TRADITIONAL ELSA AND CMS SONGS

1 ELSA HYMN (first version)
(melody: 9th symphony, Ludwig van Beethoven)

ELSA students work together, liberté, fraternité
Lonesome sometimes in their study, often united in their work
Sometimes fighting with themselves for they are still being young
Always thinking Europe United for that is their ideal.

Each of them looks to the future
Laws are growing for all of us
Stage-managing or only looking?
Able for a leading place.

East and west give us real peace now
Live together, égalité
Staging we build on the future
Aura for the world today.

Each of us gives his energy
Let it be a peace-full fight
Seeds are sown now, may they grow now
Arise in a European light.

2 ELSA HYMN (second version)

ELSA students drink together, liberté, fraternité
Lonesome sometimes in their study, often united in their beds
Sometimes fighting with each other, for they are still immature
Always thinking Europe united, for that is their ideal.

Each of them looks to the future
Laws are boring all of us
”Peacocking” or only looking?
Searching for a pretty face.

East and west give us real peace now
Live together, égalité
Shagging we build on he future
Children for the world today
Each of us gives his energy.

Let it be a fruity night
Seeds are sown now, may they grow now
Arise in a European Light

                                                      4
3 The ELSA Song

One All
Everywhere we go Everywhere we go
People always ask us People always ask us
Who we are Who we are
Where do we come from Where do we come from
And we always tell them And we always tell them
We come from ELSA We come from ELSA
If they don’t hear us If they don’t hear us
We shout a little louder We shout a little louder

4 The Lawyers’ Song
(melody: the happy widow’s waltz/Valsen ur Glada Änkan)

We are lawyers And if you don’t believe us
We are lawyers Just wait and see
All of us. Only those who talk so much
                                                       Can lawyers be.
We are lawyers
We are lawyers Verse 2 Only those who charge so much
Stay as such. Verse 3 Only those who drink so much
Verse 4 Only those who f#*k so much

5 ELSA in the Sun
(melody: Strangers in the Night)

ELSA in the sun Hurry to the hall
We’re doing nothing If not they’ll cut our balls!
We’re just having fun
                                                       Julian* will get mad
But in the morning If we’re not there on time
We have to get up Yes, Julian will get mad
And there’s no fun at all If we’re not there on time

God, it’s nine o’clock But do you really care ?
We slept two hours If we’re don’t get down there
Someone at the door Remember we are just there for fun
Let’s take a shower Let’s have another Capri sun...

6 Love me ELSA
(performed by Sesselja Árnadóttir, ELSA Iceland - winner of the singing competition at the Hamburg ICM,
melody: "Love me tender" by Elvis Presley)

Love me ELSA Love me ELSA
Love me sweet Love me long
Never let me go Take me to your heart
You have made my life complete For it's there I go the bug
And I love you so. And will never cured

Chorus: Chorus:
Love me ELSA Love us ELSA
Love me true Love us dear
All my dreams fulfilled Tell us you are ours
For, my darling, I love you We'll be yours through all the years
                                                         Till the end of time

7 The Jan Torp Hansen’s Rap

I was walking down the street here the other day Ba-be-do-bob (ad lib)
Trying very hard to find the right way
I had been studying law for six hours in a row When I woke up in the morning I could see
So I felt very tired, well I guess you all know She was still lying next to me

Suddenly I saw this pretty young girl Well you know I always play a fair game
She was the prettiest girl in the whole wide world So I said hey baby what’s your name
I said fuck the law
What do I need that for She leaned over and gave me a kiss
Said well you must remember this
She said you’re right
I’ll be yours all night ‘Cause my name is
And the night was long
And we sang the same song 1-2-3-4: ELSA

8 The Norwegian Heidelberg ICM Song

In Heidelberg City the Council was meeting The Finns were drinking the Germans were thinking
To eat and to drink and to tell a good lie. The Treasurer counting all over again
The workshops were set and the problems we met The final conclusion was total confusion
Were discussed and discussed and discussed... But nevertheless we all had a great time

Tralalalalalala, tralalalalala, tralalalalalala Tralalalalalala, tralalalalala, tralalalalalala
Let’s empty the glasses, celebrate the advances Let’s empty the glasses, celebrate the advances
And hope that we all will be singing again!! And hope that we all will be singing again!!

