        texas cotton’s story
                                                     our story
Our story began in Galveston. The original call for an organizational meeting was held in Waco, Texas, on
February 3, 1911, in which a resolution was adopted stating the desire that an organization be established for the cotton
trade in Texas, among representatives of Dallas, Fort Worth, Paris and Waco. On February 16, 1911, the committee
selected to secure the charter met in the lobby bar of the Hotel Galvez, just prior to its grand opening, to draft our Articles
of Incorporation and to discuss trading rules to be adopted. The eight members of the committee were: Anderson
Clayton & Co., Crespi & Co., Evans & Co., W.D. Felder & Co., J.L. Goldman & Co., H. Kempner, Geo. H. McFadden
& Bro., and P.G. Pauls & Co. The following day, on February 17, 1911, a final meeting in Waco, Texas, resulted in the
permanent organization of The Texas Cotton Association. The organization committee applied to the State of Texas for
the charter issued March 20, 1911. The first convention of The Texas Cotton Association was held at the Hotel Galvez
on March 23, 1912, with W.C. Lawson presiding. Exactly one hundred years ago on March 15 & 16, 1918, members of
The Texas Cotton Association met at the Hotel Galvez, with President Joseph W. Evans presiding. On March 20, 1982,
Eduardo Esteve presiding over the 71st convention of members stated in his annual address, “We regard Galveston as
a homecoming for our members.”

TRANSPORTATION RECEPTION
TEXAS COTTON’S STORY and history of this association accounts for years of strong relationships we have shared with
the suppliers of our transportation needs. With deep gratitude, this association wishes to thank those that have been
champions and efficiently moved Texas cotton. You are very much a part of our success story. Our story’s reputation
is at stake when we do not deliver cotton as agreed. The Transportation Reception is a time that we have set aside
each year to meet informally to resolve to do better. The Transportation Reception, featuring cocktails and light hors
d’oeurves will be held on the Terrace from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. n

TEXAS COTTON RAFFLE
You will also find a place on the registration form to contribute $10 to the Texas Cotton Club for 2018 annual convention.
The Texas Cotton Club was established as an integral part of providing an exceptional organization for members.
Since meeting registration fees don’t cover the full cost of TCA meetings, these extra dollars create opportunities for
industry cohesiveness and growth that may not otherwise exist. Participation in the annual meeting fund by members
and other interested parties is important, because it indicates the depth and breadth of confidence by those closest to
the association and our Texas cotton industry. Every donor and every gift is vital to maintaining the ongoing strength
of The Texas Cotton Association, year after year. Simply contribute to the Texas Cotton Club and be a part of TEXAS
COTTON’S STORY! Your contribution will entitle you to enjoy extra membership benefits during this meeting and be
eligible to be included in an extra drawing during the awards ceremony for prizes and gifts. Texas Cotton Club members
will also be recognized in the printed materials at our convention. Look for your badge ribbon designating your
membership when you pick up your registration materials! n
