, es el inicio de la Semana Santa, y conmemora la entrada triunfante de Jesucristo a Jerusalén días antes de que fuera crucificado. El Domingo de Ramos es conocido así porque los creyentes reciben una hoja de palma que se usa para participar en la recreación del arribo de Cristo a Jerusalén. En los Evangelios, Jesús entra montado en un burrito, las personas a su paso en señal de elogio tiraban sus ropas a su paso así como posiblemente palmas y pequeñas ramas coloridas, enfrente de Él a manera de homenaje. Esta era una práctica común ofrecida a la gente de mucho respeto. Las hojas de palma son reconocidas ampliamente como símbolo de paz y victoria, es por eso que se prefirió su uso para el Domingo de Ramos. Toma un momento para leer el Evangelio como se hace al inicio de misa. Lecturas del Domingo de Ramos en Español : Puedes cantar un himno de alabanza a Cristo Nuestro Rey y Señora largo de la procesión, scomo el tradicional “All Glory, Laud and Honor”. No hay necesidad de hacerlo en silencio, eso les dijo Jesús aquel Domingo de Ramos. Termina tu procesión en el altar que tienes en tu casa ahi mismo puedes reflexionar acerca de la narración de la Pasión de Jesús.

El Jueves Santo es la conmemoración de la Última Cena de Jesús con sus discípulos , fue
cuando estableció el sacramento de la Santa Eucaristía antes de su arresto y crucifixión.
También nos recuerda la institución del sacerdocio.
Jesús celebra la cena de Pascua. Cristo en cumplimiento perfecto de su papel como
ofrenda pascual, se ofrece como sacrificio final para que seamos salvados.
La última cena fue su alimento final y lo compartió con sus discípulos en Jerusalén. Durante
este momento, Jesús predice su traición y comparte con sus discípulos pan sin levadura y
vino y este es transformado en SU cuerpo y SU sangre .
Después de misa el Santísimo Sacramento es adorado por los fieles, de la misma manera en
que los discípulos permanecieron en vigilia junto a Cristo.

Actividad Familiar: Jesús lava los pies de sus discípulos, en un acto de amor y servicio, el cual
adquiere una nueva dimensión cuando se completa la crucifixión al dia siguiente.
Lavarse los pies los unos a los otros, puede ser una idea para demostrar el amor de Dios al cual
hemos sido llamados el Jueves Santo, y dar así cumplimiento al mandamiento de amarnos los
unos a los otros como Jesús nos ha amado.

El Viernes Santo es el día en que los católicos recordamos la crucifixión de Jesucristo.
Según los evangelios, Jesús fue traicionado por Judas en la noche de la Última Cena. La
mañana siguiente al arresto de Cristo, Él fue llevado ante Anás y lo condenó por blasfemia.
Entonces, Jesús fue enviado a Poncio Pilato, el gobernador romano de la provincia, y le
pidieron a Pilato que emitiera la orden de matar a Jesús. Pilato lo envió al rey Herodes,
quien no encontró culpa en Jesús y lo envió nuevamente a Pilato.
Pilato declaró que Jesús era inocente y se lavó las manos para demostrar que no quería
tener nada que ver con él, pero la multitud estaba furiosa. Y al final Pilato acordó ejecutar a
Jesús y lo sentenció a crucifixión.
Durante su flagelación, los soldados atormentaron a Jesús, coronándolo con espinas y
ridiculizandolo, Jesús se vio obligado a cargar la cruz hasta el lugar de su ejecución, en el
Calvario. Después de llegar al Calvario, Jesús fue clavado en la cruz y crucificado entre dos
ladrones. Sufre la muerte y el cuerpo de Cristo fue retirado de la cruz y depositado en una
tumba donada, fue enterrado según la costumbre.
Los eventos del Viernes Santo se conmemoran en el Via crucis , una devoción de 14 pasos
que a menudo realizamos los católicos durante la Cuaresma y especialmente el Viernes

Actividad Familiar: Las últimas semanas se han sentido como Viernes Santo, un día en el
que no se celebra la misa, junto con varios otros sacramentos.
Para la veneración de la cruz que tiene lugar en esta liturgia, debemos elegir un
crucifijo en casa para honrar la pasión y muerte de Cristo.
Reúnanse y lean la narrativa de la pasión del día manteniendo el crucifijo como punto
focal en la sala. Sería bueno que cada integrante de la familia le adorara con una
genuflexión o un beso, según la tradición.

La Vigilia Pascual es la mayor de las liturgia de todo el año en el Rito Romano
de la Iglesia Católica. El Misal Romano guía la celebración de esta gran noche
e incluso se refiere a la Vigilia Pascual como la "madre de todas las vigilias",
según San Agustín en el siglo V. Entonces, la Vigilia Pascual tiene una historia
muy antigua.
El Domingo de Pascua es el día en que celebramos la Resurrección del Señor

Jesús es la luz del mundo y que hoy, él se sienta a la diestra del Padre. Jesús nos
conoce, nos ama y nos llama a difundir la Buena Nueva de su resurrección a otros.
4. Antes de decir la oración de los alimentos, aproveche la oportunidad para renovar sus
votos bautismales como familia. Si tiene agua bendita en la casa, úsela para rociar a los
miembros de la familia después de la renovación de los votos.
