Principals Puriri School is a small rural school
with a strong connection to its awa
and its Puriri tree. The kura has
created Te Kura o Awa to connect
tamariki and whānau to the kura
pepeha. Our tamariki live the pepeha.
Te Kura o Awa is the foundation for the
teaching of our local curriculum. All
aspects of the NZ Curriculum have
been successfully linked to
environmental play based learning at
our awa.
Connection to people, place and the
environment is a priority along side
supporting tamariki to understand
their responsibilities as citizens of
Aotearoa.
Whakawhanaungatanga shapes the
structure of our 3 whānau rooms.
Whānau work together with staff to
support equity and excellence in an
inclusive and supportive environment.

Māori Dimensions and Cultural Diversity Appreciation of Te Reo Maori is
modelled to support the
understanding and importance of
the culture of Tangata Whenua and
is encompassed in everyday life at
Puriri School through the use of
kōrero, waiata, karakia and
pakiwaitara. Tikana is deeply
embeded in the social context of
the kura.
Special Character / Māori Medium All students at Puriri School take part
in daily waiata, karakia and
development of their capabilities as
speakers of Te Reo.
The use of Te Reo is normalised so it is
heard, seen and used daily in the
whānau rooms. The integration of the
language is easily equated to three or
more hours of Te Reo instruction a
week. Teachers and students can
move between both English and Te
Reo within the whānau room setting.
Teachers are committed to further
professional development in this area.
Te Kura o Puriri is a Level 4b Te Reo
kura and is currently working with the
Ministry to develop and implement a
Te Ao Māori Strategy.Te Kura o Puriri - Kia Pono Puriri School - Be True

School Organisation and Structures Puriri School is a small rural kura
catering for year 1 to 8 students. Our
students learn together in three
whanau rooms. These whanau rooms
enable our students to learn at their
own pace and work alongside students
of similar ages and levels thus ensuring
that all students are able to achieve
success in their learning. The ability for
students to work individually, with age
group peers and across the levels
means that irrespective of their age
and ability there is always a group and
teacher that fits their learning needs.
ERO identified in 2019 that Puriri
School has equitable outcomes for
learners.
Review of Charter and Community The Puriri School Charter is
Consultation
reviewed yearly at Matariki
every year whanau consultation
takes place. Our Charter is very
much a living document.Te Kura o Puriri - Kia Pono Puriri School - Be True