                                                     6
9 The Norwegian Vienna ICM Songs

Song 1 Song 3
(melody: Hope and Glory) (melody: What shall we do with a drunken sailor)

My name is Patrick What shall we do with Arnold Dikkers? (x 3)
I’m the big boss around On this Council Meeting
ELSA is my ambition
When will I get a crown? First day he started drinking
Next day he stopped his drinking
You might think I’m a pervert Third day he’ll raise the levy
But that’s far from the truth And spend all the money
‘Cause I hide my suspenders
When I put on my shirt So, what shall we do with Arnold Dikkers? (x 3)
‘Cause I hide my suspenders
When I put on my skirt

Song 2
(melody: Mannen var ute etter øl)

I am the stallion on the board
I come from Rome, Italy
And as everybody can see
My favourite sport is to eat
and to drink and to fuck around
All over town
While brother is doing my work

10 Give us the perfect guy
(melody: Milord)

Give us the perfect guy He’s rich and generous
He has to be as strong and nice He spends it all on us
He’s got the brain, the looks And when we fool around
He doesn’t mind a lie He doesn’t make a fuss
He’s got the cutest smile He must be elegant
                                           Strong as an elephant
He’s got both class and style He must be able
And when he touches us To go on and on and n
We go completely wild! La la la la la... (ad lib)

                                       7

13 If you want to be my lawyer
(censured version. From the International team report in Rome, ICM Autumn 1998, melody: "Wanna be" by
the Spice Girls)

If you want to be my lawyer Tell me what you want
Study is not enough What you really, really want
Look a little further I'll tell you what I want
You gotta play it tough What I really, really want

We talk about ELSA A ziggy, ziggy, ziggy zag
And we know how it feels Ziggy zag SPEL
Friendships last forever
This is where they're built You'll be working hard
                                                       Having fun as well
Tell me what you want If the office stops you
What you really, really want Just scream: go to hell!
I'll tell you what I want
What I really, really want We talk about ELSA
And you know how it goes
A ziggy, ziggy, ziggy zag Never ending workshops
Ziggy zag SPEL As the party waits

It' s a learning process We'll tell you what we want
To be in a team What we really, really want
Work, sex and parties We'll tell you what we want
Better than it seems What we really, really want

The ELSA House We wanna, we wanna, we wanna, we wanna
A place you should be
The spirit and vision A ziggy, ziggy, ziggy, zag
In reality Ziggy zag YOU!

15 Mummy... what did you do in ELSA?
(melody: Another brick in the wall)

We don’t need no Council Meetings Hey seniors! Leave those kids alone (x 2)
Beer and wine are more our style
You can keep your three year planning We believe in masturbation
Drinking late is more worthwhile If you’re working in a bank
                                                    If you’re feeling some frustration
Hey Juniors ! Don’t let us drink alone (x 2) You can always have a wank

We recall the nineteen sixties Hey juniors! Leave yourselves alone (x 2)
Now we’ve really changed our tune You ELSA juniors sit in meetings
Say yes to drugs and no to Maastricht Planning steps behind closed doors
Someone pass the cocaine spoon You never really seem to party
Do you have to be such bores
(Sniff!) Juniors leave our drugs alone
If we’re not careful in a few years Hey Juniors! Don’t leave us alone
Our tits and bums will start to sag
Bit if you 're making loads of money
You can always have a screw

16 ELS seniors’ song to the ELSA juniors at the Rome ICM 1993
(melody: Oh, Susanna)

We went to the eternal town Chorus
Our ELSA for to see Instead came kits with tooth paste
In airport was Pierangelo Arrived on business plane
And was on his knees And ELSA-kids from Austria
                                                    They badly missed their train
Chorus
Oh oh oh, oh my ELSA Oh student girls, please take good care
What have you done to me? Of your virginity
Two hundred juniors came to Rome It may be lost this very time
Us seniors for to see. In our vicinity

Last year the show was in Namur Chorus
In the Château Disgrace Oh oh oh, three male seniors
Oh Boy, oh Boy you juniors found Are awaiting kids at home
This crazy, crazy place. It’s Andy, Fred and Lukasz, but
Will they make one in Rome?
Chorus
Oh oh oh, oh dear juniors At Instituto Carmine
Take note to this advice Acoustics were so bad
Don’t ever set us up again But Andy U. and Michael G.
In castles filled with mice. Changed water into wine.

Now ELSA has a history Chorus
And we can sing and dance Oh oh oh, oh juniors
Our luggage it was left at home You have a lot to learn
To blame is now Air France. Now drink your beers to bottums up
                                                    And do you please adjourn.

                                               11
We have pasta here and pasta there Chorus (slow)
Pasta is everywhere! ELSA Roma
A thousand priests where in the house Please bring us back again
It wasn’t really fair We loved our stay in Italy
We leave in tears and pain.

17 ELS way
(Seniors' contribution – Malta, ICM Autumn 1999, written and performed by Mette Damgaard, Anna Maria
Batko, Kasia Hebda, Aga Stobiecka, Leander Palleit, Oliver Kljajic, Angelo Santi and Ciccio Trimboli,
melody: Comme d’habitude/My way)

And now the ELS is here But now Assembly’s over
And so we face the Maltese weather And we get rid of all the troubles
Our friends they said it clears We stop it all and smile again
It never rains on our island We do it ELS way

