KIDS ON CAMPUS
Introduction
Welcome to OCC’s 2019 Kids on Campus Summer Camp programs!! We are excited to offer our
community a variety of fun, imaginative, and creative camps. This year we have some AWESOME
new additions to the schedule, including Crayola World of Design, NASA: Journey to Outer
Space, eSports Apprentice - YouTube Streamers and Games, Secret Agent Lab and SUP Yoga!
Our entire team here at Continuing & Professional Education is dedicated to enriching the
lives of our community’s kids and teens academically, socially, and emotionally. Our camp
coordinators, instructors, and counselors embody the compassion and passion necessary to
create an atmosphere of connectedness and comfortability so that each child’s individuality is
nurtured and respected by all.
We are so grateful to all the families who continue to trust us with the hearts and minds of their
children and welcome the new and upcoming families into our community with excitement and
anticipation for our best Kids on Campus Summer Camp yet!

Kids on Campus Policies
The Kids on Campus programs are intended to be an educational, fun experience for children.
To insure a healthy and happy summer, please adhere to the following parameters:
Registration: A Health & Waiver form must be completed for children 17 & under. This form is
available here.
Emergency Information: In the event of an emergency, it is imperative that the Kids & Teens
Camps has current contact numbers. If your number changes, even where you will be for the
day, please provide this information to the instructor when dropping off your child.
All campers should pack a snack and a bottle of water.
Daily Check In/Out Procedures: All campers must be dropped off and picked up at their
classrooms. Students must be signed in and out of camp by a parent, legal guardian or legally
designated adult. It is imperative that children are picked up promptly at the end of class.
Plan to register early as class size is limited.

Before-CAMP CaRE • Lunch Care
Before-Camp Care Lunch Care Program
CPE offers before-camp care as a service CPE offers a supervised lunch hour for campers
to working parents. The program runs from who wish to remain on campus between their
7:30am to 9:00am, Monday through Friday. morning and afternoon camps. Campers

NEW Camp STEAM Ages 9-12
Our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math
STEAM Camp engages campers in workshops that focus on
fundamental skills they need to improve their critical thinking
skills. Campers learn to define & clarify a problem, judge
information related to a problem, and solve the problem as well
as draw conclusions. Through activities focused on discovering
answers, campers develop a point of view that improves their
academic & social perspectives of the world. Our STEAM Camp
encourages the discovery of new ideas & meanings using
content-based assignments. Through the investigation and
modeling of important critical thinking strategies campers
improve reading, writing, listening, speaking and presenting skills. This skill-set helps them in their
academic disciplines. Our goal is to move students from dependent learners to independent, self-
motivated, life-long learners. Throughout the skills based and text-based instruction, campers
gain a sense of empowerment & control over their learning.

Deaf community! Students learn major concepts of this visual
language, to hold a basic conversation, express their interests,

favorite holidays & colors, and what they aspire to be when
they grow up. Whether you have a family member or friend
who communicates with ASL or your child just wants to learn
to sign, register your child for our fun-filled learning experience.

Sign up for a week of adventure and engaging play traveling
to some of the most popular hot spots for kids in the Ocean
County area! Campers soar high while jumping at Sky Zone,
learn new skills while bowling, practice team building to
scavenger their way out of an escape room, spend the day at
Point Peasant Boardwalk , and get their fitness game on out in
nature at Jake’s Branch County Park new fitness trail. And of
course, experience a laser show at our very own Planetarium!

dayOur Living Shore Discovery:
Hands-on Science Camp Southern
Edition Ages 9-13
Our Living Shore Camp is back again! One of our most popular
OCC camps promises to be a fun-filled adventure for your
child who loves science. CPE offers this wonderful camp
opportunity centered on the NJ Science Standards. Campers
take field trips 4 out of the 5 days and explore all science topics,
combining history with language arts/writing skills. Study all
areas of science including coastal geology, beach formation/
composition, and the habitats of local marine life. Learn the
value of wetlands, bird life, plants, and trees. First day focus is
preparation for the field trips. Campers go to Cattus Island in
Toms River for observation of shore birds. We visit a maritime
forest and a marine ecosystem with a boat ride on the Barnegat
Bay and a naturalist. We spend 2 days at Long Beach Island
for a scavenger hunt, wave study, coastal geology, and sand
sampling on both the bayside and ocean side. Next, it’s 1 day
at Brigantine National Wildlife Refuge where we explore one of
the most popular & growing hobbies in the US...birdwatching.
Here, we observe backyard birds, shore birds/wading birds,
hawks, and ospreys. Activities are subject to change due to
severe weather conditions. REQUIRED: Bring a lunch, plenty
of water, sunscreen, towel, camera, binoculars, hiking boots,
water shoes, and money for souvenirs.

