The Headland Cottages
Accessibility statement
The Headland cottages are situated on the
coast looking out onto the Atlantic ocean
next to the Headland Hotel overlooking
Fistral beach and looking out onto the
Atlantic ocean
There are 40 cottages in all, 17 of those are
disabled friendly cottages and 14 of them are
all on one level.
The cottages are approximately 1.2 miles
from Newquay town center.
There is a slight hill of about 200m coming
up the headland road but the drive way has
a gradual hill downwards to the cottages
leveling off at the hotel car park
approximately 400 yards.
Pre-arrival
Newquay railway station is situated
approximatly 1.6 miles from the Cottages
10 minutes by taxi. There is an accessable
taxi service called bio-travel they will pick
you up from the station and bring you here
if pre booked the number is 01726 861108.
Or there is a bus service (the 556), this
service stops 08:26 then 46 mins past the
hour until 19:46 and then 6 minutes to the
hour until 22:54.
Should you be traveling by air we are 6.9
Town miles from the airport and the same taxi
firm also pick up from there, alternativly
Center there is a regular bus service (the 556) that
passes the air port at 25 minutes past the
hour until 19:25 and arrives at newquay
bus station 7 minutes to the hour.
There is no bus service to the headland
but the bus station is approx 1.2 miles from
the hotel and the taxi service also picks up
from there. The Newquay streets are
paved and level and well maintained, the
pavement going into town is not as wide as
many pavements but is still accessable.

All of which deliver on a regular basis
to the cottages
Key collection
You will collect your key from reception at The
Headland reception, there is a ramp to the right
of the door or it is two steps up onto the
entrance flooring this is constructed of granite
and is none slip. As you come into the entrance
there are double doors to the right 1260 mm
wide, there will be a day porter on hand to assist
if needed.
We can check you in, in your car if needed as
we will bring the paperwork to you and a porter
can assist you with your luggage.
If required a member of staff can show you
around to help you familiarise yourself with the
hotel and cottage grounds.
Parking bays are next to the hotel left and right
of the entrance and down next to the cottages
clearly marked.
The distance from the main entrance to the
reception is 10 meters, 15 meters is the furthest.
The tarmac is slightly uneven but not unsafe to
walk on and for wheelchair access and has a
slight gravely texture to it.
There is spot lighting facing the building and
lights all the way down to the village. The village The Reception desk is 1100mm high
lighting is wall mounted lighting giving adequate
illumination to the areas.Entrance to the property
The cottage entrances do not have steps to
them however there is a slight 20mm gap. There
are no handles on the doors. The width of the
door way is 800mm however that reduces
slightly because of the door thickness to 750mm.
There is an outside light at the door and in the
hall way that lights the whole area.
The entrance way is tiled flooring with a mat at
the front door that is flush with the tiles.
Some properties have stairs at the front
entrance but the passage ways are between
1000mm and 1100mm.

The hall ways in the cottages are well lit
with wall mounted lights and do not show
shadows.
The passage ways are 1000-1100mm
wide and interior door ways are 800mm
wide.
In the two storey cottages there are on
average 13 steps up to the second floor
with one hand rail, where there is the
lounge and kitchen, and in some cottages
the main bedroom and en suite bathroom.
All our disabled friendly cottages are one
level.Sitting room and lounge
In all the cottages the lounge kitchen and dining
areas are all combined there are no door way to
navigate only to the bedrooms and the
bathrooms. There is space around the table for a
wheel chair and all the furniture is moveable for
ease of access around the rooms.
The dining room table has a clearance of
650mm with upright wooden chairs. There is a
large light over the table and the kitchen is well
lit with wall lights, the floor surface is tiled in the
dining area and the lounge area. There is a rug
on a tiled floor leading into the lounge areas
which can be rolled up and stored if necessary.

THE KITCHEN
In the upstairs kitchen the flooring area is
limited, whereas the kitchens on one level are
more spacious.
The floor is tiled throughout there are no steps
into the kitchen.
The height of the work surfaces is 900mm.
The oven is a combination microwave and sits at
550 mm and the door opens outwards.
There are shelves on the wall between 1600mm
and 1900mm high.
There is a dish washer with a door that opens
downwards.
Drawers containing crockery are at a level of
800mm all the utensils and crockery are at a A view of a two level one bedroom cottage
lower level than kitchen.

There is a toaster and a 360° revolving cordless
kettle.
The sinks are all double sinks at a height of
900mm with a single mixer tap that fills both
sides.Bedrooms and sleeping areas
There is a double bedroom and a twin
bedroom in each 2 bedroom cottage
The bedrooms are carpeted with a short pile
carpet the carpets are a darker shade than
the bed spreads which make the beds and
the furniture stand out.
There is plenty of space available for carers
to stay and they are able to have their own
bathrooms.

wall and the bed and a 200 mm gap under the
bed. There is a telephone in each of the double
bedrooms and an extra phone can be put into
the twin room also if required.

Bathrooms All the bathrooms are en-suite the toilet
There is a level access into the bathrooms with height is 400mm from floor to seat with a
750mm clearance through the door. stainless flush handle on a white tiled wall.
The floor area in the bathroom is white tiles
the toilet and the hand basin are also white
these areas can be marked out if necessary.
The sink is white with no pedestal and
800mm clearance from floor to sink, chrome
taps come out of a white tiled wall they are
separate hot and cold running taps.There are no hand rails to the bath but equipment can be brought in to assist you getting in and out of the bath/shower. There are five cottages which have walk in showers. The clearance from the floor to the edge of the bath is 800mm, the taps are the same as the sinks set into the wall with a white tile back ground. The shower unit is chrome and built into the wall with adjustable temperature, the height is adjustable and the shower head can be removed. The room is well lit from ceiling lights.
Garden
The gardens to the cottages can be accessed by
double doors, there is a slight ledge of approximately
10mm the doors open on to a decked area that can be
slippery in wet weather.
There is a table and 4 chairs on the decked areas and
the grassed areas are flat. The foot paths are 900mm
wide made of granite tiles with a 10mm gap, but they
are level.
Local hospitals and Assistance Dogs
doctors All dogs are welcome of any size, type or shape.
We have dog food available and plenty of grounds to
Narowcliff Surgery walk around in. We also have dog mats, bowls and
blankets.
