4 Torch Summer 2020Ian Receives Limbless Soldier's Bursary We are proud to grant the Limbless Soldiers Bursary to a special member of our Legacy family each year. This year, Ian was the grateful recipient of an activity table - to use his iPad, magazines and bingo - 2 woollen booties, a special mattress for his bed and physiotherapy support. Legatees Barbara and Russell Carrier, Community Services Officer Megan, clinical nurse manager, Danni and Diversional Therapist,Tracey, helped him unwrap his gifts. Ian said "thank you!". Noosa Triathlon On November 3rd, Team Legacy, swam, cycled and ran for a reason at the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival. The team of five, consisting of current serving members, veterans and passionate supporters, raised over $10,000 to help the promise live on for our widows, families and children. We'd like to thank everyone for doing their part to "Do More Than Remember". From those who donated to those who cheered the team on all the way to the finish line. Legacy 'Homecoming' Concert a Huge Success Over 330 Sunshine Coast residents enjoyed a special annual Remembrance concert – featuring the highly celebrated Sunshine Coast Concert Band, directed by Ken Chadwick OAM. Special attendees included Buderim MP Brent Mickelberg, Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson and Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson – as well as representatives from Army, Airforce and Navy who provided an official open and military march. Over $8,000 was raised at the event which will go towards the continued support of families and children in the Sunshine Coast region. A huge thanks to the dedicated Sunshine Coast Legatees and staff who have rallied together to host this event for 16 years now! The Sunshine Coast Concert Band have been wonderful supporters and we thank them so much for their contribution to the event. 6 Torch Summer 2020

On 6 January, 34 Legacy kids and 7 Youth Leaders boarded the bus to the 2020 Summer Youth Camp. An annual week of fun, team building and personal development for our Legacy kids – and a well-deserved week of respite to single parents. Activities included taking on a high ropes course, obstacle course challenge as well as plenty of down-time to swim and play games. Kind volunteers from 6RAR also visited on one day, running a day full of physical challenges, team building activities and learning important military skills. The week ended with a talent show night that was full of laughs! 8 Torch Summer 2020
Do More Than Remember - Governor's Visit In November 2019, Legacy partnered with the State Library of Queensland (SLQ) to deliver our Remembrance Campaign, “Do More Than Remember”. The SLQ host an incredible, interactive public exhibition at the Anzac Square Memorial Galleries that we were kindly invited to. Some of our Legacy ladies attended the exhibition and were honoured to meet His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland and Mrs de Jersey at the gallery. The galleries are open to the public and detail wartime experiences of Queenslanders. We strongly encourage you to visit, it truly is a remarkable space. The gallery is located underneath Central Station in Brisbane CBD. For more information contact State Library of Queensland on 07 3840 7666 or visit slq.qld.gov.au/anzacsquare Meet Sarah Hi! We Shall Keep the Faith November 1918
Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet - to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.
We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders Fields.
And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead.
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought
In Flanders Fields.
