You probably know by now that history is StoryMakers’ jam! And this
time it’s a mythic mashup of tales from the ancient world. So … what
if Odysseus (Ulysses) teamed up with Aeneas (uh … Aeneas) after
the Trojan War? And, what if Echo won’t shut up and Narcissus won’t
stop looking at himself? Annoying? Yeah. And what if the Cyclops
(one eye) meets Argus (a hundred eyes)? Would they “see” things
differently? Don’t look now. From Mesopotamia and Egypt to Athens
                                                  and Rome, we’ll mash up the madness without making a major mess;
maybe. It’s very smart and STUPID fun! And also alliterative. (See

                                       FOR TEACHERS OF GRADES 3-8

Arts educators will learn how to create an emotionally safe
space in their classrooms, how childhood trauma impacts
behavior, and how the arts can help students heal from
trauma and build their social and emotional competencies.
Teachers will consider how social justice-oriented projects build
students’ capacity to act as change agents in their schools and
communities. Attendees will participate in a circle, a restorative

to the geography, economics, and culture of the pre-colonial
Powhatan people, and consider a myriad of other applications.

by providing schools with the training and tools necessary to do so, and by creating a space
for the community to share their students’ success. Up to four schools will receive a 17-week musical theater residency
that culminates in a 30-minute Disney KIDS Musical at each school. Working with professional teaching artists, a team of
faculty from the school will build skills necessary to produce a musical theater performance featuring students in grades
3-5. Through this process, students develop self-confidence, practice collaboration and strengthen speaking and reading
skills while learning musical theater techniques.
