The Transportation Research Board is one of seven major programs of the National Academies of
Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The mission of the Transportation Research Board is to increase the benefits that trans-
portation contributes to society by providing leadership in transportation innovation and progress through research and
information exchange, conducted within a setting that is objective, interdisciplinary, and multimodal. The Board’s varied
committees, task forces, and panels annually engage about 7,000 engineers, scientists, and other transportation researchers
and practitioners from the public and private sectors and academia, all of whom contribute their expertise in the public
interest. The program is supported by state transportation departments, federal agencies including the component
administrations of the U.S. Department of Transportation, and other organizations and individuals interested in the

Workshop 1B - Truman
How Well Do You Know MPO LRTPs?
Moderator: Bill Frawley, TTI

Developing a long-range transportation plan is both an art and a science. Although there are rules and decades of
previous plans to draw upon, regional needs, goals and resources are constantly changing and evolving. Long-range
transportation planning is not static as this workshop will show. Based off the game play of the ever-popular TV
game show, Family Feud, four teams selected from the audience will square off and test their knowledge of the
intricacies of LRTPs. The production team will engage the players and audience in a lively, spirited discussion as the
content of the Feud is revealed.

   CTPP Crash Course
   Penelope Weinberger, AASHTO
The CTPP crash course is a shortened version of our full on training, tailored to be delivered in a few hours
(or less) it's a content filled, action packed, introduction to the data and the issues and opportunities
      associated with it.

CTPP, it's not just for Breakfast Anymore
   Jim Hubbell, MARC
Did you know that CTPP data is good for many applications beyond travel model population, calibration, or
validation? Come and see the inputs to the new CTPP e-Learning applications module and be inspired to go
farther with the data you have!

What’s Coming Next in the CTPP?
   Penelope Weinberger, AASHTO
After fulfilling the Census Bureau's mandate to pare the CTPP special tab down by two thirds, what is there
going to be when the data comes out in late 2018? Come learn what got saved, what didn't get saved, and what
      we are getting that's new.

  Keynote Address
  William S. [Bill] Worley

Dr. William S. [Bill] Worley has been living with Kansas City History and Midwestern History
for over 40 years. His involvement grew out of doctoral studies at the University of Kansas that
commenced in 1976 and resulted in an M.A. in History [1979] and a Ph.D. in History [1986]. His
doctoral topic was the role of J. C. Nichols in developing Kansas City from 1905 to his death in
1950. Among his published work is J. C. Nichols and the Shaping of Kansas City, 1990; Legacy of
the Santa Fe Trail with artist Gil Rumsey, 1996; The Plaza: First and Always, 1997; and Kansas
City: Rise of a Regional Metropolis, 2002.

His involvement with Chautauqua characters dates from a 1993 Call for Scholars by the Kansas Humanities Council.
He has since performed on the Chautauqua stages of the Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado New Hampshire
and Northern Mariana Islands Humanities Councils. He performed in the pilot production [as Tom Pendergast] for
the Kansas City Public Library’s Regional Emmy-award winning Public Television series “Meet the Past.” He has
since performed as Walt Disney, James Naismith and J. C. Nichols in this series as well. His long-time involvement in
the Oklahoma Chautauqua involved topics as diverse as Route 66, the Oklahoma Centennial, and American
Entertainment.

Worley lives with his wife of 50 years in a 100+ year-old house in midtown Kansas City, Missouri, and is Professor
of History at the Blue River campus of the Metropolitan Community Colleges of Kansas City.
