South March Public School SMPS Family Update - Monday, January 18, 2020 Proud, Positive, Powerful Penguins Welcome to another great week at South March! Parents are required to screen their children daily for symptoms of COVID-19 BEFORE SENDING THEM TO SCHOOL. Use this online tool provided by Ottawa Public Health to do daily screening. We need to all work together, to ensure our school remains safe. Hello SMPS Families! As you may know, the Province of Ontario is set to make an announcement on Wednesday, January 20th to determine if students will return to in-person learning or continue with remote learning. I am not sure of the time of this announcement but please keep a look out for an email from the OCDSB and check social media for more information. ● Follow us on Twitter: h ttps://twitter.com/SouthMarchPS ● Refer to our website: https://southmarchps.ocdsb.ca/ ● www.ocdsb.ca Elementary PA Day - Friday, January 22 Elementary schools will have a PA Day on Friday, January 22 for assessment, evaluation and report card preparation. There will be no elementary remote or in-person classes on this day. Google Hangout (GRADE 4 - 6) It was our understanding that students were unable to access G oogle Hangouts (a chat room) within the OCDSB domain but it has come to our attention that there is a “backdoor way” and students are able to access this function. Your child may have access to google hangout and may be chatting with others throughout the day with no way for staff to monitor/supervise. Unfortunately, at times there may be inappropriate exchanges occurring on this platform. We are asking for your help. Please speak with your child (Gr 4-6) about the following: ● Students are not permitted to access Google Hangout (chat group) using their OCDSB account unless their teacher has it set up for educational purposes and can monitor it. ● As part of the “OCDSB Acceptable Use of Technology agreement”, students are expected to access and use their OCDSB account for e ducational purposes only ● Student OCDSB accounts are not PRIVATE accounts but the property of the OCDSB, and all activity is archived by the OCDSB. ● If students have created a google chat “group” and are the owner, they must delete the group. If they are following a “group” they need to leave. Registration is now open for Kindergarten starting in September 2021 If your child will be four years old by December 31, 2021, they are ready to begin their learning journey with the OCDSB. It’s easy to register. Visit our Registration page to register online anytime. There will be a Virtual Kindergarten Information Night for SMPS families on February 3, 2021 at 7:00 PM - More information will be provided NEW - SMPS families - If you have questions about the Kindergarten program at South March PS there is an online questionnaire that you can use. If you know of potential SMPS families looking to register their children into kindergarten please forward the K indergarten Questionnaire
Update: Masks for grade 1-3 students: T he province has announced that mask wearing will now be mandatory for students in grades 1-3 once schools are open for in-person learning. Students attending specialized program classes in person should be strongly encouraged to wear masks if they are able to do so in alignment with directions previously issued for students grade 4-12. From OSTA: For students taking transportation - All students from grades 1 to 12 will be required to wear a face mask (cloth or medical), and students in Kindergarten are recommended to wear a mask, on all vehicles, including school buses, vans and wheelchair buses. Please note that a neck warmer or scarf is not considered an appropriate face mask on board vehicles. I f your child has a medical condition that does not allow them to wear a mask, or special needs that make mask-wearing difficult, please advise OSTA, the Operator or the school. We appreciate your continued efforts to keep students and our drivers safe. Spirit Days We are continuing with our SMPS Spirit Days Fridays, unless advertised differently each Friday (this week Thursday) students are encouraged to wear their school colours.
