So... what’s
real estate all about?
The way we live, work and consume
impacts our built environment.

The real estate sector includes buying
and selling buildings; renting and
operating owned or leased buildings;
as well as servicing those buildings on
a fee or contract basis (e.g. facilities
management). Real estate is commonly
divided into residential (homes) and
commercial sectors.

Commercial real estate has a focus on
financial return and renting – think
industrial, office, retail, leisure, medical,
and hotels. The UK is the biggest
commercial real estate market in Europe,
followed by Germany and France.

“The opportunities at JLL are endless. Don’t

be for you. The Project Management team delivers
exciting projects for our clients, often publicised

engineers, to quantity surveyors, fire consultants
and planners.

As a Project Manager, you will have the
opportunity to work across the Commercial and
Residential teams, gaining significant training in
both areas before becoming Chartered. Expect
to familiarise yourself with various projects
and systems; learning new processes such as
documentation control; and using spreadsheets
and programming applications.

Building surveying
Building surveyors are often referred to as
Doctors for buildings. They diagnose defects,
prescribe solutions, and might also consult
with specialists to investigate issues further.

It’s a very hands-on role, meaning you’ll
spend lots of time developing skills in building
pathology (how buildings are structured and
can deteriorate); legal knowledge (what the
law sets out to keep buildings safe); and
up-to-date building and sustainability standards.

If you are passionate about sustainability,
you can also advise clients on sustainable
construction and its environmental impact.

in our Building Consultancy team.
