MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

    Due: Feb. 1

STATE CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE COVER DESIGN EVENT

PURPOSE: To create a design to be used on our program cover and on the
conference app at the State Career and Development Conference that successfully and
creatively uses this year’s theme in a professional manner.

SPECIFICATIONS:
   The following must be included in the artwork submitted to MASS-DECA:
        - 60th Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA Career Development
            Conference
        - The DECA logo
        - Dates & location of conference. (March 7-9, 2019 and Boston, MA)
   - Theme: “It’s Your Time!”
   *Artwork must be emailed to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu as an attachment in a
     recognizable format in order to be reproduced for media purposes at the SCDC.
     You must provide a hard copy also.
   Name of student, chapter & contest emailed entry should be the name of the
     saved file; for example: JohnDoeNortonCover
   Do not use copyrighted logos or graphics. Sports logos are copyright protected,
     which means we cannot use them. Disney characters, place and logos are all
     copyright protected and property of Disney. We cannot use it.
   All entries must be 8.5” X 11” and ready to be printed should it win.
   All entries must be CAMERA READY It is recommended that artwork be
     computer generated or drawn in marker
   The winner will be selected by the MA DECA State Action Team.
   All entries must be received by the due date at:

MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

LARGEST CHAPTER PERCENTAGE INCREASE AWARD

DESCRIPTION
To recognize a chapter that has had the largest percentage increase in membership
from the previous DECA school year.

SPECIFICATIONS
This award will be given to the chapter that has had the largest percentage increase in
membership from the previous DECA year. Numbers will be taken from the final roster
submitted for the 17-18 school year and compared to the final roster for the 18-19
school year.

INCENTIVE
The chapter having the largest percentage increase will receive recognition at the State
Career Development Conference with a recognition award and will also be recognized
at the ICDC Leadership Reception..

LARGEST CHAPTER AWARD

DESCRIPTION
To recognize a chapter for their successful efforts in recruitment.

SPECIFICATIONS
This award will be given to the chapter that has the largest high school student
membership in MASS-DECA. Numbers will be taken from the final roster for the 17-18
school year.

INCENTIVE
The largest chapter will receive recognition at the State Career Development
Conference with a recognition award and will also be recognized at the ICDC
Leadership Reception..
MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

Celtics State Only Event
 Mass DECA has teamed with the Boston Celtics once again to hold a Competitive
State Only Event! Individuals and/or teams will have the opportunity to create a tagline
campaign and supporting components for the Celtics organization. The winner will
receive recognition at States, an ICDC leadership spot, as well as the opportunity to
pitch their idea to the Celtics promotional team. The requirements for the project are as
follows:

Teams:
Able to work as an individual, or in teams of 2-3.

Specifications:
  1. A typed marketing plan, 3-5 pages, detailing your idea for a ‘tagline’ campaign-
      Examples of past taglines: ‘it’s not luck’, ‘bleed green’ and ‘C-us rise’.
  2. Supporting components can be any or all the following: in-game activation,
      social media campaigns, a ‘kick off’ component.
  3. The tagline must encompass a ‘team’ mentality, as opposed to surrounding the
      likes of one individual.
  4. An example of a social media campaign, showing how the event will be
      advertised through major social networks (ie. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
      Snapchat, etc.)
  5. Create a mock commercial story board detailing what viewers would see on
      television regarding the event.
  6. Create in game activities; what will take place during the game to truly make it a
      “theme night?” Utilize TV breaks, halftime, pre and post-game time, etc.

Projects will be evaluated by the Celtics organization. A winner will be chosen, and the
winning team will be notified by Mass DECA. Good luck to all who participate and be
sure to show how you “bleed green” with your Celtics Tagline.
MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

Massachusetts DECA Video Challenge

Description: To showcase a new state promotional video. This video should be made
with the purpose of promoting DECA and recruiting new members. The video should
show why you think individuals should join DECA and what it means to be a DECA
member.

Specifications:
  • Teams may be 1-2 members
  • Filming actual DECA exams, role plays, or presentations is forbidden
  • Videos must be posted to Youtube set to private (be sure that private mode is
    turned on) with a link emailed to the dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu
  • Massachusetts DECA retains the rights on any submissions
  • Videos should be a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 4 minutes in length
  • Videos must be submitted by February 1, 2019

Hints:
   • Do not focus solely on your chapter
   • Showcase various DECA events throughout the year
   • Try to attend as many DECA events as possible ( FSLC, Power Trip, Social
     Events, MDA Events, Districts, & States). However, you will not be penalized for
     missing any number of these.
   • Film a fake role play, test or project presentation (don’t forget proper dress attire)
   • Use catchy, upbeat music
   • Convey what you love about DECA in your video

Incentive:
   • The winning video will be selected by the 2018-19 State Action Team
   • The winners will receive 1-2 IGNITE, ELEVATE or ASPIRE spots for themselves
   • The video link will be distributed to all Massachusetts DECA advisors to use at
     their discretion and posted on the MA DECA website

T-SHIRT DESIGN AWARD

PURPOSE: To create a design to be used on our T-shirt at the State Career
Development Conference.