Campers learn the fundamentals of cartooning through fun
projects that stimulate their imagination. They learn the
basics of drawing people & faces moving on to create original
characters in various mediums. We cover how to draw their

In this hands-on course, we explore the art of photography
in the digital age through a range of creative projects &
techniques. We cover effective composition, image capture,
and postproduction using Adobe Photoshop providing a start
to finish approach to achieving a personal visual expression.
Campers do not need to have prior experience. REQUIRED:

Camera Ages 8-15
Our camp is for the aspiring young ‘actors’ in your house.
Campers learn real auditioning skills by working with scripts
for commercials and film readings. Campers personalize
characters and follow direction, block for the camera, and read
with their ‘co-stars’. They learn improvisation and ad-libbing/
off-script as a basis for making acting choices and trusting their
instincts. We include a take-home tutorial focusing on ways to
find acting jobs as well as a list of legitimate talent agencies
and casting directors in the area. Casting Director Kathy
Wickline, CSA of Kathy Wickline Casting who holds over 10,000
casting credits in film, commercials and TV has designed this
camp. We send all footage to a professional editor. Parents
have the option to order a USB at an additional cost after camp
as a keepsake.

I ntro to Film & TV Camp
Ages 8-15
CPE offers this sampler camp to the budding artist in your
family. Campers work as cast and crew teams in this cool class/
camp. They learn basic levels of acting, directing, and operating
the camera. They explore script writing, storyboarding, and
improvisation. They work on cool projects like commercials,
film scenes, music videos, and public service announcements.
Each day is different as campers create their own original films
while learning the basics of the biz! Casting Director Kathy
Wickline, CSA of Kathy Wickline Casting is a top casting director
of TV and Film. Kathy selects real life projects that campers
enjoy while being introduced to the TV & Film Industry. We send
all footage to a professional editor. Parents have the option to
order a USB at an additional cost after camp as a keepsake.

Theatre Performance Workshop
Ages 9-13
Our camp is for novice actors. Campers learn theatre
terminology, basic stage directions, and blocking. Through
improvisation, warm-ups, drills, and movement, they hone
their performance skills. At camp’s end, we hold a showcase
performance for family and friends. Campers do not need prior
stage experience just be prepared to move. REQUIRED: Bring
water and closed toed shoes.

of the challenges of living in space as they try to assemble a
satellite while training to be an astronaut. They build their
own Mad Science rocket and participate in a real NASA style rocket launch. Campers have many

Stand-Up Paddle Boarding is an easy-to-learn and non-
intimidating activity where campers get outside and explore
our local waterways. Our interactive, STEM-friendly, 9-hour
camp creates lasting memories, builds fitness, and provides
lifelong water skills. Our progressive skill and team building
sessions cover equipment familiarization and proper fit,
location & condition assessment, self-rescue and on & off
water safety skills, fundamental paddling techniques &

and gain a fresh perspective on their practice in our floating
studio. The gentle ebb and flow of the water provides the

Our 4-day camp is for kids new to sailing or with little sailing
experience. Children learn the basics of sailing including

Our 4-day camp is for kids new to sailing or with little sailing
experience. Children learn the basics of sailing including
rigging, points of sail, knot tying, sailing maneuvers, and
sailboat safety. The children gain confidence on the water

Our administrative office is located in the Library (Bldg. #3), Ground Floor (Parking Lot #1) on

Employer-Sponsored Registration
Purchase orders, vouchers and letter of intent (on company letterhead for pre-approved com-
panies only) are accepted by mail or fax. A completed registration form must accompany these
documents.
Class Confirmation
Course confirmations/registration receipts are emailed upon registration. (Note: a registration
receipt can be printed when registering online). It is the responsibility of the student to confirm the
start of the course and the room assignment by checking online. The weekly schedule goes online
each Friday. If registration is processed within three days of the start of the class, the student may
not be on the class roster and must show payment receipt for the class.
Course Changes/Cancellations
Ocean County College reserves the right to cancel a course entirely or to change its time, location or
instructor. In the event a course is changed, students will be notified. Notification of course change/
cancellation will be made by email or phone call. If a course is cancelled, all registered students will
be issued a full refund.

Emergency Closing
For emergency/inclement weather closing information, check the college website or call 732-255-
0400. To add Viking Alerts to your phone, go here. Accept the user registration agreement and
press submit. Enter your user information. Click on the contact information tab. Enter your contact
information. Press submit. You will receive an email verification from Viking Alert. Click the verifi-
cation link in the email message. Once you have the Viking Alerts on your smart phone, you will
automatically receive notifications of any changes in scheduling that occur on our campus.
Information will also be broadcast on local radio stations.
Bookstore
Textbooks are available at the College Bookstore, Bldg. #8 on the Toms River Campus, unless
stated otherwise in the brochure text. Books can now be purchased online from the bookstore.

Parents of All Students Under the Age of 18
In case of an emergency, OCC will administer First Aid and/or arrange for transport to a hospital
unless otherwise notified. A completed Health and Waiver Form must be submitted with a child’s
registration form.
Student Misconduct
Student misconduct on OCC’s campus is not tolerated at any time. All incidents of misconduct are
taken very seriously at OCC. For a list of misconduct examples, see the OCC Student Campus Life
Policy #5247. OCC administration will address all Continuing Education (CPE) student misconduct
incidents and deal with each situation appropriately.
Refund Policy
We will be pleased to offer you a refund or tuition credit for a class ONLY if you withdraw at least four
business days, between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm, prior to the start date of the class. Refunds
will be issued within 2-4 weeks based on the original payment method. There will be no refunds
issued should a student be dismissed from class for misconduct. There will be no refunds for trips
or ticketed events. Student substitutions will not be permitted for courses. Visit our website for
