I hope that everyone is doing well and had a chance to celebrate our
independence with family and loved ones. Summer is chugging along and Vice President
our industry seems to be thriving. Construction is still busy and interest Paula Carlson
rates are still holding. Both great signs for our industry. It’s still a fantastic Brabazon/Title Team
time to build or buy!

Our Annual Golf Outing is coming up on August 13th! Cheri Espe and
Eric Scherdell,
committee have been doing an excellent job of putting together an event Summit Accounting Group
that will be fun and safe at the same time. If you haven’t signed your
foursome up, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I think we all need a day to get
out and break up the monotony. And maybe have a couple cold ones. Oh,

Great news on the Student Build front, we have an accepted offer! Thanks Builder Directors

Associate Directors
Also some great news on the Parade of Homes. After much scrutiny and Ruth Farrington
analysis, both the committee and board of directors have decided that we Marling Lumber & Homeworks
are going to have the parade this year! It will be a little different as it will be
a Virtual Tour. Special thanks goes out to Chris Engstrom and the Tessa Slavin-Dongarra
committee as well as Tom Bradley for brainstorming this plan. I think there Cabinet Country, Ltd.
is some fantastic opportunity here to showcase our homes and over almost
a full year vs a couple weeks. Please reach out to Heidi for more details. I’m
very excited about this and very proud of everyone for stepping up to the
State Directors
plate on this. I think you all will be very impressed at how it turns out!

Lastly I’d like to talk about our Membership Committee. Paula Carlson and

team have been doing all they can to grow our association. Which in these

RELEVANT STATE NEWS
WBA ADVOCACY UPDATE
The Advocacy Group held a very productive meeting via Zoom. A report
was shared with members outlining changes to the current contractor
certification rules and state statutes. Contractor Certification Subcommittee
Chair Cory Sillars walked members through the proposed changes and the
committee asked for some additional language to better define required
courses and to give more flexibility to allow online in person education
options. The committee approved the revised report to be included in the
2021-2022 advocacy agenda.
The committee was also briefed on the rest of the items on the 2021-2022
advocacy agenda. The final draft advocacy agenda for next session will be
considered by both the advocacy group and the board of directors during
their respective meetings in October. If members or local HBAs have any
additional items to be considered, please forward those to Brad Boycks or
Advocacy Group Chair Mike Derrick for consideration.
Finally, the committee was briefed what are expected to be the competitive
races in the state assembly and state senate this fall.
