Council 16464 at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX., was
awarded the Family Activity Award for its family Mass
program. Once a month, these Brother Knights invited their
family members to attend Sunday Mass with them at the
campus’ Catholic Student Center. During the Mass, council
members sang in the choir, served as altar servers, lectors
and ushers. Following the Mass, the council prepared a meal
to enjoy with their families. For some council members, this
monthly experience built upon a strong family faith life
experienced at home, while for others, it allowed them to
re-evangelize their family in their shared Catholic faith.

Council 9224 at Loras College in Dubuque, IA., received
the Community Activity Award for their commitment to
building Catholic community on campus and abroad. In order
to challenge “hook-up” culture on campus, these Brother
Knights arranged for a date auction where Catholic women
could bid on a group date with council members. The group
date consisted of Mass led by the council Chaplain, a shared
dinner, and an evening at a roller-skating rink. The proceeds
from this event were used to sponsor a water well in Africa.

Council 16859 at University of Waterloo in Waterloo,
Ontario, was awarded this year’s Life Activity Award in
recognition of their work to build a culture of life in their
community. This council organized a fundraiser dinner and
invited pro-life speakers, including a member of Parliament,
to address the challenges faced by young adults and
students when defending the lives of the unborn. Following
the speaking program, attendees prayed for the victims of
abortion at a special Mass. The funds collected at this dinner
