Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) Seminar
Design for Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP)
6 - 7 February 2018 | Västerås, Sweden
Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is a competitive and proven
manufacturing process for the production of complex and
highly specified components, particularly in sectors that
have highly demanding environments such as aerospace,
offshore, energy and medical. It provides many benefits
and has become a viable and high performance alternative
to conventional processes such as forging, casting and
machining in many applications.
The Design for HIP seminar will be of interest to end users,
designers as well as technical and managerial personnel in
the HIP industry. The event will have two main focuses: how
companies can use HIP covering topics such as the process,
designing canisters and simulation as well as case studies on
companies that are already using HIP.

Functional Materials Seminar
Functional PM Components in Next Generation
Electric Cars
16 - 17 April 2018 | Jülich, Germany
In the future more and more cars will have an electric drive
system. The electrical cars today are not taking benefit of
the variety of functional materials that can be produced
within powder metal processing. Potential materials that
could be utilsed include SMC, magneto caloric materials,
thermo electric materials, porous heat pipes, permanent
magnets, hydrogen carriers, fuel cell plates among many
others.
The Functional Materials Seminar will be a workshop with
the aim of increasing knowledge in this area to help build
up a consortium of companies and universities producing
and developing functional materials that can be used in
an optimised electrical car. Industry experts present the
potential use of these materials in cars, followed up by
a workshop preparing a consortium for a Horizon2020
application under the umbrella of EPMA.

SUMMEREV
SUMMEREV 18: Heterogeneity of Hardmetals and
Superhard Materials
7 - 8 June 2018 | Stockholm, Sweden
For a decade or more the European Hard Materials Group
has promoted regular discussion meetings (WINTEREV/
SUMMEREVs) to facilitate discussion of topical research items,
such as mechanical and microstructural test methods, amongst,
primarily, a European community of research institutions and
industry. The current SUMMEREV will address a broadly
defined topic of heterogeneity including: effects of local
or global heterogeneities; characterisation and properties;
developments in mechanical testing; with an emphasis on
modelling and measurement.
SUMMEREV 18 will focus on a range of these topics, with
special emphasis on the characterisation of heterogeneity.
However, the definition of which precise aspect is to be
left to individual contributors with the specific objective
of cross fertilisation of ideas between the different
technologies of interest.

Metal Additive Manufacturing Seminar
Additive Manufacturing AM-Motion Summer School
4 - 7 September 2018 | Gijón, Spain
AM-Motion is a European Funded Project of which EPMA is
a consortium member. The overall objective of the
AM-Motion is to contribute to a rapid market uptake
of AM technologies across Europe by connecting and
upscaling existing initiatives and efforts, improving the
conditions for large-scale, cross-regional demonstration and
market deployment, and by involving a large number of key
stakeholders, particularly from industry.
One of the outcomes of this European Funded Project
is the establishment of the AM-Motion Student Summer
School in September 2018, aimed at Post Graduate
Students. The Summer School will be organised with the
support of AM experts and consortium partners in the
second summer of the project. Duration will be around
2-3 days to exchange, spread the knowledge and give
rise to vocations. Main AM concepts, existing materials
and processes will be explained. In addition, design and
manufacturing paradigms, market relevance and specific
best practices examples will be included. Students will
apply by sending their CV and explaining their interest.
Trip reimbursements are foreseen for 20 students up to
a threshold of €300. More students would be encouraged
under own/school expenses.
