Week 2 - June 23
Story of Food: Ice Cream

After reading the story, singing the song, and doing the finger play, follow the recipe below to
make your own tasty treat.

Ice Cream in a bag!
You will need:
   - 1 sandwich size zip top bag - 1 Cup Ice cubes
   - 1 quart-size zip-top bag - 1-2 Tablespoons salt (rock salt works
   - ½ Cup Milk (the higher best. Table salt will work too, you
   - ½ teaspoon Vanilla extract may want to use more)
   - 1 Tablespoon sugar

   1. Mix milk, vanilla, and sugar together in small zip-top bag, then seal the bag securely
   2. Add ½ C ice to a quart-sized bag, then sprinkle 1 T of rock salt over the ice. Add
another ½ C of ice and 1 T of salt. Place the bag with the milk mixture in a quart bag,
trying to get the ice to surround the small bag, and seal.
   3. Shake! Shake! Shake until your ice cream starts to solidify. Try wrapping the bag in a
towel to keep your hands from getting too cold.
   4. Enjoy!

Non-dairy alternative: Slushies!
You will need:
   -
   - 1 sandwich bag - ½ cup juice of choice
   - ½ cup water - 1 sealable jar or container, at least 12 oz
   - 1 teaspoon salt

   1. In the sandwich bag, combine the water and salt. Get as much air out of the bag as
you can before sealing it. Freeze this overnight.
   2. Add your juice to your container and add your semi-frozen bag. Seal your container
      and shake!
   3. Shake some more! Keep shaking!
   4. Once your slushy has reached your desired consistency, or your arms are too tired,
      enjoy!
