HOW CAN CAREGIVERS SUPPORT THE 5 SKILLS
DURING THE COOKIE PROGRAM?
The 5 Skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management,
People Skills, and Business Ethics
1. Be her main advocate – Assist your Girl Scout in developing her goals and
empower her to run her own cookie business!
2. Girl-led – Ask questions during the cookie planning meeting about how the
funds will be used and urge your Girl Scout to be part of the decision making
process.
3. Build financial confidence - let her take the lead on building her business plan
with a budget and managing the money.
4. Find her voice – Help her create her sales pitch so she’s ready when interacting
with customers and building her people skills.

Did you KNOW? The hosting service unit is eligible to
receive a cookie rally reimbursement of up to $125? In
order to receive this reimbursement the hosting service
unit must submit their completed evaluations that were
provided with their rally kit. Reimbursements can only be
issued for the number of girls who participate in the
evaluation so it is important to make sure every girl
completes an evaluation as part of her troop or group.
Evaluations are done as a group/troop individual

Ex Did you learn anything new about Money Management, when we had our mock cookie booth?
Break up the questions. Ask one or two at a time maybe even throughout the event. This keeps things fresh, and moving
without troops rushing to complete at the end of the day.
Try "Yes/No" or Red/Green paddles for Daisy and Brownie Girl Scout to answer questions. It's easier than counting hands
and is more engaging for the girls.
Don't wait until girls are ready to go home to pass out evaluations. This puts everyone in a rush without allowing time for a
good debriefing. Debriefing allows girls (and leaders!) to reflect and soak in all their new skills and knowledge!

30WHAT'S NEXT?
= CAMP
More than S'mores; camp is about the successes and
surprises girls experience while outdoors.
For many girls camp is not a possibility without the annual Girl Scout Cookie
Program. The sale not only provides them with the financial means to attend camp
but it trains their skills so that when they make it to camp they are filled with
courage, and confidence to make their camp experience a success!
Camp Gives Girls the Opportunity to:
• Explore the world around them
• Build lifelong skills
• Develop a deep appreciation for nature

31The Girl Scout
Cookie Activity Pin
Celebrating the 5 Skills with girls!
All girls who participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program are eligible to earn the annual
Cookie Activity Pin. When they earn the pin, invite girls to share their accomplishments in
each of the 5 Skills. Here’s how girls achieve the 5 Skills through the Girl Scout Cookie Program:
1. Goal Setting
The Cookie Activity Pin
is available for purchase at Set personal learning goals. What do you want to learn this year? What do you
your local store or through want to do better? Share this with at least one other person or your group.
www.girlscoutshop.com.
The pin is a different color Set personal sales goals for yourself based on your personal and group goals.
every year. Keep a record of your accomplishments each year!
2. Decision Making
Develop a basic business plan for your cookie sale.
Work as a team with other Girl Scouts to decide when and where you’ll sell cookies
and what you’ll do with the money you earn.
3. Money Management
Develop a budget for accomplishing at least one of the goals you set in the Goal
Setting step. Use this budget to help determine your sales goals.
Be able to explain how the money earned in the Girl Scout Cookie Program helps
you, your group, and your council.
4. People Skills
Practice your “elevator speech” for customers about what you are selling, why you
are selling it, and why they should purchase it.
Make a list of customers you will approach. Don’t forget people you sold to last year!
5. Business Ethics
Discuss how living the Girl Scout Promise and Law applies to what you do in the
Girl Scout Cookie Program as a businesswoman.GIRL SCOUT COOKIE™ BUSINESS BADGES
