St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church - The Presentation of the Lord
Please remember St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or Cemetery in your will.

                                    Dear Friends in Christ,

I have to tell you that I felt a little left behind this past week when many other counties in the
state were given permission to move to Phase 2 during this on-going battle with the Covid-19
virus. I hope our number of cases will continue to decline so that we too can move to Phase 2.
I do want to update you on some changes that we will be implementing here at St. John. We are
able to increase the number of people leading the music at our celebrations. This will allow
many of our music ministers to return to serving our community by sharing their voices and mu-
sical skills. They will, of course, need to wear face coverings and be positioned nine feet apart in
the music area. Woodwind and brass instruments are also now permitted provided they use bell
covers. The travel quarantine has also been changed. If you travel and find yourself in close con-
tact with people other than those in your household (indoors, within six feet, without wearing
face coverings), you are asked to refrain from coming to Mass for seven days (previously it was
14 days) to make sure you do not develop any symptoms.
I want to thank you all for working hard to keep each other safe and healthy. While at St. John,
remember the three easy steps – hands, face, space. Sanitize your hands as you enter and
leave, wear a face covering from the moment you leave your car until you return to your car,
and always allow six feet between you and anyone you are speaking to who is not part of your
                                    household.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL VIRTUAL RETREAT S - Andrew Hollands
On Saturday, January 16, our middle school Confirmation students embarked on their virtual Confirmation retreat, followed
by the high school students on Saturday, January 30. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions and the number of students, we could
not hold one single retreat in person, but were delighted to have both retreats led virtually by SPIRITUS Ministries from the
state of Wisconsin. Having worked on the SPIRITUS ministry team last year, I believed in the missionaries’ ability to guide our
youth preparing for Confirmation, and they and all our students had a great time. Many students shared similar experiences
of their retreat as fun, faith-filled, inspirational, peaceful, and surprising. Some
have commented:
“It was way more fun than I thought.”
“I learned how to be closer to God.”
    “Eye-opening”
“It got my mind off of what was happening.”

    “Life-changing”

A big thanks to those parents/chaperones who experienced some of the retreat
at home with their child, and to other volunteers! And certainly, a big thanks to
this year’s SPIRITUS team! Please keep all of these students in your prayers as
they continue to traverse through youth ministry, preparing to receive the

sacrament of Confirmation this May.

A REPORT FROM CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS, COURT 2105 - Ellen Joslin
We held our elections last May and at that time a new board was elected. Ellen Joslin is Regent; Bee Tipp is Vice-Regent;
Becky Milligan is Financial Secretary; Bernie Gerhardt is Secretary and Margaret Clemenhagan is Treasurer.
In a typical year we would be hosting receptions, providing funeral luncheons, hosting our Christmas Bazaar and much more.
This year has been very different. We were able to meet together in
October and November. At these meetings we found it necessary to
cancel our annual Christmas bazaar. We did not have to cancel the Quilt
Raffle however. On CDA Sunday Maureen Riess won the beautiful vin-
tage quilt made by the quilters group . We were able to celebrate CDA
Sunday with Mass and a small token for each of our attending members.
In November we provided 100 cake mixes for St. Vincent de Paul to use
in the Thanksgiving baskets. Joan Jones and the quilt committee contin-
ued to provide masks for the church community by offering them to
anyone for a free will offering. Thank you to all of the participants who
made and sold masks and to the parishioners who purchased them. At
this meeting members who were interested drew names for Secret Sisters. We have been secretly supporting each other
with cards and small tokens to boost spirits. We will reveal our identities to each other at the Valentine meeting.
In December we made donations of rosaries to local hospitals to distribute to Catholic patients who were comforted by hav-
ing a rosary to pray. We continue to collect rosaries at the welcome desk as the need continues.
Currently we have a committee of members calling families who have been unable to attend church because of the Covid-19.
pandemic. We are just checking in to let them know that they are missed and are certainly not forgotten.
We hope to continue serving our community through this pandemic and as we move back to our more traditional activities.
