MESSAGE TO MEMBERS//
I have been asked to convey to members of the VCC the sad news that one of our
number, Noel Powell, passed away this morning Tuesday 15 May. His family regret that
due to the Covid 19 lock down they are unable to have more than 10 mourners and will
be having a family only funeral.
Noel’s family are very aware that he has many friends from many walks of life and they
are keen to celebrate his life with them. They will therefore organise a memorial get
together at the Meeanee Speedway at a later date when the lifting of the lock down
makes it possible.
I would like also to pass on the thanks of Noel’s family to all those people who have kept
in touch with him over the past few years and helped him stay within the community and
to enjoy the last of his life and the friendship of so many.
The Man.
Noel will be well known to many. He has been a long time member of the VCC who was
very active within the branch and was well known throughout the vintage car movement.
In early years he restored and motored a C1928 Chrysler and in slightly later years he
campaigned his well known 1938 maroon Desoto sedan and his much loved 1938 two
tone green Desoto coupe.
He was a great supporter of the monthly Friday meal nights at the HBVCC club rooms
and was always keen to attend club meetings. He loved the VCC picnic runs and
seldom missed the cruise ship displays. He remained active within the club until very
recently.
Noel was a friendly person with a cheeky wit who was always willing pull someone’s leg.
He was always happy to help anyone who needed help. He was a foundation member
of the NZ Chrysler club and was a long time member of the Stock Car Club who some
years ago awarded him a life membership as a sign of their appreciation for all the years
he worked so tirelessly for them in so many capacities.
Noel was also well known in the building industry having worked as a brick layer most of
his working life.
Bruce McKechnie.