We live a life that’s full But yes there were times
Of thunderstorms at every hour We should remember
But now, despite all this When we could drink more than we ordered
The sun is shining And getting pissed and start again
And throw them out and take new in...
Regrets we had a lot And more much more than this
To hold our meeting inside a tight room We did it ELSA way
We discuss facing the pool
And on top of this with Eero chairing We loved and loved again
And now we share our ”deep” experience
In spite of Andrew Brooke And now as years go by
We made our way through the agenda We find it all still so amusing
But more much more than this
We do it ELS way To think we did all that
And may we say not in a shy way
But yes there were times But more much more than this
We should remember We do it ELS way
When we could drink more than we ordered
And getting pissed and start again The end is near and we are leaving
And throw them out and take new in... Let’s add a line to this creation
And more much more than this We want to thank the organisers
We did it ELS way J.P. , Audrey and ELSA Malta
We’re having fun, we love you all
They pledged four star hotels We do it ELS way
And now we’re back inside the barracks
We dreamed about caviar Yes we do it ELS way.
And all we get is rice and pasta

                                                 12
18 We're growing old
(Melody: We are the world)

There comes a time
When you leave the ELSA world
And you're sad and feeling rather blue
There is just one answer: to join the ELS
And grow old, together with the rest.

We're growing old - we are the seniors
We know you'd love to be with us
Now - be a genius
There are lawyers dying to join the ELS
Come be smart - leave the ELSA-mess!

We're growing old - we are the seniors
We know you'd love to be with us
Now - be a genius
There are lawyers dying to join the ELS
Come be smart - leave the ELSA-mess!

19 Juniors, Juniors!
(melody: New York New York)

Start spreading the news
The seniors are cool
We sit all day under the sun - swim in the pool

You're playing the fool
You're working too hard
Why don't you change your style of life - join us, join us!
If you can't make it here
You'll make it anywhere
It's up to you - juniors, juniors!
Ba ba bababa ba ba bababa…

25 New York, New York

Start spreading’ the news I want to wake up
I’m leaving today In the city
I wanna be a part of it That never sleeps
New York, New York. To find I’m king of the hill
                                                      Head of the list
These vagabond shoes Cream of the crop
Are longing to stray At the top of the heap
And step around the heart of it
New York, New York. My little town blues
                                                      Are melting away
I wanna wake up I’ll make a brand new start of it
In the city In old New York
That doesn’t sleep
To find I’m king of the hill, top of the heap. If I can make it there
                                                      I’ll make it anywhere
My little town blues Come on, come thought
Are melting away New York, New York
I’ll make a brand new start of it
In old New York. If I can make it there

My father makes counterfeit money My brother’s a Harley street surgeon
My mother makes synthetic gin With instruments long, sharp and thin
My sister sells kisses to sailors He only makes one operation
And that’s how the money rolls in. And that’s how the money rolls in

Rolls in, rolls in Rolls in...
And that’s how the money rolls in, rolls in. rolls in,
rolls in
And that’s how the money rolls in My father has spent all his money
My mother has drunk all her gin
My uncle is a slum missionary My sister’s beauty has faded
Saving young maidens from sin And no more money rolls in
He’ll save you a blonde for a shilling
And that’s how the money rolls in Rolls in...
Rolls in...

35 The Viking Secret
(melody: Viljen i veta)

This is the secret the Viking used
To get their exuberant feeling.
reach for your mead-horn
And hold it firm

Then raise it high to the ceiling!
Oden the great! Thunderous Thor!
Balder, mid and Freja, sweet!
We toast until Valhall is reeling!

38 Fanchon

Verse 1: Verse 2:

On a fêté (on a fêté) nos retrouvailles (nos Je rigolais dans mon plastron

Tu m’a ramené à la maison T’as trois enfants à faire manger

40 Let's pretend Johnny is a "hero"
(melody: Glory, Glory, Hallelujah)

Verse English text
Johny wielkim przyjacielem naszym jest Johny is our great friend
Johny wielkim przyjacielem naszym jest Johny is our great friend
Johny wielkim przyjacielem naszym jest Johny is our great friend
Jego duch jest posrod nas. His spirit is among us.

Refrain
Glory, Glory Alleluja! Glory,Glory, Hallelujah!
Johny pije a my chuja! Johny is drinking and we aren't!
Glory, Glory Alleluja! Glory,Glory, Hallelujah!
Johny pije a my nic! Johny is drinking and we have none!

The "ceremony"
All the participants sit around the bonfire. No glasses in their hands.
There is only one bottle of vodka in use (the bigger bottle the better party, the stronger vodka the better
result).
The bottle is "walking" around the bonfire and the person who holds it in his/her hands is the hero of the
verse of the song.
All except the hero are singing the verse. The hero is standing and smiling. When all sing the refrain the
hero drinks vodka directly from a big bottle (the refrain takes ca. 15 sec. which is usually enough to drink
200-250 ml of vodka from the bottle).

41 Ergo Bibamus
(melody - Max Eberwein, 1813 - Lyrics: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1810)

Verse 1: Verse 3:

42 Bier her, Bier her!

Verse 1: Verse 3:

Verse 2:
Bier her, Bier her, oder ich fall um, juchhe!
Bier her, Bier her, oder ich fall um!
Wenn ich nicht gleich Bier bekumm
Schmeiß ich die ganze Kneipe um! Drum
Bier her, Bier her, oder ich fall um!
