First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice
through arts and cultural action. This film screening is part of the
annual First Fortnight Festival. THE DRUMMER & THE KEEPER tells
the story of the unlikely friendship formed between two young
men; Gabriel, a reckless young drummer with bipolar disorder, who
revels in rejecting society’s rules and Christopher, a 17 year old with
Asperger’s Syndrome, who yearns to fit in. This heartwarming story
shows the strength of the human bond in the face of adversity.
Written and directed by Nick Kelly, whose short film SHOE was
shortlisted for an Academy Award, THE DRUMMER & THE KEEPER was
produced by Kate McColgan for Calico Pictures (FROM THE DARK),
with support from the Irish Film Board.

This one-woman-show presented by Jean Farrell and directed by Joe
McCarrick is a comical yet poignant look at life, from childhood in
the 1950s to the present day. It draws very much on the influence
of religion as taught by the nuns – preparing young Irish Catholic
schoolgirls to imitate the virtues of the Virgin Mary. The Six Marys
are fun-loving girlfriends, who grow into practical, everyday
housewives. The light-hearted atmosphere helps us concentrate
on their journeys through the decades delivering all kinds of sharp
and comical observations. Jean Farrell has plenty to say about the
teenage pursuit of Mr Wonderful followed by the reality of married
life, teenage children and growing waistlines.

After a sell out run and rave reviews at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival
with his brand new solo show, award-winning comedian Danny
O’Brien returns to the Dlr Mill Theatre with his most adventurous and
unique solo show to date. After inheriting a broken-down, unreliable,
older-than-he-is motorcycle, Danny decided to take to the road on a
comedic expedition all over Ireland, over the water to Scotland and
back again. Come hear the story of this RaconTour – in all its glory,
failures, and triumphs alike! “O’Brien took to the stage like a force of
nature... one suspects it won’t be too much longer before stadiums
come calling.” Irish Examiner ★★★★★

Imagine this: you’re walking up a mountain, through a forest of
pine trees, and you’re trying to find your Dad. He’s been taken by

as it is untrue. Half dark and half light.

Q the Quo is a five-piece Status Quo tribute band, based in Northern
Ireland, dedicated to bringing the musical magic and energy of the
original rock legends to as many people as possible. Q the Quo are
as close as you can get to the real Quo sound. Even though it’s fifty
years since they rose to fame with their first hit, Status Quo’s music
is as popular as ever. Members of Q the Quo all grew up listening
to their songs and get a real kick out of playing a two-and-a-half
hour tribute show in front of an always-appreciative audience. The
authentic energy reproduced by Q the Quo will have the audience
on its feet and singing out loud in no time. A must-see performance!

Based on the novel by John Fowles, ‘The Collector’ tells the story
of Frederick Clegg. Frederick is a socially awkward young man that
collects butterflies who becomes infatuated with the beautiful,
unapproachable art student Miranda Grey. No longer content to
watch from afar, Frederick does the unthinkable and resorts to
“collecting” her. What unfolds between the captor and the prisoner
is a battle of wills that will have the audience second guessing.…
One of the classic tales of modern fiction ‘The Collector’ is unmissable
theatre.

Balally Players present Of Mice and Men. Based on the classic novella
written by John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men tells the tale of two great
friends and their struggle to live the American dream. George and
Lennie have been traveling together from ranch to ranch for years,
working hard to make ends meet and save enough for a place of
their own. Tragic yet beautiful, Of Mice and Men is an extremely
popular play that has become a staple of American theatre.

Rathmines and Rathgar Musical and Dramatic Society present A Bunch
of Amateurs. Keen to boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood
action hero, Jefferson Steele arrives in England to play King Lear in
Stratford – only to find that this is not the birthplace of the Bard,
but a sleepy Suffolk village. And instead of Kenneth Brannagh and
Dame Judi Dench, the cast are a bunch of amateurs trying to save
their theatre from developers. Jefferson’s monstrous ego, vanity
and insecurity are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic am-dram
thespians. As acting worlds collide and Jefferson’s career implodes,
he discovers some truths about himself – along with his inner Lear!

