RETURN OF SCHOOL SPORT:
The SHSAA office staff has started the process of creating guidelines to prepare for
the re-introduction of school sport in September 2020. It is quite likely that school
sport will look much different for the fall, winter and spring activities in the upcoming
school year. Many factors will need to be considered to ensure that the health and
safety of all individuals remains the first priority in any return to school sport.
Discussions with many stakeholders and special interest groups, including Provincial
Sport Organizations, have been occurring. Of primary focus are guidelines and stages
for each of the fall activities. Work on the winter and spring activities will continue
throughout the fall. The Executive Council will be working with the activity specific
Sport Advisory Groups to look for feedback and input.
The global and local response to COVID-19 continues to be fluid and dynamic. The deci-
sions of many other groups including Government, Saskatchewan Health Authority, Edu-
cation Response Planning Team, and School Divisions will all significantly influence the
extent to which school sport will occur this fall. The office and Executive are attempt-
ing to provide various stages for school sport (and each activity) that will allow a transi-
tion to occur dependent on the direction that is provided by the various groups influenc-
ing the re-opening of the province, schools, and sport. Many decisions about school
sport will need to continue occurring throughout the school year. As always, the Execu-
tive Council will continue to make decisions so that the goals and objectives of the Asso-
ciation can be achieved while maintaining the health and safety of all.
It is expected that a proposal for school sport stages will be available by the end of the
current school year to help guide the start up of school sport in the fall. In all likelihood
changes may occur throughout the summer and these changes will be communicated to
SHSAA Members.

ONLINE COACH DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
As COVID-19 has curtailed many in-person events and activities including coaching de-
velopment opportunities, many groups and organizations have developed e-learning and
webinar formats to deliver coach education. There are many resources available and
coaches are encouraged to take this opportunity to enhance their coaching skills by com-
bining their professional teaching skills with knowledge and understanding in sport spe-
cific areas. There are also multisport modules available including practice planning, nu-
trition, safe sport, and many more.
Sask Soccer has provided a portal for school soccer coaches and officials not affiliat-
ed with a community organization in order that coaching technical soccer skills and offi-
ciating development can occur in an e-learning format. The portal is accessed through
https://www.rampregistrations.com/login?v3=90f38ccf and an information video at https://

MENTAL HEALTH IN SPORT:
Your assistance is requested in making Grade 11-12 student athletes aware of the fol-
lowing Mental Health Study.
Dr. Martin Camire from the University of Ottawa has worked very closely with School
Sport Canada over the past number of years. His research has led to the development
of coaching resources for school sport coaches and the research continues to provide
results to support the benefits of school sport participation.
Dr. Camire's next project is a pan-Canadian study on school sport participation and men-
tal health. Student athletes in grades 11-12 are encouraged to become part of this valu-
able project. To get all the details please refer to the SHSAA website or click on the