SPECIFICATIONS:
The following must be included in the design:

      Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA
      The State Conference theme: “It’s Your Time!”
      Name of student and chapter should also be included on the back of entry
      An electronic version must be emailed to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu
      Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
       for example: JohnDoeNortonTshirt
      Entries must be computer generated (clip art, print shop).
      Do not use copyrighted logos or graphics. Sports logos are copyright protected,
       which means we cannot use them. Disney characters, place and logos are all
       copyright protected and property of Disney. We cannot use it.
      The winner will be selected by the State Action Team.
      Recognition of the winner will be at the 2019 State Conference
      All entries must be received by the due date at:

MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

NEW-PIN DESIGN AWARD for 60th Anniversary Pin

PURPOSE: To create a design to be used as a commemorative keepsake pin at the
MA DECA 60th Career Development Conference.

SPECIFICATIONS:
The following are requirements of the entry:

      Massachusetts DECA, MASS-DECA or MA DECA on the design
      Use of the state theme, “It’s Your Time” is optional
      60 or Sixty should be represented somewhere on the design since it’s an
       anniversary pin.
      Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
       for example: JohnDoeNorton60Pin
      Please email entry to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu
      Preferable that entries be computer generated (clip art, print shop) but if drawn,
       please note that the design will be modified to be compatible in a digital pin
       format by the chosen pin design company.
      All entries must be: large and clear enough for the pin design artist to recreate
       the artwork, although the pin will be 1 ¼” in diameter.
      The winner will be selected by the State Action Team, who also reserves the
       right to not choose any artwork submitted for the pin design.
      Recognition of the winner will be at the State Career Development Conference
      All entries must be received by the due date at:

PIN DESIGN AWARD for ICDC trading pin

PURPOSE: To create a design to be used as a trading pin at DECA’s International
Conference

SPECIFICATIONS:
The following are suggested ideas for the design:

      Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA
      Something that is significant or represents Massachusetts.
      Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
       for example: JohnDoeNorton60Pin
      Please email entry to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu
      Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
       for example: JohnDoeNortonPin
      Preferable that entries be computer generated (clip art, print shop) but if drawn,

HAT DESIGN AWARD

PURPOSE: To choose a type of hat and create a design to be used as a spirit item at
ICDC

SPECIFICATIONS:
The following must be included in the design:

      Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA and DECA diamond
      An electronic version must be emailed to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu
      Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
       for example: JohnDoeNortonHat
      Entries must be computer generated (clip art, print shop).
      Do not use copyrighted logos or graphics. Sports logos are copyright protected,
       which means we cannot use them. Disney characters, place and logos are all
       copyright protected and property of Disney. We cannot use it
      You may send 2 files if you’d like, one with the design to be used on the hat, and
       one showing what it would look like on the hat.
      The winner will be selected by the State Action Team.
      Recognition of the winner will be at the 2019 State Conference
      All entries must be received by the due date at:

MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

Wear do you DECA?

Purpose: Demonstrating creative and spirited nature of DECA members in a creative
setting

SPECIFICATIONS:
   Take a photo of yourself (or with other DECA members) wearing your favorite
     DECA attire/gear.
   If using the DECA diamond logo, be sure you are following the copyright rules
     (no distortion of logo, nothing inside the diamond, correct colors, etc)
   Email the photo to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu
   Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
     for example: JohnDoeNortonWear
   More than 2 members may be in the photo, however only 2 ASPIRE, IGNITE or
     ELEVATE spots will be given
   Must be appropriate; proper school dress-code applies
   Be creative

INCENTIVE : The winning team will earn two spots at the ICDC in the IGNITE,
ELEVATE or ASPIRE Academy. The winners will be recognized at the opening session
at the State Conference and have their winning photo featured on Massachusetts
DECA social media.
MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENT

Due: Feb. 1

STATE CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE GEOFILTER DESIGN

PURPOSE: To create a geofilter design that attendees can use at the 2019 State
Career Development Conference.

SPECIFICATIONS:

      The design must conform to Snapchat’s design requirements
      The design must not use copyrighted logos however you may want to include the
       DECA or Massachusetts DECA logo
      You may want to use DECA Inc.’s Snapchat geofilter templates
      The following are suggestions that you can include in your design:
           o 60th State Career Development Conference or SCDC
           o Massachusetts DECA, MASS DECA, MA DECA
           o A DECA Logo
           o Dates of the conference: March 7-9
           o Boston, MA
      The design can mention the 2018-2019 theme: It’s Your Time!
      The design must be appropriate and not use any profanity or offensive material
      The design must be Snapchat submission ready
      The winning design will be chosen by State Action Team 60
      The entry should be submitted as a .png and emailed to dmcfadden@bhcc.mass.edu by
       the due date
      Name of student, chapter & contest entry should be the name of the saved file;
       for example: JohnDoeNortonGeofilter
      Do NOT submit the entry to Snapchat. The winning design will be submitted to
       Snapchat by State Action Team 60

academy.