The award winning Bradan Players present “Conservatory” by
Michael West. The play was first presented in 2014 at the Peacock.
Described by Emer O’ Kelly in the Irish Independent as “a marvellous
play, absorbing, intense and elegant”, It tells the story of an elderly
couple sitting in a dark room in their house, doing the crossword,
taking their tablets and knitting, all the while raking over a traumatic
past that has all but destroyed them.

season with Gluck’s timeless classic Orfeo ed Euridice. Following the
death of his new wife, Orpheus is given the chance to face the
perilous journey to the underworld to retrieve her. There is only
one condition: he must not look back. Gluck’s magical score imbues
this Greek tragedy with touching poignancy, with a host of beloved
arias including Che Faro Senza Euridice, beautifully bought to life

Two of Ireland’s best known rock/blues musicians have collaborated
to record an album together and tour many of Ireland’s best
known venues in 2018. Don Baker is known as a prolific singer/
songwriter/musician for over 50 years and has had two number one
singles ‘Winner in You’ on the RTE label and ‘Inner City’ which
was recorded by The Jolly Beggarmen. Rob still has that unique and
sensational voice that saw him pull in huge crowds with one of the
top showbands in the ‘60s ‘ The Plattermen’, and his own band The
Rockets in the 1970s.

He’s one of Ireland’s most enigmatic and entertaining performers to
the point where Ireland’s biggest music and arts festival, the Electric
Picnic have for the past five years afforded him his very own stage.
An indie legend and ringmaster of exceptional renown, Jerry Fish
has evolved into a showman extraordinaire, capturing the hearts
and minds of audiences all over with his now legendary live shows,
a unique live theatrical experience that dissolves all boundaries
between performer and audience. Jerry Fish blasted onto the Music
Scene in the 1990’s touring the globe as front-man of alternative
rock outfit An Emotional Fish, the band who gave us the indie rock
anthem “Celebrate” These days the name Jerry Fish is synonymous
with Festivals, Carnival Sideshow, Circus and Theatre.

February 100 Days Of Dogs Exhibition
Runs until
3rd Feb
                   by Tarsila Krüse
Artist:
Tarsila Krüse

Inspired by the 100 Days Project, Dublin-based children’s book
illustrator Tarsila Krüse, brings an heartwarming perspective to one
of her favourite subject matters: Dogs. What began as an exercise in
drawing different breeds, turned into loving illustrated portraits of
real-life dogs from friends, family and strangers! Tarsila wanted to
show more than just how lovely these pooches are, so she collected
special moments owners and dogs shared in their lives and the
result is this beautiful, heartfelt exhibition, filled with affection and
care, showing that dogs are, truly, men’s best friends.

March Colour Me Blind Exhibition
Opens 3rd
March
                   by Blind Elephant Collective
Runs until
31st May
Artist:
Tarsila Krüse

“Colour Me Blind” is the Blind Elephant’s very own no-nonsense, no
mindfulness-malarkey adult colouring book, produced with sugar,
spice and lots of things that are just not nice! The book is a collection
of illustrations from 13 of The Blind Elephants on the themes Nature
vs Manmade, and of course, there are a few elephants in there too.
You can clearly see the diversity of styles and ideas in this colouring
book, as every member in the group conjures up wildly different
work with the same theme in mind. The Blind Elephants believe
this highlights the individuality of each member’s imagination in
a creative and interesting way. Collaboratig as a collective since
2009, in this project, the Elephants invite you to collaborate with
them by adding colour and life to their creations. The exhibition
is in celebration and promotion of the book and will comprise of
larger framed coloured in images from the book, finished in various
media by the artists on display for inspiration. Live colouring in and
refreshments on the opening evening!

                    Fantastic Mr Fox
“You know as well as I do: no-one outfoxes a fox!” Boggis, Bunce and
Bean, three greedy, smelly, horrid farmers hate the cunning Mr Fox.
Mr Fox is smart, clever and rather fantastic, but he doesn’t realise how
determined the farmers are to get revenge. Can he hatch a plan to save
his family and friends? Can they outrun the diggers and outsmart the
farmers? And can Rabbit shut up long enough not to give the game away?
Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox is family fun at its finest. A tale of greed,
pride and the power of friendship, this production promises a huge
theatrical feast with live music and songs, ideal for the whole family.
