Current GPSHS Students & 8th grade students
High School Students:
All students currently signed-up to be in a high school choir will need to go through a voice placement
during the week of March 25th, 2019 for placement into one of the choirs at South High School. This
means any current GPSHS choir member signed-up for a choir on their 2019-2020 schedule must meet
with Mr. Pratt for a vocal placement.

If you are a high school student not currently in a choir, but would like to be in choir, you should
discuss a time with Mr. Pratt to set a time to have a vocal placement.

Incoming Freshman/ Current 8th Graders/Students new to Grosse Pointe South:
All students wishing to be in a high school choir must go through a simple vocal placement. Mr. Pratt
will visit the middle school on the dates outlined below and hear students that are going to be Freshman
next year. Students will be placed into the choir that best fits their talent, abilities, and commitment
levels. All vocal placements for current 8th grade students will occur during the days listed below.

      attached.
   2. print out of your most recent 9 weeks report card
   3. completed forms included in this packet

voice placement process. All information will be available at the website www.GPSouthChoir.org

Your Voice Placement

For high school students, choose a song that you feel shows off your vocal talent. It can be one you
have or are done in choir currently or a piece you have prepared on your own with a private voice
teacher. Given the time constraints, I will not have you finish the piece, so plan to sing the best 32 bars
of your song. Also, your piece should be prepared and memorized! For middle school students, be
prepared to sing Row, Row, Row, Your Boat. Remember you are making an impression in every aspect
of the audition, look and act the part.

Results from the voice placements will be posted at www.GPSouthChoir.org on Friday or
Saturday, March 30th or March 31st. The competitive choirs will include approximately 30 - 40
Singer/Dancers. Swings or alternates may be determined during the school year on a per song basis
based on attendance, grades, work ethic and other show-related factors.

*Important note for parents: I will be happy to discuss aspects of singing and dancing that your child
can improve upon for their next vocal placement, but I will not discuss scores. Think calmly and
rationally before you decide to make any phone calls or e-mails.
Try as hard as I might, if your child’s name does not appear on any list, it is an oversight and will be
corrected. Keep in mind that I always have what is best for the choirs at the forefront of all decisions
that I make.
